Robert Pattinson Starrer Cosmopolis to Open U.S. in August

Pattinson said in Cannes there wasn’t much in the way of rehearsal before he began shooting the David Cronenberg-directed film and that he “worried” in his hotel room before it all began. Distributor Entertainment One said it will hit U.S. theaters August 17th, well after its release north of the border. Cosmopolis opens this Friday in Canada and it will head a week later to the U.K. for a June 15th roll out. Pattinson noted about making the film recently , “I’m not very scared of it going away at all. If I could somehow maintain a career in which I keep making movies like Cosmopolis , than I think it would be amazing, because not very many of them are made.” Based on the novel by Don DeLillo, Cronenberg’s latest stars the Twilight heartthrob as a 28 year-old billionaire assets manager who begins a day-long journey in his very tricked out limo as it inches its way through Manhattan. Eric Packer’s (Pattinson) objective is simple enough — he wants to get a haircut. He has everything, so what else can fulfill him? Perched on his throne in the back of his stretch limo, Packer encounters individuals as his car meanders the packed New York City streets. Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Samantha Morton, Sarah Gadon and more represent his physical, material and intellectual desires as well as demise and some — but not all — joining him one-on-one in his inner sanctum.

Robert Pattinson ‘Impressed’ Paul Giamatti In ‘Cosmopolis’

‘He’s a good judge of other actors,’ director David Cronenberg tells MTV News of RPattz co-star’s glowing review. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson and Sarah Gadon in “Cosmopolis” Photo: Caitlin Cronenberg’s Twitter Last month, when MTV News asked David Cronenberg about working with Robert Pattinson on his upcoming film “Cosmopolis,” the director put his feelings about the “Twilight” heartthrob simply: “He’s sensational.” Cronenberg said that “Twilight” fans would see Pattinson in a way they aren’t used to, since the role shares more in common with the actor’s lesser-known films like “Little Ashes” and “Remember Me.” When the director walked the red carpet last week at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in support of his film “A Dangerous Method,” he stopped to speak again with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz, revealing which scenes in particular were the most challenging for Pattinson. “Probably the last couple of days was where there was just a long, long, maybe 15-minute scene with Paul Giamatti , just the two of them in a couple of rooms,” Cronenberg said. In “Cosmopolis,” Pattinson plays Eric Packer, a young millionaire who just wants to get his hair cut. Things go awry when his limo gets stuck in traffic and a stalker, played by Giamatti, causes even more trouble. Cronenberg said that one of the biggest testaments to Pattinson’s skill as an actor was the effect he had on his Academy Award-nominated co-star. “They were both brilliant, and Paul was really impressed,” he said. “If Paul’s impressed, he’s a good judge of other actors, and he said so publicly.” The director is simultaneously promoting “A Dangerous Method” and putting the finishing touches on “Cosmopolis.” Cronenberg said that juggling both has never been an issue: “I’ve edited ‘Cosmopolis,’ and I’m about to go to Paris next week to do the sound mix of it, but I can switch over. It’s like having two kids. When one kid comes through the door, you’re there for that kid.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Cosmopolis.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Robert Pattinson Has ‘An Edge’ In ‘Cosmopolis’

‘He did some really excellent work that I think he should be very proud of,’ co-star Kevin Durand tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson and Sarah Gadon in “Cosmopolis” Photo: Caitlin Cronenberg’s Twitter Although most of Robert Pattinson’s fans are totally focused on November 18 — a.k.a. the release date for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” — the heartthrob has another equally buzzworthy film headed into theaters in 2012: the dark, postmodern drama “Cosmopolis.” The film, adapted by screenwriter and director David Cronenberg from Don DeLillo’s novel, revolves around a day in the life of hotheaded asset manager Eric Packer (Pattinson) with most of the plot’s action taking place in a limo. MTV News caught up with “Cosmopolis” co-star Kevin Durand at the premiere of “Real Steel” over the weekend, and he had nothing but rave reviews for both the film and its leading man. “It’s awesome. We’re just in postproduction right now. It’s incredibly exciting,” Durand said. “Robert is a very gracious, kind fella, and we had a great time [filming]. We had a really great time.” When asked what new sides of Pattinson’s acting abilities we’ll see in the film, Durand said we’ll see an edgier, more adult version of the “Twilight” star. “He’s got an edge to him in this film,” Durand said. “He did some really excellent work that I think he should be very proud of.” The “Real Steel” and “I Am Number Four” actor went on to say that given the subject matter and action in the plot, the film will have a more adult rating and that fans should be very excited to see it. “[It takes place] in present day, but it’s its own time and place,” he explained. “Mr. Cronenberg has such an amazing voice. I myself am just as excited, probably more excited, than anyone else to see it, just to see what he’s done with it.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Cosmopolis.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
