Source: Paul R. Giunta / Getty Colin Kaepernick celebrated his birthday by giving back to those in need. On Sunday (Nov. 3) the former NFL quarterback was spotted in Oakland helping to feed and provide supplies for the countless homeless residents lining Tent City in partnership with his foundation, Know Your Rights Camp . Kaepernick and his girlfriend, Nessa , were handing out backpacks that were filled with snacks, socks, air quality masks, shampoo and other crucial resources. In addition to personal hygiene supplies, Colin Kaepernick also made sure that everyone had a hot meal by commissioning a food truck to feed everyone.   View this post on Instagram Today was beautiful #RP @alpastorpapi415: Today we joined @yourrightscamp and @kaepernick7 in Oakland and feed a few folks. MODEL MONDAY: Youtuber Turned Model Chizi Duru Wants To Advocate For Pay Transparency Amongst Influencers

See the article here:

Source: Wendy Ngala / Wendy Ngala Name: Chizi Duru IG: @ChiziDuru      Agency: Self-Represented Claim to Fame: Duru started a huge YouTube channel after her dad encouraged her to cut off her hair and go natural as a pre-teen.  Black women are chronically underpaid . Studies show this is a fact across a number of industries but in creative fields it is expounded on by an intentional lack of transparency. YouTube star turned professional model Chizi Duru is committed to changing this in creative fields. “There’s kind of been this culture of keeping quiet about the things that you’re doing, how much you’re making, what deals you’re making, what does your deal entail,” said Duru in an exclusive interview with Hello Beautiful .  View this post on Instagram What's one thing you've learned to love about yourself? For me, it was my hair texture. Yep. I remember getting so upset at my hair because it wouldn't curl “the right way” and it was so. hard. to. comb. But now I love it! It all came down to being mindful of my thoughts towards my hair and learning what worked for it. Now she's my crown, a game-changer, and I'll forever be thankful for my 4C hair Comment below, let's talk! A post shared by CHIZI DURU (@chiziduru) on Sep 20, 2017 at 5:09pm PDT Appearing in campaigns for major brands like Burlington Coat Factory and Clarks she has been able to see the full extent of a company’s resources from a more empowered perspective. The infiltration of influencers into spaces traditional models have dominated has been met with some tension but Duru feels Youtubers can actually be assets to what she refers to as, “traditional models.” Cultivating a personal brand can fortify a model against rapidly shifting industry trends or missteps made by representatives . Many of the top models in the industry have cultivated a more personable approach to the faces on the billboards. “You can always use that to negotiate a deal for an even higher deal,” said Duru.  View this post on Instagram The goal is to continue to foster my self expression & individuality Rocking this outfit from @modcloth #ModClothSquad #SayItLouder @liketoknow.it #liketkit http://liketk.it/2wu6e A post shared by CHIZI DURU (@chiziduru) on Jul 10, 2018 at 2:20pm PDT “I definitely think there’s a bridge that’s being made,” she added. She wants her voice to be among those crossing that bridge.  “What I love about our generation and even the generation coming up after us is we’re more open and we’re like, ‘No we don’t have to keep quiet about things!’ I’m going to tell you how much I make so that you don’t ever get into a position where you’re undercharging or underselling yourself or you’re getting lowballed.” View this post on Instagram When you see your future husband walk by & silently thank God your braidout fully dried #happyhumpday #4cnaturalhair #naturalhair : @nvmwendy A post shared by CHIZI DURU (@chiziduru) on Sep 6, 2017 at 11:15am PDT She created an offline space to further conversations about knowing your worth through the development of the Afro Brunch series. “You need a community and that’s something that I didn’t have. There’s no books on it. Unless you talk to someone and ask them hey how much did you charge for this you’re probably not going to find that easily on the internet right now.”  She hopes her modeling work will allow her to use her face and 4C hair to add diversity to visual representation in mainstream media. She acknowledges that her level of influence allows her insulated from things other models experience. She uses that privilege to advocate for inclusion and consideration of women with “with darker skin and kinky hair,” when she is in the room with brands often pushing back on their creative visions. “Whenever you are in the room with just people you’re bound to connect in some way.”  Duru desires for her image in store ads and commercials to not only impact little Black girls but people passing by who might not see them as the standard for what is beautiful. “I just I think it opens up their minds as well to see that beauty doesn’t just look one way,” she said.   View this post on Instagram Everyone needs a break from their natural hair and I like to protect mine by wearing wigs. You always see the woman that’s in the forefront is the lighter woman and it’s kind of subconsciously tells you like ‘Well I’m dark skinned, I’m not always going to be number one kind of thing.’ And I think just being able to be representation for that little girl that has darker skin or has kinky hair and them being able to see me on tv for a national commercial with Burlington they’re going to go ‘Wow! So this is possible for me,’ and that completely changes someone’s mindset and what they think is possible for them, which is everything because that can change someone’s trajectory in their life in general.”  Tyra Banks inspired Duru to speak up for herself on and off set. Arguably one of the model influencer hybrids she addressed topics like fat shaming on her talk show the way Duru does on her YouTube channel. “She started gaining weight and she started gaining backlash for that and I just remember really connecting to her story, like I’m gaining weight too I’m not a figure eight.”  She started using the phrase “You cannot talk to me anyhow,” to formalize her rejection of other people’s labels and refusals to meet her standards. “Even if I’m not a two or a six or a zero you still can’t talk to me anyhow. It’s something that I said because it doesn’t matter how what size I am how big or how small or what I look like you still cant talk to me anyhow.”  DON’T MISS:  MODEL MONDAY: Nyakim Gatwech Is A Model With A Message For Black Girls MODEL MONDAY: Shawana Vickers Chooses Confidence Over Clout Chasing MODEL MONDAY: Erica Campbell’s Modeling Career Began After She Was Diagnosed With Stage 4 Cancer [ione_media_gallery src=”https://hellobeautiful.com” id=”3062746″ overlay=”true”]

A Lil’ Positivity: Colin Kaepernick Fed The Homeless In Oakland For His 32nd Birthday

Source: colin Kaepernick / Getty Colin Kaepernick Spent His Birthday Giving Back To Oakland It seems like Colin Kaepernick is always thinking about how he can help the people around him, and he proves his selflessness time and time again. The former NFL quarterback decided to spend his 32nd birthday feeding the homeless in Oakland, California. According to reports from TMZ, Kaepernick brought out a food truck for those living in Tent City, a large homeless encampment in Oakland. While there, he reportedly paid for every person there who wanted a meal. From the photos of the truck, it looks like some Al Pastor was on the menu. In partnership with Know Your Rights Camp, Kaepernick was walking around handing out backpacks that filled with snacks, socks, air quality masks, shampoo and other crucial resources, according to the outlet. Unsurprisingly, this isn’t the first time Colin Kaepernick has used his birthday to give back to the community. In 2016, he hosted his first Know Your Rights Camp event, where he brought dozens of kids together to teach them about their rights and to learn about social injustice. Leah Messer CAUGHT Photoshopping Latest Swimsuit Photo?!

Leah Messer takes a lot of vacations these days. Often — but not always — in the company of her Teen Mom 2 bestie, Kailyn Lowry, Leah has been hitting some of the finest beaches in North and Central America. It's hard to think of a downside in that lifestyle, but when you're famous and you post a lot of swimsuit photos, the trolls are sure to crawl out from under their bridges and try to tear you down. Small price to pay for the way Leah's been living, but still — this one had to hurt. Take a look: 1. Caught ‘Shopping? Leah Messer has been accused of photoshopping her latest swimsuit photo. And the people “calling her out” have been brutal in their commentary. 2. Not the Leah We Know Leah is generally regarded as one of the least-vain stars in the Teen Mom universe, and as far as we know, she’s never been caught retouching her photos before. 3. Keeping the Streak Alive And as far as we can tell, she hasn’t been caught retouching her photos this time, either. 4. The Snowball Effect Yes, Leah was “called out” by one hater and dozens of others followed suit — but we’re really not seeing any evidence of foul play here. 5. Haters Gonna Hate “God the photoshopping is horrible! Why even bother. I’m sure tons of people saw you in person on the trip,” wrote one such fiend. 6. What a Messer As far as we can tell, some people don’t understand how water can create a visual distortion effect. That’s really all we can come up with for why so many are convinced this pic has been altered. View Slideshow

Raiven Adams Shares the Hardest Part of Being Pregnant

Raiven Adams is pregnant with Bear Brown’s baby and has been flaunting her baby bump for fans to admire. Not everything has been easy. Being pregnant and being famous are hard enough without suddenly doing both at once. Before leaving Instagram for a while to avoid hateful trolls, Raiven opened up about the hardest part of her pregnancy. Raiven Adams is about 12 weeks pregnant with Bear Brown’s child. On social media, she opened up about the most difficult thing about her pregnancy. “I’m probably very extra about it,” she admitted. Raiven continued: “But I research everything I eat to make sure it’s safe.” “It’s overwhelming sometimes,” she acknowledged. That’s very smart. Some foods that seem harmless or even healthy can be hamrful while pregnant (or breastfeeding). Raiven also spoke about the difficulties in general of her pregnancy so far. “Right now it’s hard because I’m always sick,” she revealed. “But,” she was sure to emphasize. “I am blessed to have a baby on the way.” That’s great! Unfortunately, her pregnancy is not the only source of trouble in her life. As we mentioned, some “fans” of Alaskan Bush People and of Bear Brown in particular have been dogpiling on Raiven. They didn’t like that she an Bear were quietly dating for six months before going public. It looks like some envied her. They didn’t like that she was pansexual — which is straight-up bigotry. They didn’t like when they got engaged, when they broke up, when they found out that they were expecting, or when they got back together. And they certainly didn’t like that those things happened in that order. Last time, when the barrage of hate and trolls became too much, Raiven ended things with Bear, resolving to remain friends. This time, she knew that she didn’t want to let these same monsters get to her again. Instead, she made the wise choice of simply stepping back from social media — from Instagram, specifically. It’s a shame, but it’s the right move. Trolls have no power to upset her in her condition if she doesn’t see the vitriol tha they hurl in her direction. Raiven is not the only one to take a huge step back from Instagram. This week, Bear Brown took to the same social media site to share an announcement of his own. “Gonna be off Instagram for a little while!” he revealed. Thank you everybody!” Bear expressed. “God bless!” Even when haters are nipping at his heels, the self-described King of Extreme remains so friendly, open, and chill. Contrary to what weird conspiracy theorists masquerading as fans might say, Raiven was not interested in fame. She’s made that clear. She and Bear were friends first, only later becoming a couple. And no, she did not become pregnant in order to “trap” him. She only discovered that she was pregnant after they had broken up. Alaskan Bush People fans should be overjoyed that the Brown family is getting yet another grandchild. Most fans are happy about it, of course. But it takes only a few loud negative voices to ruin a good time. We hope that they both return to Instagram when they’re feeling better about it. A Lil Positivity: Ludacris Returns To Georgia State As New “Artist In Residence” For The Fall Semester

Source: Cookerly PR/Mercedes Benz / Ludacris Ludacris Returns To Georgia State As New “Artist In Residence” For The Fall Semester There’s almost nothing as sweet as seeing a celebrity who came from nothing return back to the place that made them who they are today. Nothing changes the course of a young mind more than hearing advice and stories of struggle from the people they look up to that came from their hometown. Such is the case with Ludacris , whose story is inspiring to everyone in Georgia. He was told he couldn’t do radio, so he did that and dominated. He was told a successful career in rap happens for very few, so he conquered the dream of becoming a successful rapper. More recently, he’s been securing the acting bag, becoming a staple in the Fast & The Furious franchise. With all that in mind, it’s only right he returns home to inspire the youth at his former college. Hey @ludacris , time to update your PantherCard! We’re excited to welcome Chris Bridges back to campus this fall as an artist-in-residence in @cmii_gsu . That’s #TheStateWay ! https://t.co/mrMNXETPAE pic.twitter.com/ODj5tnuTz5 — Georgia State University (@GeorgiaStateU) October 15, 2019 Chris Bridges, aka Ludacris, will be returning to Georgia State University as the campus’ “Artist In Residence” this fall. Luda will mentor students and work with professors at the Creative Media Industries on campus for various initiatives. Institute Executive Director Brennen Dicker says that Ludacris was the perfect choice for this role due to his vast industry knowledge. Not only has the rapper been successful in his own right, but he also crafted and helped discover other artists such as 2 Chainz and Chingy, who both released successful albums and singles while under his guidance, regardless of how those situations may have ended. This program is unique because even though it’s at a college, it still prepares students for untraditional jobs in entertainment such as managers in music, video game entrepreneurship, and film opportunities. Kids all across the country have been begging for more guidance from the people in life who did it their way, and it’s awesome to see Georgia State hear their requests and cater to it! Amy Roloff Shares Family Throwback Photo, Sends Message to Late Mom

Amy Roloff is feeling blessed at the moment. She’s also feeling sad and sentimental and, above all, reflective. This is what happens when a loved one passes away. Late last month, the Little People, Big World star lost her mother , Patricia. The 86-year old died after having been sick for several months, with Amy saying little about the tragedy when it first took place — but then mourning her openly on Instagram a few days later. And now the TLC personality is once again taking to social media in order to talk about her mother. “Every time I look at this photo I’m reminded how blessed I am,” wrote the mother of four to open a lengthy caption to the photo above, adding: “I have 4 amazing wonderful kids, 3 wonderful daughter-in-laws, one fantastic son-in-law, 2 precious grand kids (2 more on the way now).” (Indeed, Tori Roloff is due to give birth right around Thanksgiving and Tori Roloff is due to give birth in early January.) Amy then went on to explain the circumstances behind the family throwback photo shared at the outset of this article. “I thank the Lord everyday for them,” she wrote, continuing as follows: “And how the Lord put it on my heart last year to encourage my kids, if they could, to take a trip to Michigan with me to see my Mom and Dad , their grandparents, and my family, last summer (2018). “My Dad was turning 90 and my Mom 86. I just knew it was the right time, more than ever before, for them to go and visit them.” Amy, who got engaged just before her mother died , proceeded to give thanks that her extended family was able to spend this time with her parents, writing: “My Mom and Dad got to see my kids, their grandchildren again and to meet their great grand children (Jackson and Ember). My Mom hoped she would get to see her great grandchildren one day and I’m so happy she did!” Amy did mention a few months ago that her mother was ill, but she never specified exactly what was going on. She does so here, however: “Then 9 months later, earlier this year, my mom heart surgery. She wasn’t the same physically, ever since. My Mom passed on Sept 24th.” Just so very sad overall. But at least Amy was able to spend special time with Patricia before she passed away. “I’m going back home, to Michigan, to say good-bye and be with my Dad and my family. But the moments and memories I have of her will be with me for a life time,” continued Amy, updating followers on her status and her whereabouts and adding: “Life is filled with tons of moments – many we may let slip by. Be sure to let what doesn’t really matter slip by more than the many little moments that do/should matter. “Time is but a moment. Make the best of those moments as you can. For you can’t get them back.” Moving many fans to tears, Amy concluded with a message to Patricia. This is what she wrote: Mom I’m going to miss you. I do miss you already. You’re not hurting anymore and You’re with the Lord now and for that I’m grateful. God is good always. Love you Mom . Amy also used the hashtags  #lovemymomforever , #familyalways and #faith . Here’s What We Learned From Cyntoia Brown-Long’s First Post Prison Interview

Source: Wang Lunyi / EyeEm / Getty Cyntoia Brown-Long is finally living her life as a free woman after spending 15 years behind bars for the murder of 43-year old, Nashville real estate agent, Johnny Allen , who reportedly sex-trafficked the then 16-year old. Brown’s story got international media attention after stars like Kim Kardashian and Rihanna took to social media to support her release. View this post on Instagram did we somehow change the definition of #JUSTICE along the way?? cause….. She takes full responsibility for the murder of Johnny Allen: “He is a victim, you know? He was, he was, his family’s a victim. You know, his friends, the people that knew him, the people that loved him. Like, they had someone snatched away from them. And I did that.” She wants people to see a different side of her: “I want them to see that I’m so much more than the worst thing that I’ve done. You know, I’m so much more than that moment.” She’s changed: “I know there are people looking at me saying ‘okay, well what’s this girl gonna do? And is she really changed? So I feel like it’s an honor to actually be a picture of what rehabilitation looks like. Of what it looks like when we give people a second chance.”

“Girl, You’re Gangster”: Rihanna Defends The ‘Vogue’ Writer Who Got Major Backlash For Winging Their Interview

Source: James Devaney / Getty Rihanna Stands Behind The Writer Who Interviewed Her For Vogue Rihanna is a woman of the people, so she’s not here for all of the slander Abby Aguirre–the writer behind her latest Vogue cover story–is facing. After the profile was published, the reporter was bombarded with backlash over her confession that she had gone into the interview without any questions prepared. Here’s the excerpt from the story that had everyone up in arms: ‘Normally I bring a list of questions, but I didn’t have time to prepare one, which I make a split-second decision to confess. “I’m winging it, so you have to help me,” I say nervously. Rihanna flashes a grin that is somehow both reassuring and mischievous. “Aren’t we all?” she says.’ When reading this sentence out of context, it’s easy to see why people are upset: How could you NOT be prepared for an interview with Rihanna? And better yet, why would you ADMIT that to her…and then, on top of it, publish that admission within the article?! Here’s what Aguirre had to say when the backlash initially started pouring in: GUYS. I was driving to Trader Joe's in sweatpants when I got the call and literally had to flip a bitch. I research my subjects to death. *Especially* Rihanna. I appreciate the anger behind the reaction. But this is a misunderstanding, for which I take full responsibility. — Abby Aguirre (@abby_aguirre) October 9, 2019 I had literally no notice. The point was to convey how nerve-wracking this was, given my deep, bordering-on-psychotic reverence for Rihanna. — Abby Aguirre (@abby_aguirre) October 9, 2019 There are still a lot of folks who aren’t okay with her explanation, for a lot of reasons, but as for Rihanna, she came to the writer’s defense once she was alerted of the goings on. “Wait, wait, what?” Rih told WWD   when asked about the criticism of Aguirre’s interview. “No, no, no, no. That’s gangster. For you to get a call the day before being like, ‘Hey, Rihanna’s in L.A., you wanna do this?’ And show up on the dime and write an incredible article that I’m really proud of and enjoyed reading? She’s badass for that.” The mogul went on to say, “If you don’t have to prepare, girl, you’re gangster.”

Jenni Farley: Siding With Jen Harley Over Ronnie Magro?

Recent episodes of Jersey Shore have been without Mike Sorrentino or Snooki, two of the series’ MVPs from day one. They had pretty solid reasons for not partying in Vegas with the rest of the crew (Snooki was pregnant; Sorrentino was in prison ), but their absences have been keenly felt at times, as the saga of Vinny’s Chippendale’s adventure has felt a bit stale at times. Fortunately, Ronnie Magro and Jenni Farley have really stepped up to the plate in recent weeks by allowing their lives to fall apart both on and off camera. Okay, in JWoww’s case that statement is a bit of an exaggeration. Sure, Jenni’s boyfriend groped Angelina Pivarnick  in last night’s episode, and he generally seems like a giant douche bag, but on some level, she must have known 24 was nothing more than a rebound fling. When you’re talking Ronnie, however, it’s almost impossible to overstate how much this dude has effed up in recent weeks. In case you somehow haven’t heard, Magro was tased and arrested earlier this week following a confrontation with Jen Harley, the mother of his 1-year-old daughter. Magro stands accused of assaulting Harley and threatening her with a knife. But disappointingly, several of his Shore castmates remain vehemently Team Ronnie. Take Snooki, for example, who decided to openly victim-shame Harley during an interview with Mike on her podcast this week. Nicole attacked Jen for wearing clothing that doesn’t properly conceal her bruises in order to make a “big thing” out of the attack. Clearly, that’s some horrendous BS, and we hope others will join us in calling on Polizzi to apologize. Other Shore cast members have kept silent with regard to the attack, including Farley, who developed a friendship with Harley in recent months. In fact, she controversially reached out to Jen during the gang’s recent Vegas adventure. (Though to be fair, she was probably encouraged to do so by the show’s producers, as a whole lot of nothing was going on in Sin City.) Last week, Us Weekly caught up with Ron and asked him about the complex dynamic between the Jens and himself. Magro theorized that JWoww was so fixated on him because she had “a bunch of stuff that she just didn’t want to focus on,” meaning her divorce from Roger Mathews . “You get to a place in your life where you can’t control what other people do. It’s about how you react,” Ronnie told the tabloid. “So, at that point in my life, I knew that Jenny was going through s–t. When you’re going through stuff, you’re going to deflect,” he added. “You’re going to try to push everything away from you as much as you can. She was going through a divorce, she’s got a new boyfriend, her son,” he went on. “So what’s the best thing to do? Deflect — and I’ve done it. We’ve all done it! But you see it, you know, and it’s like, it is what it is.” Asked about the future of his friendship with Farley, Ronnie continued: “If you’ve seen me and Jenni throughout the years, me and her go at it. We’re brother and sister! But we love each other. “We just want the best for each other at the end of the day. It’s not ‘cause we want to be spiteful. We really do just want the best.” Yep, sounds like the folks at Us received a dose of the new and improved sober Ron. The only problem is, just hours later, he was allegedly doing coke and assaulting his girlfriend. We’re thinking Farley was right to side with Harley from the start, and we hope she’s continued to support her new similarly-named friend. View Slideshow: Ronnie Magro: I’m Innocent, Bro!
