Source: Nomad / Getty 68-year old grandfather, William Hannah , has died after Salford Royal Hospital in the U.K. mistakingly filled his lungs with cleaning detergent instead of saline. The Hannah family’s lawyer told PEOPLE , During the procedure the doctor found there was no saline solution in the equipment trolley and so asked a healthcare assistant to pass this to him. However, the assistant became confused and instead of providing the doctor with the requested saline, accidentally handed him an unlabelled bottle containing detergent that they had prepared for cleaning equipment. The doctor then unknowingly used the cleaning solution to wash-out William’s lung. Following an internal investigation into the wrongful death, the Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust concluded that the hospital did not deliver the “high standard of care” and offered its apologies to the family. Hearings for the case begin in February 2019. SMH, so sad.
(Family courtesy photo via AP) It has been almost six months since two Sacramento police officers shot and killed 22-year-old Stephon Clark as he stood in the backyard of his grandmother’s home. The officers fired about 20 shots and said that they thought he was holding a gun and were in fear for their lives. He was only holding a cell phone. The Sacramento Police Department’s internal investigation of the shooting is still ongoing, as is the investigation being led by the California State Attorney General. Both officers involved in Clark’s death have been back on the job for at least four months, and activists continue demanding justice for his death. According to the Sacramento Bee, Clark’s family has filed $35 million in wrongful death claims with the city of Sacramento. The city has not officially released any documents to confirm this, a news release acknowledged that claims forms seeking damages “in excess of $15 million” for “nine separate causes of action that include negligence and wrongful death” have been filed with the city. Los Angeles attorney Dale Galipo and other attorneys reportedly filed claims seeking $20 million for Clark’s two children and $15 million for his grandparents and parents. According to the Bee , the documents were filed just before the six-month deadline to submit a wrongful death claim to the city. Such claims usually indicate a federal civil rights lawsuit will follow. Ice Cube And Dr. Dre Cleared Of Responsibility In Hit And Run Death Remember when Suge Knight ran over one of his former friends — killing him in the process — as security tried to block him from entering the set of Straight Outta Compton back in early 2015? While Suge awaits trial for the murder, the family is suing everyone they thing is involved in the man’s tragic death…including Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. However, a judge has ruled that the blame lies solely with Suge . All claims against the rapper/moguls have been dropped. Via TMZ : Good news for Ice Cube and Dr. Dre — they’ve been dismissed from the wrongful death lawsuit that had been filed against them and Suge Knight for the death of Terry Carter. A court ruled Cube and Dre aren’t responsible for Carter’s death because it’s unfathomable to blame them for Knight’s reckless and allegedly criminal act — running over and killing Carter. TMZ broke the story … Cube and Dre were named defendants, along with Suge, when Carter’s family filed the suit … claiming Cube and Dre hired known gang members as security to keep Knight away from “Straight Outta Compton” shoot locations. Suge ran over Carter shortly after security gave him the boot, and the family felt that’s what sent him into him into a rage. The lawsuit remains against Suge, who also has a murder trial pending for the fatal hit-and-run. Well, good. At the end of the day, no one ran over that poor man — may he rest in peace — but Suge Knight. Splash/WENN/FFN/AKM-GSI

Jim Carrey has fired back against accusations that he gave his late ex-girlfriend sexually transmitted diseases and supplied her with drugs that led to her suicide. Yes, Carrey has really been accused of such things. Earlier this week, Mark Burton filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Carrey. Burton was the estranged husband of Cathriona White, Carrey’s longtime, on-again/off-again girlfriend who killed herself in September of 2015. She left a note at the time that apologized to Carrey for letting him down and which admitted life without the actor had grown too difficult for her. In new legal documents, Burton makes the claim that the drugs White used to kill herself were supplied to her by Carrey. He alleges that the Ambien, Propranolol and Percocet that were found in White’s system were prescribed to Arthur King, an alias often used by Carrey. Burton’s lawsuit alleges Carrey had an “obsession with controlling and manipulating White,” along with “the ability to monitor surveillance cameras on a home White often stayed at and was able, by design, to view the residence remotely to keep track of White’s comings and goings.” In response to these heinous charges, Carrey issued a statement that implied Burton was clearly looking for a financial settlement. But one would not be forthcoming. “What a terrible shame,” Carrey said. “It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world. “I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control. “I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.” Burton, meanwhile, has gone ahead and amended his wrongful death suit against Carrey to include the stunning new claim against celebrity. Burton says Carrey and White had a text conversation in February 2013 wherein she told him she thought she had contracted multiple STDs. Herpes Type I, Herpes Type 2 and Gonorrhea, to be specific. He goes on to allege that Carrey convinced White to keep these diseases a secret. Burton claims this secret contributed to White’s fragile state of mind at the time she committed suicide, writing in his lawsuit that White referred to herself as “damaged goods.” In reply to this new set of assertions, Carrey’s attorney explained to TMZ that Burton and White had a “sham marriage” that only existed to help him “evade immigration laws.” The lawyer goes on to say White reached out to Carrey in 2014 and begged him to get back together, not exactly the move one would make if one held a grudge against an ex for giving her STDs. Carrey’s legal team says this is nothing but a “shakedown lawsuit.” What does Carrey say? In a new statement, he doesn’t mince words or waste words, simply declaring: “Is this the way a ‘husband’ honors the memory of his ‘wife?’ The real disease here is greed, shameful greed.” Carrey’s side has made it very clear that Jim has no intention of settling with Burton.
