Just a couple of weeks ago, Dennis Shields was found dead in his Trump Tower apartment. The ex-boyfriend of Bethenny Frankel was 51 years old. His loved ones, including Bethenny, are still coping with the tragic news. Loss is never easy. Now, the Skinnygirl mogul has taken to Twitter to thank her fans and followers for their support — and to admit just how difficult of a time this is. On Sunday, in a carefully condensed tweet, the The Real Housewives of New York City star shared exactly how she is feeling. “It’s hard to breathe,” Bethenny’s tweet begins. Processing a sudden and agonizing loss is never easy. Shields was part of her life for a couple of decades. “And,” her tweet continues. “I appreciate you giving me the space & support to try to do so.” That means that her fans have been, for the most part, respectful and supportive on social media during this very difficult time. Good. But Bethenny is not mincing words when it comes to sharing how she feels. “It’s excruciating,” she admits. Of course it is. Death is always hard, but this situation is especially difficult, as she explains. “Sudden death is no closure,” Bethenny writes. “And,” she continues, she is haunted by “constant questions and memories.” (Bethenny shared this thank you message on social media, giving a succinct shout-out to followers for supporting her emotionally during these trying times) Her tweet continues, making clear that she and Dennis Shields were still very much in each other’s orbits. “Our relationship is current,” Bethenny reveals. It sounds like she means that neither of them were in the other’s past. Sometimes, on-again, off-again relationships are like that. “So,” she explains. “It’s painfully raw.” Of course. Despite everything, she is pushing forward and dealing with her grief. Bethenny writes that she is “trying to stay healthy and move through it.” That is a very healthy attitude. She explains that she is coping “with tears and close friends. Xo” That is absolutely the way to do it. Don’t try to bury your grief or go through this sad journey alone. Mourn together. And surround yourself with people who can help you to process a senseless loss even if they aren’t reeling from it personally. Your friends and loved ones want to support you. Unfortunately, even as Bethenny processes this loss emotionally, it is coming up during her court battle with her vicious ex, Jason Hoppy. In fact, just days after Shields’ passing, Hoppy’s attorney argued that Dennis Shields’ death, which was initially reported as sounding like an overdose, proves that Bethenny is a bad mom . That is, of course, absurd. And not just because Shields’ final words indicate that his death may have been more complicated than people first assumed — featuring a lethal mix of medications in an effort to combat his back pain. This unfortunately adds insult to injury and almost seems like an argument designed to fail in court but upset Bethenny. Even the judge compared the claim about Bethenny’s parenting to a “grenade.” Bethenny is strong and we know that she can get through this. We just hope that it’s as painless as possible.
Carole Radziwil is no longer a member of The Real Housewives family. But the former Bravo star still chimed in this evening in response to a major loss for someone within this family. We’re talking, of course, about Dennis Shields. The 51-year old, known well to The Real Housewives of New York City viewers as the on-again/off-again boyfriend of Bethenny Frankel, was found dead on Friday morning. According to a number of outlets, Shields appeared to have overdosed on prescription pills, with various sources saying he actually asked his assistant to give him a dose of Narcan around 9 a.m. on Friday because he knew something was amiss. Narcan is a drug that is used to combat the effects of an opioid overdose. Sadly, the request came too late. Shields fell unconscious and was pronounced dead a short time later. An autopsy is pending, but it is believed that Shields overdosed on oxycodone. Frankel, who just discussed her relationship with Shields on the latest episode of the aforementioned Bravo series , has not yet commented on this tragedy. But her main nemesis on the program has gone ahead and released a statement. Via Twitter, Radziwill acknowledged Shields’ passing and said the following: I just heard the sad news about Dennis. He was a good man. My condolences to all his family and friends. So tragic. Radzwill is the first of Frankel’s costars to speak on the Shields’ passing. The journalist announced last month that she’s leaving the program after six seasons, telling Us Weekly: “I have decided to return to what I do best: journalism and producing.” Many fans of this franchise believe that Radzwill was either forced out by producers due to her feud with Frankel or left due to this rivalry. Either way, things between Carole and Bethenny have been contentious for a long time now. But an awful event such as this pushes all of that tension to the side. It puts things into perspective. Frankel and Shields starting dating in 2016, about 30 years after they first met. The two stayed in touch over all those decades, eventually getting together at Shields separated from his wife and Frankel divorced Jason Hoppy. The romance was up and down and was often chronicled on The Real Housewives of New York City. On the August 8 installment of this series, Frankel confided in Dorinda Medley, saying she needed a break: “I didn’t say it to Dennis, but in my own mind, I said, ’90 days. I’m not saying a word to Dennis for 90 days.’ It’s a really hard thing to realize that someone you love, it doesn’t mean they’re the right person, “And I wish he was.” Shields was still technically married to his estranged wife Jill at the time of his death. This is what she said soon after the news became public: “We are all heartbroken. Dennis was, and will always be, the love of my life. His spirit lives on in our children. Please respect our family’s privacy at this time.” The NYPD, meanwhile, has confirmed hat “police responded to a 911 call of an aided male inside of 721 5th Avenue. Fat Joe has just turned himself in to prison, reports indicate. The rapper will serve a four-month sentence for tax evasion. He is in custody at the Federal Detention Center in Miami. Fat Joe pleaded guilty back in December to not paying federal income taxes for the fiscal years 2007 and 2008, owing the U.S. more than $1 million. Yes, Joe’s income is high enough that he owes that much in taxes, and yes, Joe declined to pay the bills a la Wesley Snipes, Lauryn Hill , etc. He originally faced up two years in prison, but ultimately was sentenced to just four months and a $15,000 fine, plus a year of supervised release .
