Woman In Brooklyn Sues NYPD, Claiming She Was Arrested For Rejecting The Cop’s Sexual Advances

Kena Betancur/Getty Images Woman Claims Her Arrest Was Actually A Case Of Sexual Harassment A woman in Brooklyn is suing the city of New York and NYPD Officer Javier Munoz following a traffic stop that turned into a case of sexual harassment against her arresting officer. Jasmine Campbell is suing for the amount of $2 million after an incident regarding a traffic stop on February 26, 2014. During this incident, NYPD Officer Munoz allegedly “kept looking at [Jasmine] and leaned in like he wanted to have a private talk.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Campbell commented on the officer’s actions saying, “He kept looking down at my chest. He asked me, ‘Do you have anything underneath your shirt?’ I said, ‘No.’ I felt embarrassed. He leaned in further and asked, ‘Do you want to show me something?’ He said that with a smirk on his face.” She also added, “Now, all this sexual harassment is big news — but I have been telling the same story since 2014. This is not something new to me.” ⠀⠀ The stop happened while Campbell was on her way to get something to eat with a friend. On the way, she was stopped by Munoz and another, unidentified cop. Munoz ordered Campbell out of the driver’s seat with her hands up, where the other cop allegedly asked her for a hug, which she refused. Unknown to Campbell, her friend was carrying a small amount of marijuana. Both of them were taken to the 75th Precinct after he confessed, but while her friend was released with only ticket, Jasmine was booked on misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and criminal possession of marijuana. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The NYPD Officer and New York City have denied the claims, saying, “There was probable cause for [Campbell’s] arrest, detention, and subsequent prosecution.” They attempted to reach a settlement with Campbell for $2,500, but she rejected. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Jerry Van Dyke Dies; Emmy-Nominated Actor Was 86

Jerry Van Dyke, a veteran actor and the younger brother of iconic comedian Dick Van Dyke, died on Friday afternoon at his ranch in Arkansas. He was 86 years old. According to Jerry’s wife, per TMZ, the actor passed away with her by his side.  The exact cause of death is unknown at this time, but the couple had been in a car accident two years ago and Van Dyke’s health had sadly gone downhill ever since. A native of Danville, Illinois, Van Dyke got his start on television by making appearances on The Dick Van Dyke Show, the beloved sitcom that starred his real-life older sibling. He also made appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Judy Garland Show early on in his career. Prior to dedicating his professional life to acting, Jerry pursued stand-up comedy as a young man and performed at military bases around the globe. Van Dyke has a very long and impressive resume, but he’s likely best known for his role as Assistant Coach Luther Horatio Van Dam on the TV sitcom Coach, which earned him four Emmy Award nominations. The series ran from 1989 to 1997. It was anchored by Craig T. Nelson. Coach centered on the fictional Minnesota State University Screaming Eagles and it often featured guest appearances by professional football figures such as Troy Aikman, Dick Butkus and Jerry Jones, as well as actors like Lucy Liu, Drew Carey and Mary Hart. Van Dyke’s Luther was an assistant coach who was known for his bumbling ways and occasional moments of pathos. This is a photo of him from the show: His final small screen appearance took place on ABC’s hit show The Middle in 2015. Well aware of his brother’s enormous fame, Jerry said the following to USA Today back in the 1990s: “I was always known as Dick Van Dyke’s brother and the guy that did My Mother the Car. Now people know me that never knew me before, that don’t even know Dick. That’s really a thrill.” He maintained this kind of sense of humor throughout his career. “If I had it all to do over again, I definitely would have turned things down,” he told The Associated Press in 1994, adding: “Almost everything I did!”  And then there was this, to The Toronto Star that same year: “I’m getting sick of Dick riding on my coattails. I just can’t prop up his career forever.” Jerry Van Dyke is survived by two kids and his wife. May he rest in peace. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam

Stassi Schroeder Wears "Nazi Chic" Ensemble, Receives ALL the Hate

There are certain words in the English language that should never go together: Donald Trump and genius . Justin Bieber and humble . Ryan Gosling and ugly . Stassi Schroeder has managed to come up with a pair that we never would have thought of, let alone used as a description on social media to describe an outfit we were wearing… … Nazi chic . The Vanderpump Rules star stepped into some scalding hot water on Saturday when she shared a photo on Snapchat of herself and friends Rachel O’Brien and Kristen Doute, presumably prior to hitting the town. Describing the ensemble O’Brien is wearing, Schroeder wrote that it was “criminal chic.” Sort of an odd phrasing, but broad and vague enough to not be offensive. Doute, Schroeder added, was going with a “Tupac chic” look. This was likely a reference to the bandana atop her head and it was only mildly offensive because Tupac was murdered, yes, but there nothing really insulting about what Stassi wrote. As for herself? As you can see below, Schroeder joked that her fashion choice was “Nazi chic.” For starters, we have no idea what this even means. Is the Bravo personality quipping that Hitler and his underlings rocked similar style hats back in the 1930s and 1940s when they were working to wipe out Jewish people from the planet? Is this a reference to the initials “SS” on her purse, which stand for her name – but which were also the shorthand for “Schutzstaffel,” the foremost agency of security, surveillance and terror within Germany and German-occupied Europe? It’s not entirely clear. But was is clear, based on the negative reaction Schroeder has received online, is that perhaps one should not joke about Nazis, especially not in relation to them being “chic.” Wrote one disgusted Internet user, addressing Bravo executive Andy Cohen: “@Andy nothing but class from Stassi. I hope someone at your network is smart enough to fire her before you lose viewers.” Added another critic of the description: “@LisaVanderpump you may want to rethink employment opportunities for Stassi. Guess joking ab[o]ut the SS is hilarious in LA?” Clearly aware of the backlash, Schroeder eventually deleted the picture and reposted it with a new caption that detailed her as “#Elsa-Indiana Jones Chic,” referring to the Austrian archaeologist portrayed by Alison Doody in 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. She called the new caption an “appropriate redo.” But was she really sorry?  Does she really understand why so many people were offended by the initial photo? It doesn’t appear that way, based on the following meme that she shared last night on Twitter: Schroeder is basically saying here that people are way too sensitive these days. Late last year, meanwhile, she also came under fire for making fun of the #MeToo movement . In response to Matt Lauer, Kevin Spacey and MANY others being called out for their heinous actions, the Vanderpump Rules cast member wondered if there was a “witch hunt” against men going on in Hollywood. On her podcast, she said no one could “make me suck a dick,” implying the victims in these cases were weak and not really victims, prior to walking back her stance as best she could. “My podcast is an outlet for me to share my unfiltered opinion with my listeners,” she Tweeted in the wake of this scandal, adding at the time: “But on my latest episode I crossed a line. It was irresponsible for me to make generalized statements about a very serious topic, such as sexual harassment, as it is not my place to speak about anyone else’s experiences. “I apologize. I will continue to speak my mind on my podcast, but will put more thought behind my dialogue moving forward.” View Slideshow: 13 Times Vanderpump Rules Was Like Mean Girls

19 Most Explosive Celebrity Scandals of 2017

2017 has been quite the year for the celebrity world.  In a scandalous sense, that is. From misguided commercial ideas to very serious sexual harassment allegations, scroll through the biggest scandals of 2017 below… 1. The Fall of Harvey Weinstein Harvey Weinstein was accused of sexual misconduct in damning reports in the New York Times. In the aftermath, things got worse when more than 50 women came forward with their women came forward with allegations of rape, assault and sexual harassment against the disgraced movie mogul. The chain of events set off the #MeToo movement in which people took to social media to reveal their own experiences. 2. Kevin Spacey’s Career Drops Like a House of Cards It’s hard to believe that Kevin Spacey was once seen as one of the finest actors in the business. With several awards under his belt and rave reviews for much of his projects, the only way was down. Star Trek: Discovery star Anthony Rapp alleged that Kevin made unwanted sexual advances towards him at a party in 1986. Rapp was 14 at the time of the incident while Spacey was 26. In the aftermath, Kevin thought it would be a good idea to apologize while claiming not to remember the incident. As if that was not bad enough, he confirmed in the same statement that he has been living as a gay man. The world was not impressed. House of Cards was swiftly cancelled by Netflix, and production on the series was placed on hold. Spacey was fired and the show is expected to resume production with Robin Wright taking on the lead role. 3. Kevin Hart: The Adult Movie Star Kevin Hart got hot and heavy with a model in Las Vegas, but his world was turned upside down when it emerged that the whole incident was caught on video and was being shopped to adult entertainment companies. To make matters worse, Kevin’s wife, Enriko was eight months pregnant, but the pair is seemingly still together. Kevin is very likely scared of cameras for life. 4. Kathy Griffin Beheads Her Career Kathy Griffin is well-known for her knack for going too far when it comes to her comedy. Nothing could prepare her for the backlash she received when she posed in a graphic image with a fake head that was supposed to be Donald Trump. She apologized when she was blacklisted by Hollywood, but has since retracted the apology because she seemingly has nothing else to lose. The comedian will likely think twice before thinking about cracking a joke in 2018. 5. DeMario Jackson and Corinne Olympios Shut Down Paradise DeMario Jackson and Corinne Olympios got way too drunk while filming Bachelor in Paradise. Their sex romp was met with a whole lot of controversy when rumors emerged that Corinne was way too drunk to give consent. Production was halted on the series and everyone was sent home. After an investigation, it was found that there was no misconduct on the set. The show later re-entered production and both Jackson and Olympios chose not to return. 6. Corey Feldman Claims His Life is in Danger Corey Feldman has long been open about knowing the names of Hollywood pedophiles who made his life hell as a young star. Things took a turn in October when he said he said he would finally reveal the names of the people. Then, he posted a Youtube video and claimed that his life was in danger. “I had a near-death experience last night where I felt like I was almost going to be killed,” he said. “Two trucks came speeding at me at the same time on a crosswalk.” That incident was not enough to silence the actor. He later alleged that Jon Grissom and Alphy Hoffman were pedophiles. View Slideshow

Under the proposal, Congress examined slavery, its lasting effects, ramifications on future generations, and how the United States should address the issue. He also warned a panel on ABC’s  This Week  about President Donald Trump, when few people saw it coming. Taylor Swift Offers Important Advice to Sexual Assault Victims

On the entertainment front, Taylor Swift had a relatively quiet year. She released a new album and announced a new tour toward the end of 2017, but she remained almost entirely silent for a solid three-quarters of the past 12 months. In front of the camera or on social media, that is. Outside of the music industry, Swift was actually involved in a lawsuit that perhaps helped set the tone for the #MeToo movement. Following allegations that a DJ groped her during a 2013 photo opportunity, Swift testified under oath as part of her harassment lawsuit against David Mueller. She had alleged that Mueller reached under her skirt and grabbed her butt during a meet-and-greet four years ago, an accusation that actually prompted Mueller to sue Swift for defamation. But Taylor refused to back down. First, her testimony and other pieces of evidence caused a judge to dismiss Mueller’s lawsuit . Then, the singer won her countersuit against Mueller , earning raucous praise for how she handled herself on the witness stand amidst a barrage of victim-shaming attempts by Mueller’s lawyer. (“I am not going to allow your client to make me feel like it is any way my fault because it isn’t,” she said at one point to the attorney.) Due to how strongly she stood up for herself and, by extension, other victims of harassment, Swift was included this week on Time’s Person of the Year cover: The issue honors the “Silence Breakers” who have helped exposed an unseemly number of sexual harassers and predators around the country. Asked by the publication why she was so aggressive in her fight against Mueller, Swift replied as follows: “I figured that if he would be brazen enough to assault me under these risky circumstances and high stakes, imagine what he might do to a vulnerable, young artist if given the chance. “It was important to report the incident to his radio station because I felt like they needed to know. “The radio station conducted its own investigation and fired him. Two years later, he sued me.” Swift added that she spoke to Kesha at one point to find out more of what she went through after suing producer Dr. Luke for sexual misconduct. View Slideshow: Time Person of the Year: Who are the “Silence Breakers?” To her fans and anyone else dealing with abuse or harassment, Swift has this to say; My advice is that you not blame yourself and do not accept the blame others will try to place on you. You should not be blamed for waiting 15 minutes or 15 days or 15 years to report sexual assault or harassment, or for the outcome of what happens to a person after he or she makes the choice to sexually harass or assault you. The superstar also praised all the “brave women” speaking out in public about their experiences for helping “move the needle in terms of letting people know that this abuse of power shouldn’t be tolerated.” The #MeToo movement got underway in earnest after Harvey Weinstein was exposed as a serial sexual predator. After Alyssa Milano sent a Tweet that asked women (and men) to use the hashtag #MeToo if they had been the victim of any sort of unwanted sexual act or comment, an endless array of social media users followed suit. As a result, celebrities such as Kevin Spacey, Louis CK, Charlie Rose and Matt Lauer have lost their jobs (and their statuses) in the wake of troubling allegations. We can likely expect more and more famous men to be outed as generally awful people in this regard in the coming weeks and months. It’s depressing and disturbing to learn of these incidents. But it’s clearly about time these perpetrators were held accountable for their despicable actions. View Slideshow: #MeToo: Stars Share Stories of Sexual Harassment, Assault

Chester Bennington’s Widow Curses Off "Scumbag" TMZ

In July, Chester Bennington committed suicide . The loss of the Linkin Park frontman was felt across the music industry, as various artists and stars reacted in shock to Bennington tragically hanging himself at home. The singer had struggled with depression and addiction throughout his life, largely related to being sexually abused as a child. Still, those close to the star say there were no signs of sadness or hints of suicidal tendencies leading up to his death. However, the recent release of a toxicology report proved that drugs and alcohol were in Bennington’s system when he killed himself. Moreover, TMZ reported on Wednesday that  Bennington had previously attempted suicide . In November of last year, the singer got wasted… hog-tied his own arms and legs… and leaped into his pool in an attempt to drown himself. Insiders told the celebrity gossip site that this incident was redacted from the original coroner’s report at the request of Bennington’s widow, Talinda. Which makes sense, right? Why expose such a horrible story to Bennington’s children? The coroner’s office was reportedly split on whether they could or should redact such information, but Talinda cited “marital privilege” as the basis for her ask. It was originally fulfilled, but then TMZ went ahead and revealed the significant tidbit anyway. And Talinda is understandably PISSED about the article. After the retracted information was made public, Talinda Tweeted the following: “Fun fact- When your husband dies by suicide, the LA County Coroner’s office will PARAPHRASE your private conversation with them to dramatize and sensationalize the story and then SCUMBAG FILTH like TMZ post it for the world to feast on. “It was redacted to protect all the kids!” Holding nothing back, Bennington’s widow added: “And now I get to go pull my 11 yr old out of school- because all the kids can use their phones at lunch-to be the first to tell him what REALLY happened in Nov. “Thanks again to SCUMBAG reporting. FUCK YOU TMZ.” The autopsy – which was NOT released in full over the summer – stated Bennington’s official cause of death was suicide by hanging. It added that the Linkin Park singer had a “history of suicidal ideation.” The document also detailed an account of Bennington drunkenly threatening to kill himself in 2006, prior to leaving his house with a gun. It will be interesting to see if TMZ’s actions affect its traffic or bottom line at all. Because many Twitter users are quite peeved at the outlet. To wit: The duty of good journalists isn’t to make news for making money on someones tragedy. @TMZ journalists, screw you, do you have a family???? Do you have parents, friends, childeren? Put yourselves in position of Chester’s wife and their kids? You are so cruel. The website has not yet commented on this controversy. Demi Lovato Slams Time Magazine for Honoring Donald Trump

Demi Lovato has a few questions for Time Magazine. But the singer’s issues with the publication can best be summed up by a single inquiry, one comprised of three letters: WTH?!? On Wednesday, Time editors declared their Person of the Year to actually be a bunch of brave people. Referring to the countless women who have comprised the ongoing #MeToo movement, Time recognized the “Silence Breakers” that have spoken out against sexual assault and harassment. These “Silent Breakers” include stars such as Taylor Swift and Ashley Judd, along with lesser known victims around the country. Said editor-in-chief Edward   in explaining why his magazine made this selection: “This is the fastest moving social change that we’ve seen in decades and it began with individual acts of courage of hundreds of women, and some men, too, who came forward to tell their own stories of sexual harassment and assault.” We totally agree. It’s nearly impossible to find fault in this decision, right? View Slideshow: Time Person of the Year: Who are the “Silence Breakers?” But here’s the thing: Donald Trump was named runner-up. The President (who took home the distinction in 2016) clearly made a huge impact on the world over the past 12 months… but he’s also been accused of sexual assault himself. But over a dozen women. So Lovato is curious how and why Time honored victims of sexual misconduct, while also honoring a man who likely committed an assortment of similar crimes. “I’ve become less vocal about my distain for certain people over the past year because it only divides our country even more but this is worth speaking up about,” Lovato explained in the first of three Tweets on the topic, adding: “@TIME mag – very disappointed in your hypocrisy and disrespect toward the women on your cover… “To be named POTY by @TIME it should be for doing something positive or brave LIKE the women on the cover. It’s annoying that it’s just about impact on the news… “Time mag highlights brave women coming forward against sexual assault on the cover but names a man with sexual assault allegations against him runner up to person of the year.. “Really @TIME? #hypocrites.” Felsenthal did actually address his reasoning for why Trump earned the number-two spot on his list. He told Today yesterday morning: “He’s No. 2 on our list because he has changed the very nature of the presidency and the way the White House functions. “He is on the verge of a first major legislative victory, he’s reshaping the judiciary [system], and aggressively rolling back regulations. The tweet that he sent wasn’t correct. “In fact, we did the photo shoot for the reveal we’re about to [show] five days before the tweet. We didn’t say ‘probably,’ but you know how it goes.” Ah, yes, the Tweet. Late last month, Trump brought up the Person of the Year debate and Tweeted that the magazine told him he was “probably” going to win. “But I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot,” he added. “I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway.” The President was roundly mocked for this lie statement. View Slideshow: #MeToo: Stars Share Stories of Sexual Harassment, Assault
