Last week, you and I watched the first trailer for Tarsem Singh’s Mirror, Mirror in slack-jawed horror. (After all, aren’t Snow White adaptations supposed to be about the titular princess and not Julia Roberts’s aging concerns, Bollywood dance numbers and Armie Hammer’s impression of a dog?) Surprisingly though, not all of the Internet’s feedback was negative. A few brave souls commented on the Relativity trailer enthusiastically — and now MovieMavericks.com is claiming that some of those suspicious thumbs-up reviews came from the same source.

This just in from the reportedly outgoing Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh, answering questions at Relativity Media’s panel at Comic-Con : “Matt Damon is apparently as discreet as a 14-year-old girl. I had this drunk conversation with him while shooting Contagion and four days later, I read about it in the paper. And he read it verbatim. Nobody in this economy wants to hear about someone quitting a good job. That kind of got blown out of proportion. And that’s Matt’s fault.” Aha! Cue “Blamin’ Damon” headlines in 3… 2… (And check out all of Movieline’s Comic-Con 2011 coverage here .)

Relativity Media sends word today that it has acquired Machine Gun Preacher , the Marc Forster-directed, Gerard Butler-starring biopic about a drug dealer-turned-man of God who becomes a crusader for refugee children in East Africa. And thus did the studio — with its Sept. 23 limited release date (and presumed Toronto Film Festival debut) — and its partners at Lionsgate enter the awards hunt. Full details about the film and its rollout are below.
