Nueces County Jail Texas Woman Arrested After Selling Her Child A Texas mother has been arrested after allegedly selling her child. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Texas Department of Public Safety obtained a warrant to search the home of a Nueces County Woman, and when authorities arrived and searched the home, they found a 7-year-old boy. The woman says she purchase the child from the his mother, Esmeralda Garza. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to USA Today, the transaction totaled $2,500. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Garza stated that she and her boyfriend owe drug money and gave her child to (the woman) who pay $500 cash and clear the owe debt and and extra $700 when the ‘custody paperwork’ was signed,” a report states. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to DPS Sgt. Nathan Brandley, the woman was in the process of selling her two and three-year-old daughters as well. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The 29-year-old is facing third degree felony charges for selling a child. She is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Justice??? Sandra Bland’s Family Settles Wrongful Death Suit The family of Sandra Bland will be awarded $1.9 million for the Texas woman’s death. Furthermore any legislation passed which benefits Waller County must be named after Bland. The New York Daily News reports: The family of Sandra Bland, the woman who died in a Texas jail after her controversial arrest, has settled a wrongful death lawsuit for $1.9 million, an attorney said. The family’s lawyer told ABC13 Thursday the civil suit has been settled, and the jail where Bland died will pay the bulk of it. The Waller County jail is on the hook for $1.8 million of the settlement, the attorney said. The Texas Department of Public Safety will pay $100,000 — the maximum amount allowed under state law. The case was scheduled to go to a jury trial in January 2017. Bland, 28, died in the jail in July 2015, days after her arrest after a traffic stop. A medical examiner, as well as the FBI, said she committed suicide by asphyxiating herself with a plastic garbage bag behind bars. But Bland’s family has said she may have been murdered, and would not have killed herself. No investigation has substantiated their claim. Is $1.9 million a fair settlement for Sandra Bland’s family??? It will never bring her back, but hopefully the settlement and the changes to the jail where she died brings them some comfort.

Baltimore Officers Caught Looting During Riots The Baltimore Police continue to be called into question after Freddie Gray’s death and the subsequent riots last month. Now, new video has surfaced showing officers sent in to help neutralize the situation joining in on the rioting. Via RawStory : Three Baltimore police officers were accused of theft in two separate investigations — including two charged after being caught on video looting a store during the unrest that followed the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray. According to the Baltimore Sun, correction officers Tamika Cobb and Kendra Richard were suspended without pay after footage showed them exiting a local convenience store holding Slim Jims and Tostitos chips on April 25. Take a look: That same day, riots broke out in the city after six hours of peaceful protests calling for charges to be filed against the officers who arrested Gray earlier that month. Six officers were later charged in connection wih Gray’s death. Both Cobb and Richard were assigned to corrections facilities downtown, near the site of the unrest. They face charges of burglary and theft, and bail was set for each of them at $35,000. Public Safety and Correctional Services Secretary Stephen T. Moyer said in a statement that authorities began investigating the two officers following a tip. “We will not allow the vast majority of our employees who are honest and hardworking to be tainted by the actions of a few,” he said. And yet…some still question that members of the Baltimore PD are crooked.
A massive explosion ripped through a fertilizer plant in the town of West, Texas Wednesday night, injuring more than 100 and leaving many feared dead. Authorities were bracing to find victims in collapsed buildings, which rescuers could not approach due to the flames and dangerous chemicals. The West, Texas explosion happened about 8 p.m. in the town town of 2,800 about 20 miles north of Waco. It was unclear what had triggered it. Mayor Tommy Muska, a volunteer firefighter, said he was responding to the blaze and was two blocks away from the plant when it exploded. “I’ve just never seen an explosion like that. It was just a ball of fire,” he said. “It looked like a nuclear bomb went off; it was just a big old mushroom cloud.” D.L. Wilson, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said at least 100 people had been injured and an unknown number of people were dead. As many as 75 houses were damaged and a 50-unit apartment building looked like a “skeleton standing up,” he said of the aftermath of the blast. Making matters worse, a 133-person nursing home was near the explosion, and its residents had been evacuated to the community center. “I searched some houses earlier tonight. Massive,” Wilson said of the damage. “It’s just like Iraq; just like the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City.” The latter may be more accurate. Wilson likened the chemicals used in the 1995 Oklahoma City blast to the chemicals at the plant when it exploded. The blaze went unfought for hours as firefighters focused on rescuing victims and survivors and as officials evacuated an eight- to 10-block area. But those close to the club scene say Manhattan boites have been balking at that figure. “It’s unlikely that [a club] in New York would pay that amount,” said one top nightlife promoter. “For that amount of money, Vegas makes sense. That’s normal for Vegas. After decades of influencing Miami’s young to “pop that thang baby!” Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell is making good on previous comments that he’d consider running for Mayor of Miami. Campbell is one of nearly a dozen people who indicated they want to be Miami-Dade’s next mayor by filing the necessary paperwork to be placed on the May 24th special election ballot. The mayoral seat was left vacant after a March 15 recall election where 88 percent of voters said then Mayor Carlos Alvarez should be removed from office. The deadline to file was 5 p.m. Tuesday April 12th. According to CBS reports : Before filing his paperwork, Campbell addressed a group in Miami Beach. “My major hurdle is people taking me seriously, a lot of people think this is a joke,” Campbell told the crowd who swore he’s serious about the mayor’s job. “I call it a banana republic and I’m serious about it. You look at the commission and they make their own rules as they go, regardless of what the county attorney says, they make their own rules, just do what they want. Mexican police arrest man hiding 18 monkeys under clothes at airport By the CNN Wire Staff July 20, 2010 4:17 p.m. EDT (CNN) — Mexican authorities searching a man with a bulge under his shirt at the airport in the nation's capital found 18 monkeys hidden beneath his clothes, police said. Investigators grew suspicious after Roberto Sol Cabrera Zavaleta, 38, became “markedly nervous” when asked what he was transporting, Mexico's Public Safety Department said. Two of the tiny titi monkeys he was carrying in a belt were dead, the department said in a statement, and 16 of them survived the journey from Lima, Peru. Cabrera has been detained as authorities continue their investigation, the statement said. In an interview with authorities released by police, Cabrera said he first carried the monkeys in his suitcase, but then hid the animals in his clothes so they would not be harmed by X-ray machines at the airport. He described the animals as “pets” and told authorities he had purchased them for $30. Titi monkeys are protected endangered species requiring a permit for possession, police said. Images released by police show the tiny creatures, many of which are tied up in pouches, squirming in a cardboard box.
