Caitlyn Jenner: Artist Recreates Vanity Fair Cover Using Online Death Threats

When Caitlyn Jenner covered Vanity Fair back in June, the response on social media was overwhelmingly positive. With the release of her first photo as Cait  (previously referred to only as “her”), Jenner became the most famous transgender individual on the planet. It’s hard to think of another magazine photo that represented such monumental progress for a downtrodden sector of society. Unfortunately, with progress comes vocal opposition from those who are threatened by change. Caitlyn was mocked and threatened by thousands social media messages. Now, one artist has turned all of that hate into something beautiful: British artist Conor Collins took thousands of death threats and other bigoted messages posted for Caitlyn online and used them to recreate her iconic VF photo. “When I saw these I wanted to show them because it is a reality of what trans people experience every day,” Collins tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It was horrible having to research and write the tweets onto the canvas…For every person who sees it another person is shown the persecution and real danger trans people face. I don’t know if Caitlyn has seen it herself yet though, would be interesting to see what she thought about it if she did.” As with Caitlyn’s coming out , the response to Collins’ has been mostly positive, but has also generated some negative responses: “Trans people are people’s brothers, sisters, children, friends, mothers and fathers,” says Collins. “I hope Caitlyn and her program may help people realize that.” Several fans of Collins’ work have tweeted photos of it to Caitlyn in hopes that she’ll share how the project made her feel. GOP Debate Bad Lip Reading: Don’t Go Around the Tuna!

You might think that the first Republican primary debate couldn't possibly get any funnier, but the folks at Bad Lip Reading are about to prove you wrong. Yes, they've given you bad lip reads of the NFL and the priceless comedy of the Redneck Avengers , but now the BLR crew is taking on its easiest target yet: Trump. Gone are the ridiculous attacks on Rosie O'Donnell . Instead, we get Trump's true feelings on tuna melts and more information than we'd like about what they do to his digestive tract. There's also talk of dead mice on crescent rolls, Chris Christie's views on potatoes (He likes 'em!) and Rand Paul's thoughts on frozen babies. Actually, that last one might be a topic the candidates actually touched on in the real debate. We're not sure; we tend to briefly lose consciousness after listening to the Donald speak.

Rand Paul Announces 2016 Presidential Bid

As expected, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul announced this morning that he will seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 2016. “I am running for president to return our country to the principles of liberty and limited government,” Paul, 52, wrote on his official campaign website. Running to “restore liberty and prosperity for ourselves and for future generations,” he is scheduled to declare his candidacy at a rally in Louisville, Kentucky. Before entering the world of politics with a Senate victory in 2010, Rand Paul owned his own ophthalmology practice and performed eye surgery for 18 years. He is the first U.S. Senate member to serve while a parent – his father, three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul – served in the House of Representatives. The younger Paul has served on the Health Education, Labor and Pensions, Homeland Security and Government Affairs and Small Business Committees. He also formed the Senate Tea Party Caucus and has been one of the higher-profile members of the GOP since arriving in D.C. a little over four years ago. Rand’s announcement comes on the heels of Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s presidential bid , announced on behalf of the Republican Party last month. Former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who are leading early public opinion polls, are also expected to get in the race. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is expected to announce his bid on April 13, while New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is viewed as a possible candidate as well. 13 Awkward Photos of 2016 Presidential Candidates 1. Old School Clintons That’s Bill Clinton! And that’s Hillary Clinton! Cory Booker Elected to U.S. Senate in Special Election

Cory Booker, the charismatic mayor of Newark, is now a member of the U.S. Senate from New Jersey after winning a special election on Wednesday. The Democrat, heavily favored in polls, defeated conservative Republican Steve Lonegan. Booker had an 11-point lead with the vote 90 percent counted. Booker, 44, spoke to supporters in Newark and thanked them for turning out to vote against the backdrop of the 16-day government shutdown . “You didn’t just vote, you believed that your vote and choice mattered,” he said. “It would have been easy to listen to this frustrating negativity and stay home.” “But here in New Jersey, more than a million people rejected cynicism and came out on a Wednesday, in the middle of October, to fight the cynicism.” Booker is the first black U.S. Senator from New Jersey and joins Republican Tim Scott of South Carolina as the nation’s only two black U.S. senators. He will fill the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Frank Lautenberg, who died in June at age 89. Booker had planned to run for this seat in 2014. Lautenberg’s passing prompted a special election, however, and Gov. Chris Christie, who is running for re-election now, set the October 16 date. Christie, like Booker a possible White House contender in 2016 or down the road, could have scheduled the Senate race for Election Day, November 5. Democrats said was avoiding being on the ballot with Booker, who could attract Democratic turnout. He said he wanted to fill the Senate vacancy ASAP. Booker, a Rhodes scholar and Yale Law School graduate, rocketed to fame in the state’s largest city, which has long struggled with poverty and crime. Booker is known to rub shoulders with celebrities and is a near-constant presence on Twitter, where he recently befriended stripper Lynsie Lee . Newark received a $100 million gift to its schools from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who said he had met Booker and was impressed by his plans. A bachelor, Booker has long been rumored as a future presidential candidate. Whether that happens or not, he’s one step closer to it being possible now.

Snook and Chris Christie: The Most Awkward Jersey Shore Meeting Ever!

When New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Snooki run into each other on a Jersey Shore boardwalk, awkwardness ensues. For them. For THG, quality viewing. During the meeting, which took place as they filmed separate segments for NBC’s Today , Snooki complained that Christie is standing too close to her. Hilariously, he responded by standing even closer to the reality star. CC then extended a hand to Snook (who was flanked by JWoww and Deena), and who replied, “I just wanted to meet you, and just, hope you start to like us.” As Snooki walks away, her facial expression is hilarious. Chris Christie, Gay Therapy Bill Cause Controversy in N.J.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said this week that he isn’t sure if he would sign a bill to ban the practice of using therapies to turn a gay child into a straight child. His expected challenger for reelection, State Sen. Barbara Buono, a co-sponsor of the bill banning gay conversion therapy of minors, calls that “disgusting.” The Buono team clearly senses an opening to cast the popular Republican governor as a right-wing fanatic, something he is rarely if ever called. He was asked yesterday about the bill, which passed out of a legislative committee Monday and has yet to be approved by the full state legislature. Christie said that he generally doesn’t decide on bills before they reach his desk and he had only recently heard of the practice of gay conversion. He also said: “You know, I’m of two minds on this stuff in general. One, I think there should be lots of deference given to parents on raising their children.” “This is general now not to this bill, but generally philosophically on bills that restrict parents’ ability to make decisions on how to care for their children.” “I’m generally a skeptic on those things. Now, of course, there can always be exceptions to those rules and this bill may be one of them.” Buono responded: “I was shocked at the stunning level of ignorance that statement showed.” She accused Christie of playing to the right. “All of this governor’s decisions are geared to what plays in the national Republican party,” Buono said on a conference call with reporters Wednesday. The bill, which passed out of committee with all Democrats voting in favor and all but one Republican voting no or abstaining, is short and straightforward. It would forbid licensed therapists and counselors from trying to change the sexual orientation of a minor. Simple, and yet anything but for Christie. Senators heard dramatic testimony about such conversion therapy, with a transgender woman from Toms River telling of being forced to go to a conversion camp. There, she said she was shocked with electricity and given vomit-inducing medicine while being shown “unacceptable” images during her “conversion.” Others who experienced gay conversion told of being forced to masturbate while looking at images of naked women and being shown pics of AIDS victims. Opponents said that banning conversion therapy – also known as reparative therapy – would violate both parents’ rights and the First Amendment. “I don’t understand why you people are coming into our homes and trying to tell us what to do with our minor children,” said Carol Gallentine of Living Free Ministries. “Under 18, it’s the parents’ right, it’s our civil right, to raise our children the best we can.” Christie opposes gay marriage but doesn’t believe homosexuality is a sin. He favors civil unions and a ballot referendum so voters can decide on gay marriage. A Christie spokesman later said he “does not believe in conversion therapy.” He also cited his comments that sexual orientation is determined at birth. He won’t say whether he will sign the gay conversion ban until he sees the final bill. Christie, a name frequently mentioned as a 2016 election candidate for president, is seeking a second term as Governor of New Jersey this fall.
