After a tumultuous two years in both her personal and professional lives, it’s clear that 2017 will be a major comeback year for Nina Dobrev. Dobrev is returning to The Vampire Diaries for the show’s series finale, even though it’ll mean working with her ex, Ian Somerhalder. Sounds like a nightmare scenario, but fortunately, Nina is riding high these days, thanks to the new man in her life. E! News is reporting today that Nina is dating actor Glen Powell. Powell might not be a household name, but he’s drawing rave reviews for his performance in Hidden Figures, and many expect him to be the next big thing. He’s also a regular on the Fox series Scream Queens. We’re sure Nina isn’t the type to date a guy or not date a guy because of his star power, but with the way her last relationship publicly imploded, it must a nice confidence boost to be tied to an up-and-coming heartthrob like Powell. In case you missed it, Dobrev and Somerhalder were romantically involved for several years, and TVD fans obsessed over their real-life romance as much as – if not more than – their onscreen love affair. The relationship ended in ugly fashion, and Somerhalder got married to Nikki Reed (a former friend of Dobrev’s) not long after he and Nina parted ways. Shortly after Somerhalder and Reed got engaged, Dobrev quit The Vampire Diaries , and, many believe, doomed the show to cancelation. (In fairness, even diehard fans admit the show’s quality has dropped off precipitously in recent years.) Dobrev has denied quitting the show as a result of her history with Somerhalder, but those in the know say she’s just covering her tracks. “The real reason she quit was because she couldn’t stand to see costar Ian with another woman,” one insider said at the time. “Seeing them together made it not fun to come to work at all.” So it’s noble of Nina to come back to the show for one last go-round for the sake of the fans and her former co-stars. We’re not saying the opportunity to throw her new relationship in Somerhalder’s face made the decision easier – but it probably didn’t hurt. We already know that Britney Spears and David Lucado want to start a family , and we’re sure they’ve been doing plenty of practicing in the baby-making department. So what’s holding them back? Well, apparently David is an old-fashioned type who doesn’t want to have kids until he gets married, And he doesn’t want to get married until his wife ends her Vegas residency and court-ordered conservatorship. Like we said, old-fashioned. Anyway, there’s no end in sight for Britney’s Vegas shows , so David might just have to get used to that. The legal entanglement is another story, altogether. Britney was placed under a conservatorship following her highly-publicized meltdown six years ago. Amazingly, it still remains intact and the 32-year-old mother of two is technically still under her father’s legal care. The conservatorship means Brit would need the permission of her father – and possibly even her medical team – in order to marry Lucado. There’s no reason to assume they wouldn’t give it to her, but it’s understandable that she may want to make the decision herself like a big girl. Sadly, sources say that like her popular Vegas show, Brit’s conservatorship is here to stay. “Even though Britney is doing very well, there are no plans to end the conservatorship anytime soon,” says an insider. “Her doctors just don’t think she is ready to be on her own yet.” So you may want to go ahead and put a ring on it anyway, David. Kajieme Powell, a St. Louis resident, was shot and killed by police Tuesday, just a few miles from the tension that continues to simmer in Ferguson, Mo. In a case that has drawn parallels to the death of Michael Brown for more reasons than geographic proximity, officers claimed they feared for their lives. Powell charged at them with a knife, which he held with an “overhand grip” and came within 3-4 feet of the officers, they say, at which time they fired. The fatal confrontation was captured on this graphic cell phone video: Kajieme Powell Shooting Video The incident stemmed from a call by a Six Star Market owner after Powell allegedly stole two energy drinks, according to local news station KSDK. Reports from witnesses claim that Powell was behaving erratically, pacing back and forth on the street and talking to himself, while carrying the knife. St. Louis Metro Police Chief Sam Dotson said the officers only shot because this was a suspect with a knife coming within 3-4 feet of the officers. This cell phone video of the altercation calls into question, at least in part, the officers’ version of events, and Dotson’s defense of them, however. Told by two officers to drop the knife, Powell begins yelling “shoot me, shoot me, shoot me now,” as he walks onto a ledge then steps off as if to approach. He is killed almost immediately upon stepping toward the police. Hands at his sides, it appears to some observers as if Powell never came within more than 10 feet of them before they shot him dead on the spot. Given the protests in Ferguson , the city, state and nation are understandably on edge over controversial cases such as this and Michael Brown’s. While Powell’s actions would give anybody pause, we are once again left with a case that has sparked widespread controversy over the use of lethal force. What do you think? Today, BK Nation, a non-profit organization founded by activist Kevin Powell, has created a petition calling for an end of support for R. Kelly’s singing career. The Village Voice piece revealed horrific details of Kelly’s sexual abuse allegations proving that there was much more to the singer’s troubled past than previously rumored. As a result, Powell is calling on a boycott of Kelly, with a plea for black men to join the movement. Here is part of what Powell wrote on Change.org: We at BK NATION are calling on radio stations, video channels, music publications and websites, members of the entertainment industry, and men and women of all backgrounds to sign our petition COMPLETELY BOYCOTTING R. Kelly’s musical and artistic career until he is completely honest about who is, publicly apologizes for this behavior cited from many sources, gets extended counseling, and takes a very public stand and actions against sexual violence in any form. Kevin Powell, president and cofounder of BK Nation, is especially asking men, including Black men, to join us in taking a very public stand against any form of sexual violence and assault against women, girls, and children. Colin Powell has had some ‘splaining to do after a hacker got hold of personal emails between him and a Romanian diplomat “friend” who confessed her love for him. Via NY Daily News reports : Colin Powell denied Thursday that he cheated on his wife of 50 years with a blond Romanian diplomat with whom he shared emails of “a very personal nature.” Powell, 76, was forced to clarify his relationship with Corina Cretu, 46, after a notorious hacker dubbed “Guccifer” posted a link to their emails on his Facebook page. “I’ve loved you too much, too many years. YOU were my greatest love of my life . . . ,” Cretu emailed Powell on Nov. 14, 2011. She also sent him numerous photos of herself, including shots of her in a bikini and in a hot tub. But her affection for the retired four-star general seems to have never been reciprocated. The emails from Powell to Cretu that have become public were chatty — until he learned his account had been hacked and advised her to delete their exchanges. Hers had a different tone. “I did not believe that at 43 I can cry more for a man like a teenager,” she emailed Powell on Christmas Eve 2010. Cretu still seemed enamored in 2011. “Nobody (is) saying to go to bed. I just want to see you, nothing more,” she wrote. TheSmokingGun.com reported Thursday that the hacker obtained the emails that were exchanged between 2010 and 2011 by raiding Powell’s personal AOL account. In response to the website’s questions, Powell issued a statement insisting he has not been unfaithful to his wife, Alma. “This was a friendship that electronically became very personal and then back to normal,” Powell told the website. He said he met Cretu about 10 years ago while he was President George W. Bush’s secretary of state and she was the spokeswoman for the president of Romania. He said they’ve only seen each other “once or twice” over the past eight years. Cretu, who was elected in 2007 to the European Parliament, serves as vice chairwoman of the Parliament’s Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. She also recently got married. After learning his AOL account had been hacked, Powell advised Cretu it was “best to delete all between us.” He said that after leaving the State Department in January 2005, he stayed in touch with Cretu via email and “frequently gave her advice on the prospects of finding a position with the UN or other international organizations.” “There was no affair then, and there is not one now,” said Powell, adding that they continue to be “friends.” The same hacker claimed responsibility in February for raiding email accounts belonging to members of the Bush family, revealing correspondence and a self-portrait of President George W. Colin Powell took a moment this morning to call out those shady Republicans who are blatantly racist azzholes… According to Think Progress: On Sunday, during an appearance on Meet The Press, Colin Powell condemned the GOP’s “dark vein of intolerance” and the party’s repeated use of racial code words to oppose President Obama and rally white conservative voters. Without mentioning names, Powell singled out former Mitt Romney surrogate and New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu for calling Obama “lazy” and Sarah Palin, who, Powell charged, used slavery-era terms to describe Obama: POWELL: There’s also a dark — a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party. What do I mean by that? I mean by that that they still sort of look down on minorities. How can I evidence that? When I see a former governor say that the President is “shuckin’ and jivin’,” that’s racial era slave term. When I see another former governor after the president’s first debate where he didn’t do very well, says that the president was lazy. He didn’t say he was slow. He was tired. He didn’t do well. He said he was lazy. Now, it may not mean anything to most Americans, but to those of us who are African Americans, the second word is shiftless and then there’s a third word that goes along with that.
