That’s really the central question of the very special game of “F–k, Marry, Kill” that MTV News’ Josh Horowitz played with the stars of “Transformers: Age of Extinction” in a new “After Hours.” The stars have to pick from Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and baddie Galvatron. Pretty much everybody ended up… Read more

‘Transformers 4’ Will Feature ‘New Cast,’ Space Setting

Director Michael Bay speaks out on his plans for his fourth and final round with the robots in disguise. By Josh Wigler “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” Photo: When “Transformers” revs up for its fourth big-screen adventure, you’ll see plenty of familiar faces along for the ride: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee. … But there won’t be a single human character from the old guard. Unless, of course, you count director Michael Bay. “It’s a new cast,” the director matter-of-factly told the Los Angeles Times about his plans for “Transformers 4,” which will not feature Shia LaBeouf’s Sam Witwicky at all. “We’re moving on to something different.” “It’s not a reboot, that’s maybe the wrong word,” Bay added. “I don’t want to say reboot because then people will think we’re doing a Spider-Man and starting from the beginning. We’re not. We’re taking the story that you’ve seen &8212; the story we’ve told in three movies already &8212; and we’re taking it in a new direction. But we’re leaving those three as the history. It all still counts. I met with the writer before I went off to do ‘Pain and Gain’ and we talked about a bunch of ideas. We let that simmer for a bit. He’s been thinking about stuff and now we’re getting back together next week to see what we’ve got and to see if it gels.” One of the new ideas that Bay has cooked up: the possibility of bringing the Autobots and Decepticons to outer space. “I think so, yeah, a little,” he said when asked if the fourth film would go off-planet. “That feels like the way to go, doesn’t it? I want to go a little off, but I don’t want to go too sci-fi. I still want to keep it grounded. That’s what works in these movies, that’s what makes it accessible.” Bay said that “Transformers 4,” which will have a smaller budget than its predecessors by “about $30 million,” will be his final ride with Prime and pals. He’s said as much in the past, of course — but this time, Bay insists that he means business. “Here’s the thing, it’s tough to find someone who’s done these kind of movies and to have the complication of creating the new stuff that needs to be in this movie — not just characters but a new type of action, I hope — and that’s a lot for someone new to bite off,” said the director. “And so after this one I will leave it in the best hands possible. That’s the plan.” Tell us what you think of Bay’s “Transformers” plans in the comments below! Michael Bay To Direct ‘Transformers 4,’ Producer Confirms

The fourth film, which will be released in summer of 2014, will be ‘an evolution,’ Lorenzo di Bonaventura tells MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan Optimus Prime in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” Photo: Paramount Since late last year, rumors began firing off about a potential “Transformers” sequel or sequels, and they ran the gamut. Paramount might film two sequels back to back. Michael Bay might return for both. Jason Statham may be the new star. Rumors came and went, but perhaps the biggest question lingered: Will Bay return to direct ? The master of the big-budget explosion, Bay’s highly stylized eye for action lent the trilogy its signature look and breakneck pace. With potential sequels looming, no word had been given on whether Bay would return for any follow-ups. But at Toy Fair 2012, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed to MTV News that Bay would, indeed, return for a fourth “Transformers” film. “Michael’s going to direct, and it’ll be in the summer of 2014. We’ll be releasing then,” di Bonaventura said. Di Bonaventura said that the director is eager to get back to the franchise he started. “He’s a cool customer. He’s excited,” he said. “I think the challenge there is that we are really going to do a reboot and what that’s going to be, we don’t even know yet.” Bay will reportedly film the next “Transformers” after making “Pain and Gain,” which has Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg circling major roles. As for the Jason Statham rumors, di Bonaventura said that it is way too early in the process to decide something like casting. “No, it’s so silly. We have to get a story first,” he said. “You can’t pick characters if you don’t have a story.” With the series heading in the direction of a reboot, many new questions form about which characters and storylines will return. Di Bonaventura insisted that the fourth film will not be a hard reboot, but an “evolution.” “Again, it’s a hybrid because it’s a funny thing. I’m not involved with ‘Spider-Man,’ but what I perceive ‘Spider-Man’ to be is just a redoing of the whole thing. It’s not. It’s an evolution. There’s still continuity that’s going on, yet there will be a lot of new cast,” he said. “Whether there’s anybody from the first cast, we don’t even know yet. The trust is it’s going to be a whole new story. The characters that would certainly come along are Optimus and Bumblebee, I’m sure.” Are you excited for a “Transformers 4”? Leave your comment below! ‘Transformers: Dark Of The Moon’: Hunting For Easter Eggs

Hidden treasures in the threequel include new ‘bots and a not-so-new heroine. By Kara Warner Shia LaBeouf in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” Photo: Jaimie Trueblood As is to be expected with Michael Bay movies, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” is jam-packed with a lot more than his patented brand of eye-popping action sequences. The movie is two hours and thirty-seven minutes, after all, so even with all the Autobot vs. Decepticon fighting action, there is plenty of room for an actual plot and, more importantly, a ton of fun Easter eggs for the most perceptive fans out there. In addition to all the “Star Trek” nods , Bay and company have cleverly inserted five “Transformers”-specific Easter eggs in the film. Thanks to the eagle eye of Splash Page editor Rick Marshall, along with his extensive “Transformers” knowledge, MTV News is proud to provide you with a few key things to look out for while watching “Dark of the Moon.” Not-So-New Girl Carly Played by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, the character of Carly is new to Bay’s “Transformers” but has a meaty role as one of the humans in the “Transformers” cartoons. Carly is the wife of Spike Witwicky in the original animated series, the inspiration for Shia LaBeouf’s character Sam Witwicky. The Ark of the Moon The opening of “Dark of the Moon” is all about a mysterious ship that crash lands on the moon. Optimus Prime calls that ship “the Ark,” which is the name of the spaceship that first brought Optimus and the rest of the Transformers to Earth in the original cartoon. Spock’s Speaking-Part Past We mentioned the Nimoy connection in our “Trek” Easter eggs article, but his work is such a nerdy thrill, it gets another mention here. In “Dark of the Moon,” Nimoy is the voice of Sentinel Prime, which marks the second time he has lent his voice to a robot in the series. In the 1986 classic “Transformers: The Animated Movie,” Nimoy voiced Galvatron, Megatron’s equally mischievous successor. Bridges in Space We won’t go into details about how a space bridge may or may not be mentioned and/or used in “Dark of the Moon,” but throughout Transformers history onscreen and in comics, the space bridge allowed for travel between Earth and Cybertron. Old New Faces “Dark of the Moon” introduces us to a slew of new Autobots and Decepticons, although the die-hard “Transformers” fans out there will recognize the following from the cartoons. New-to-the-movie Autobots include: Wheeljack (has a strong Albert Einstein-like resemblance), Mirage (a red sports car) and Optimus Prime’s fancy silver trailer. Decepticon debuts include: fan-favorite master of destruction Shockwave and bird-like Lazerbeak, who transforms into a variety of objects, save for the excellent cassette-tape shape of his cartoon counterpart.
