What about the children… Head Start To Kick 70,000 Low Income Children Out Of The Program Recent budget cuts and sequestration will be forcing thousands of low-income, pre-school-aged children out of the popular “Head Start” schooling program and many parents and school administrators are being left to figure out what to do next. via Think Progress The early childhood education program Head Start provides educational opportunities specifically to low-income kids. But 70,000 of those students will lose the opportunity to be in the program as a result of the drastic reductions in funding triggered by sequestration. Reports are beginning to roll in about how children will bear the brunt of Congressional inaction. In several states, programs have to decide where they will make the cuts. In some cases, that means picking which students will be kept in the program, and which will be forced to leave: INDIANA: “At least two Indiana Head Start programs have resorted to a random drawing to determine which three-dozen preschool students will be removed from the education program for low-income families, a move officials said was necessary to limit the impact of mandatory across-the-board federal spending cuts. [Programs] in Columbus and Franklin are losing two classrooms, meaning 36 children won’t be able to return after Friday. [Indiana Journal Gazette, March 13, 2013.] TENNESSEE: “A letter went out recently to parents and guardians with children in the program stating that the cuts have affected the Head Start program in several ways. One, and perhaps the move that hurts more families than any, is that all bus transportation will discontinue on March 18. The letter was sent out shortly after the sequestration took place on March 1 to give the parents a couple of weeks to try to find alternate means of transportation. And there may be dollars lost from our partnership with the Spokane School District for serving kids with disabilities,’ said [The Director of Program Services, David Colburn] Colburn. Hopefully something can be worked out to minimize this trend ASAP.

According to the interview , he says the figures ‘aren’t accurate’, and Soledad asks ‘why are you trying to balance the budget on people who make less than $23k a year?!?!’ Soledad O’Brien grilled Sen. Jeff Sessions over his efforts to cut the federal food stamps program on Tuesday’s “Starting Point.” Earlier this year, Sessions proposed removing $11 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. He advocated cuts on Tuesday, arguing that food stamp spending has gone up even though unemployment is currently on the decline. O’Brien seemed skeptical. “There are people who’d say if you’re doing cuts, you invariably hurt people who need food and people who need food stamps to buy supplemental food,” she said. Sessions argued that the program has been “growing out of control” and “there are a lot of people receiving benefits who do not qualify and should not receive them.” O’Brien said that Sessions himself voted to expand the program in 2002 and 2008, and cited research that found the program has a low rate of fraud. Later, she said, “When you’re thinking of things to cut, people basically say, why are you trying to balance the budget on people making less than $23,000 a year… So why not cut something else? There are other things that could be on the table before you pick a program that is feeding the nation’s poor children.” Sessions said that he was not picking on solely the food stamp program. “I say all programs need to be examined in this government,” he responded. “This government is wasting money every day.” SMH…when will these old azz white men stop slashing monies for those in need?? Oral Roberts to pursue Trickey as his program#39;s coach the following year. Trickey also coached at Oklahoma City University. According to UK Daily Mail reports : It was meant to be her big TV break, but Rihanna’s television debut has been axed following poor ratings – amid claims that the production was a ‘nightmare’. The singer, 24, was the star and executive producer on Sky Living Show Styled To Rock, where wannabe designers battled it out to make a festival outfit for their idol. However, she only made three appearances on the program – including the finale, where she picked up the winning outfit. But despite the fact that Rihanna called on friends including Cheryl Cole, Kanye West and Katy Perry to guest star, Styled to Rock has been scrapped after ratings fell to below 79,000. However, the show – presented by fashion designer Henry Holland and Nicola Roberts of Girls Aloud – has been sold to the US Style Network without Rihanna on board. A TV source told MailOnline: ‘Scheduling all these pop stars with our filming schedule was a nightmare. Rihanna’s diary was manic, and to be honest, after it struggled for viewers it was always going to be difficult to get her to agree to do another series. During filming, Rihanna sparked concern for her health when she scrapped a 10-week trip to the UK for work – forcing a planned appearance on the program to be rescheduled. But she angrily dismissed claims that her health was affected by constant partying and said she was visiting her family. However, just weeks later she tweeted pictures of herself hooked up to an IV. Last November she cancelled a concert in Sweden when she was taken to hospital and put on a drip. Doctors put her weakness down to a bad case of flu.
