Twitter Debates Cleopatra’s Ancestry As Lady Gaga & Angelina Jolie Reportedly Compete To Play The Queen

Source: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin / Getty After it was announced that Lady Gaga and Angelina Jolie have reportedly been competing for the role of Cleopatra in the Egyptian Queen’s upcoming biopic, all hell broke loose on the innanets. The question plaguing folks’ minds?…Why isn’t Cleopatra being played by a woman with some melanin? After all, there is some evidence pointing to the fact that she could have been biracial . Once the debate began, Twitter’s best Egyptologists broke out their history books, with some claiming that it was more likely Cleopatra was of fully Grecian decent, while others brought out evidence pointing to the fact that Cleopatra’s mom was African. “It has been suggested–although generally not by credible scholarly sources–that Cleopatra was racially black African. To be blunt, there is absolutely no evidence for this, yet it is one of those issues that seems to take on a life of its own despite all indication to the contrary,” @elmalquerer tweeted. “The best evidence is that she was three-quarters Macedonian Greek and one-quarter Egyptian. There is no room for anything else, certainly not for any black African blood.” Source: John Rainford/WENN / WENN Another Twitter scholar tweeted some knowledge about a skeleton believed to be Cleopatra’s sister, bringing up the argument that it’s quite possible the Queen had some African blood. “In 2009, a team of archaeologists found the remains of a woman they believed to be Princess Arsinoe, Cleopatra’s sister. The researchers believe Arsinoe’s remains, found in Ephesus, Turkey, indicate that her mother (also likely Cleopatra’s) was African,” @a mnimal_lb tweeted.  “’That Arsinoe had an African mother is a real sensation which leads to a new insight on Cleopatra ’s family and the relationship of the sisters Cleopatra and Arsinoe ,’ Hilke Thuer of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, who made the discovery, said at the time.” With all the possibilities that she was mixed with this or that, Cleopatra probably didn’t look like Gaga or Angelina Jolie…and someone with some color could be more historically accurate. See what else people had to say on the viral topic below and let us know if you’re down for a new Cleopatra biopic. “saw some tweets talking about a Cleopatra movie (I assume Cleopatra VII) and if you’re worried about accuracy she should probably be played by an Eastern Mediterranean performer, no?” – @kylegodbey “If you ever saw Angelina Jolie play Olympias in the movie Alexander then you’ll know why she’d be the perfect choice to play Cleopatra . And that’s that on that.” – @VCHEUBA “Can we just not make another adaption of cleopatra” – @AmburgerBear

They’re With Her: Jay And Bey Surprise Fans At Cleveland Rally For Hillary Clinton

Jay And Bey Surprise Fans At Cleveland Rally For Hillary Clinton The Carters surprised fans at Hillary Clinton’s Cleveland “Stronger Together” voting rally tonight, with Bey popping out to perform ‘Formation’ and ‘Freedom’ and lend her official support to the Democratic nominee. Bey even shared a few words with the crowd about how monumental Hillary’s run in office would be for the nation: “There was a time when a woman’s opinion did not matter… less than 100 years ago women did not have the right to vote, look how far we’ve come to having no voice to being on the brink of history by electing the first woman president. But we have to vote. The world looks to us as a progressive country that needs change. I want my daughter to grow up seeing a woman lead our country and know that her possibilities are limitless.” Nice. Are you with her too? Divergent Photo Shows a Different Take On 50 Shades of Gray

Perhaps I wasn’t hip to the various colors available in the gray spectrum before, but after checking out this  Divergent photo , my eyes have been opened to the possibilities.  If you’ve read Veronica Roth’s book, then you know that this photo is likely from the earliest parts in the film. Perhaps the choosing ceremony? Not sure when else there would be so much Abnegation gray in one place. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort play the brother and sister duo, Beatrice and Caleb Prior in the film. We don’t have too much longer to wait for the latest young adult dystopian novel adaptation as  Divergent opens in theaters on March 21st of next year.

Tim Allen Addresses Paula Deen Controversy, Says "N-Word" is Worse Than N–ger

Tim Allen, of all people, is weighing in on the Paula Deen scandal, and raising eyebrows himself with some controversial comments about racism. In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times , Allen said he believes “politically correct” phrases to be more egregious than the actual slur at times. “[The phrase] ‘the N-word’ is worse to me than n–ger,” he said. Allen, 60, said the toned-down phrase’s very existence runs counter to how he thinks people should tackle such an emotionally charged topic. “You want to take the power away from that word so that no one is offended by it,” the comedian said of the racial slur that Deen admitted using . “If I have no intent, if I show no intent, if I clearly am not a racist,” he continued, “then how can ‘n–ger’ be bad coming out of my mouth?” “I’ve had this argument on stage a million times. I do a movie with Martin Lawrence, and pretty soon they’re referring to me, ‘Hey, my n—-r’s up.'” “So I’m the n—er if I’m around you guys but seven feet away, if I said n—er, it’s not right. It’s very confusing to the European mind how that works.” Somewhere, Rae Dawn Chong is just happy the heat is off her now. Allen kept at it when it comes to his views on the topic, recounting: “Especially if I’ve either grown up or evolved or whatever, it literally was growing up in Colorado, with Hispanics and Anglos, that’s all I remember.” “So when Paula Deen [admits her language], they go after her.” “Now we’ve gone backwards in the world.” It’s an ongoing debate that, Allen believes, sends conflicting messages. “So this debate rages in the public, but when it gets to the comedy world, we’re not even allowed to say it, and I gotta refer to it as the N-word, F-word, B-word.” “It gets all the way down the line. We’re running backwards .” In a statement to E! News, Allen addressed the obligatory, subsequent furor surrounding his interview, but did not apologize, saying simply: “If I offended anyone it wasn’t my intention.” Since Deen admitted using the term in a legal deposition, the celebrity chef has been fired by Food Network and seen her once-dominant empire battered. She’s maintained a significant bastion of support however, as many people argue that she’s being unfairly singled out or exploited by an opportunist. As for Tim Allen’s comments on the subject, tell us what you think in the comments below: Is he out of line? Or right on the nose, even if it’s taboo?

The Canyons Reviews: Random Lindsay Lohan Project Worse Than We Thought?

Ever since we first heard of The Canyons , we all knew this would be a special film. And by special, I mean awful. Lindsay Lohan ‘s return to the big screen with this Kickstarter project hasn’t been met with applause and accolades as perhaps Lohan had hoped. In fact, out of every review of  The Canyons there was only one that might be seen as positive, from Scott Foundas of Variety . “Lohan may not go as deep or as far as Brando, but with her puffy skin, gaudy hoop earrings and thick eye makeup, there’s a little-girl-lost quality to the onetime Disney teen princess that’s very affecting. Whenever she’s onscreen, she projects a sense of just barely holding on to that precarious slide area in the shadow of the Hollywood sign.” Lohan, of course, responded to this review via Twitter saying, “Wow… feeling humbled and so much gratitude.” Is gratitude really the emotion one would be feeling in this position? I get the impression that Foundas was perhaps describing Lindsay Lohan the person as opposed to whatever character Linday Lohan happened to be portraying. “Puffy skin” is not often a compliment.  Positive or not,  Variety ‘s review of  The Canyons was the only one that could even be slightly interpreted as such. There were plenty more out there saying pretty much the exact opposite, makes one wonder if Foundas saw the same movie.  The Canyons Trailer A lame, one-dimensional and ultimately dreary look at peripheral Hollywood types not worth anyone’s time either onscreen or in real life. — Todd McCarthy,  The Hollywood Reporter Lohan (who hasn’t carried a hit since 2005’s  Herbie: Fully Loaded ) is more than believable, but neither the script nor her performance quite explains the fatal attraction that Tara seems to exert. In his first non-porn role, Deen  is excellent as the icy Christian. — John Hazelton,  Screendaily Lohan is a real actress, but in this movie she’s puffy and overwrought and unfocussed, and she weeps a lot. At times, needy and confused, she’s touching, but you’re not sure whether she’s crying in character, or lamenting her participation in a low-budget movie, or grieving over her own troubles. Whatever it is, she offers the only palpable emotion in the controlled wastes of The Canyons . The Canyons might have been more fun if it had a trashier, or less austere, style. — David Denby,  New Yorker Here, Lohan is as bland and unfocused as the material. During the once scene that allows her [to] degrade her oppressive boyfriend, her robotic delivery freezes the possibilities of bona fide tension (as well as titillation, for whatever that’s worth). — Eric Kohn,  Indiewire

It’s The Roc: Jay-Z Stops By The Angie Martinez Show, Talks Damon Dash And Miley Cyrus’ Twerking

Jay-Z still got love for Damon Dash. Jay-Z Talks Damon Dash And Miley Cyrus Jay-Z stopped by the Angie Martinez Show to give his opinion on everything from Damon Dash listening to his music to Miley Cyrus’ twerking. Check out the interview below. According to SOHH “Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Jay said when asked about Dash co-signing his new LP. “The thing, what we built, you can’t take that away so no matter what, no time or space — the love is still there. Because what we’ve done will forever be stamped in history. We created something that’s gonna go down forever. So I can only have love for Dame. I just don’t know where we are in our life, we’re not the same two men at that time when we gelled in that way. We were two different people. I haven’t seen him in a while. … [His publicized woes?] I can’t control everything. I can’t control the things in life. Of course if you see somebody going through problems, I have ultimate confidence in him that he’ll find his way ’cause he’s an amazing and smart guy — he’s a hustler and he’s highly intelligent, so I always root for him and always believe that he’ll find his way out of it. But I can’t control what happens in life.” “Miley’s serious, I like what she’s doing right now,” Jay said. “She’s fearless, just being herself — I think it’s more reaction from people wanting her to be ‘Hannah Montana.’ I don’t know, [it’s just from me] watching the situation I would say people want her to be something and she’s like, ‘I’m not that.’ …. That must be really frustrating and this is her reaction to it. Of course it’s loud but it’s understandable. [Miley Cyrus coming to Roc Nation?] Hey, there’s room on the roster. [laughs]“ View the video here If he was stuck on an island would he rather hear Damon Dash talk about his music or see Miley Cyrus twerk? Oh the possibilities.

Sell Out: Camel Man Hov Has Begun The Sale Of His Shares Of The Brooklyn Nets In Order To Represent NBA Players Throught Roc Nation Sports

Ah well, it was a good run while it lasted. Jay-Z Selling His Shares Of The Brooklyn Nets In Order To Represent NBA Players Through Roc Nation Sports Via Yahoo! Entertainment mogul and rapper Jay-Z has started the process of divesting his small share of ownership with the Brooklyn Nets to extend his Roc Nation Sports representation business into basketball, sources told Yahoo! Sports. Jay-Z – whose real name is Shawn Carter – owns less than 1 percent of the Nets, but has been a central public figure in the franchise’s marketing and move from New Jersey to Brooklyn. Selling his share of the Nets is a necessary prelude for Jay-Z to obtain his National Basketball Players Association certification as an agent. NBA rules mandate that no one individual affiliated with a player representation company can have an ownership stake with an NBA team. Jay-Z’s Roc Nation company has partnered with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to launch a sports representation business that recently secured New York Yankees star Robinson Cano. The process is expected to be completed in time for Roc Nation to compete for players entering the June NBA draft, but there’s no guarantee of the timing, sources said. Those within Roc Nation and the CAA alliance aren’t “chasing a clock on this,” one source said. “This isn’t about one draft, but taking the long view of the business.” Rival agents are anxious over the possibilities of Jay-Z on the recruiting trail, believing the lure of his iconic business and cultural standing will have a major impact on attracting top prospects and current league stars. The rich are always plotting a way to get richer. We’re sure between the sale of his shares and his new business interest in sports management, Jiggaman’s pockets will only get fatter.
