Of all the former Jersey Shore cast members, few have struggled with life post-MTV as much as Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino. The six-packed, self-proclaimed “guido” happily took on the villain role on the popular reality series but found that by the end of the show’s run, viewers and castmates alike had grown tired of his antics. As the pressure of fame and playing the bad guy increased, The Situation fought addiction , did a stint and rehab and looked like he’d been permanently relegated to the “Where are they now?” file. Now, it appears The Sitch will get a second shot at stardom as the TVGN network announced today that they’ve cast Mike and his family in a new unscripted series titled The Sorrentinos. Rumors of a Situation reality show have been circulating for over a year but we’re guessing that Mike ironically became more attractive to producers as his own “situation” worsened. Everyone loves a comeback story, and Sorrentino has plenty to come back from. “We’re excited to take viewers, who met Mike in a very different time and place of his life, and bring them along for this ride with The Sorrentinos,” said the network’s entertainment president, Brad Schwartz. “Family is everything, and it’s something people universally come back to no matter who you are and what you do. Fame just makes the stakes higher and more public.” Network heads say the show will focus on Mike’s efforts to re-build his career and stay sober, all while coping with his eccentric family.

‘At first, I thought that it might have gave me energy. I thought it helped me,’ the ‘Jersey Shore’ star says of prescription painkillers. By Gil Kaufman, with reporting by Sway Calloway The Situation Photo: MTV News When he first began taking prescription painkillers , “Jersey Shore” star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino said the medication helped him deal with the crazy rush of fame he experienced as the show’s stars turned from regular kids to international superstars. But as he told MTV News’ Sway Calloway in an exclusive interview , the crutch quickly turned into a dependence that proved hard to shake. “At first, I thought that it might have gave me energy,” Situation said. “I thought it helped me. Because it’s a painkiller, you’re not tired anymore. Then after a while, you’re like, ‘Oh, wow, maybe this is gonna help my schedule out.’ I’m always on planes, I’m always flying, I’m flying there. I don’t want anybody to feel bad for me at all. I’m just saying that being in this business is not easy, and it’s definitely not for everybody. Sorrentino said he now realizes he made a mistake in choosing pills over the thing that used to keep him pumped up: exercise. And he vehemently denied rumors that there were other substances — such as cocaine, alcohol or marijuana — that fed his addiction. “Strictly painkillers,” he said. “And never even mixed them. … Even on ‘Jersey Shore,’ which obviously people have seen me with a drink in my hand. But I was never drunk. I was the guy that was the ladies’ man. You can’t get girls if you can’t speak to them. Drinking was definitely not an issue for me, for sure.” He described his first day in rehab and the difficulty of dealing with his new reality. “Your first day is detox,” he said of the program he attended. “It’s not a pleasurable experience at all. … In the beginning, for sure, when I was [at the facility] in Utah, I’d wake up and just be extremely disappointed with myself. Like, ‘I can’t believe I got here. How did I get here? Like, I can’t believe this.’ ” Though he didn’t do serious damage to his career, his pocketbook or his family, Sorrentino now realizes that all those things could have happened. “You hear stories all the time of celebrities and people just not even waking up … that could be me, you know?” His biggest fear, though, was that rehab might not stick and he would find himself right back in the same scenario. “That’s exactly what I was thinking,” he said. “The results, your health, your mind, your body, it’s not coming back as quick as you want it to. I’ll be honest, the only thing that comes back quick is your emotions.” After years of blocking out feelings of fear, pain and anxiety, once he began detoxing, Sorrentino all of a sudden began feeling anger, sadness, disappointment, pressure and dismay. “Everything just hits you all at once, and it feels like you’re not going to recover,” he said. “It feels like it’s an impossible deed. Day by day, you’re like, ‘When is it going to get better? When is it going to get better?’ But day by day, it does.” Instead of rolling the ball uphill these days, Mike said it finally feels hopeful that he can make it through this challenge. One of the first things he did after leaving rehab was change his cell number and eliminate the people and places in his life that were familiar in a negative way. “If I don’t do business with you or work with you, I probably don’t talk to you,” he said. When Sway asked if Mike is worried about relapsing, Sorrentino laughed nervously and said, “You’re not supposed to think like that. You’re supposed to take it one day at a time. If all you have to concentrate on is that one day and today and being your best … I think you should be good for that day and you’re not gonna relapse.” Related Videos Exclusive: Mike ‘The Situation’ Speaks

Quite a day for Mike Sorrentino news. First, The Situation left Jersey Shore for unknown reasons, with no return in sight. Now his managers have just filed a $1 million lawsuit, alleging that they were wrongfully dumped after turning a complete nobody into a megastar. Gotham NYC Entertainment filed the suit today, claiming Sitch dumped them back in May “due to lack of performance,” but legally could not. According to the lawsuit, he was contractually required to give Gotham 30 days notice and a chance to correct any issues . Gotham claims it got neither. Therefore, they say, Sorrentino is in breach of contract . Having managed Situation since the 2009 premiere of Jersey Shore , Gotham claims it not only “discovered” the Staten Island product, but transformed “his career from relative obscurity to become an international celebrity.” Gotham is suing for damages in excess of $1 million. No comment yet from the reality star’s camp, which recently settled a legal dispute – with his own dad . It’s also unclear why he bolted the Shore house or whether he’ll return. We’ll have to stay tuned on both fronts … [Photo: WENN.com]

‘Mike has legs, so does a chair — it doesn’t mean the chair can dance, right?’ ‘Jersey Shore’ castmate quips. By Eric Ditzian Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and his partner Karina Smirnoff on “Dancing With The Stars” Photo: ABC Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino barely escaped with his reality-show life Tuesday evening on “Dancing With the Stars.” Only Michael Bolton and his gangly jive saved Sitch’s hide from elimination, as the “Jersey Shore” star will live to toe-tap another week. Perhaps the Situation has one of his castmates to thank, because Ronnie has vowed to vote for his roommate — regardless of his actual dancing talents. “I’m going to support him in every way,” Ronnie told MTV News. “I’m going to send him a text, the vote text. I’ll vote for Mike. “I’ll send, like, three texts — it’s like $1.50,” he added with a sly smile. “How much you really want me to spend on you, Mike?” On second thought, the Situation might want to hold off on a thank-you and tell Ronnie to start texting votes with the same enthusiasm he reserved for flirting with Jell-O-shot-serving waitresses early this season on “Shore.” But Ronnie might not be so convinced Mike has what it takes to win “DWTS.” “Mike has legs, so does a chair — it doesn’t mean the chair can dance, right?” Ronnie reasoned. Ouch. Ronnie’s off-and-on gal pal Sammi was considerably more kind when we asked her about the Situation’s skills. “He can’t really dance, but I know he can fist-pump,” she said during an earlier interview. “We’ll support him,” Vinny told us. And that’s exactly what Ronnie made clear to us too. After all the good-natured razzing he threw the Situation’s way, he told us he’ll be pulling for his roomie to win. “I know he’s going to try his best and do the best of his ability, and he’s going to represent the ‘Jersey Shore’ family,” he said. Are you rooting for the Situation on “Dancing With the Stars”? Let us know in the comments! Don’t miss “Jersey Shore” every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. ‘I promise to try my hardest,’ ‘Jersey Shore’ star says. By Jocelyn Vena Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino Photo: MTV News While the rest of his “Dancing With the Stars” castmates are busy making the press rounds and hitting up rehearsals, “Jersey Shore” star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is missing out while filming his hit MTV show. But don’t feel too bad for him: He knows he’ll be able to play catch-up. “I’m going to lose a couple days practice,” he told People magazine. “But I don’t mind being the underdog. I promise to try my hardest and practice as much as I can and be the best that I can be. I hope the Situation Nation shows up to support me. … I have a ticket or two reserved for Pauly D and Snooki.” The Sitch admits he’s feeling pretty lucky these days, given the fact that, come September 20, when the new season of “DWTS” begins, he’ll be on two hit shows. “It’s pretty unbelievable for me to be on one of the biggest shows on MTV to one of the biggest shows on TV,” he explained. “There’s enough Situation to go around.” Fellow MTV star Audrina Patridge is also looking forward to hitting the floor, even though she has very little professional dancing experience. “I’ll go out with my girlfriends and dance,” the former “Hills” star said. “When I was a little girl, my mom put me and my sister in ballet, jazz and tap.” Another “Dancing With the Stars” newbie, Bristol Palin , spoke to “Good Morning America” on Tuesday (August 31), revealing that her partner is Mark Ballas. More partners are expected to be announced Wednesday on “GMA.” How do you think the Situation will fare on “Dancing With the Stars”? Let us know in the comments below! You may have thought that Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino’s $5 million payday was bad enough already, but OK! is reporting that Dancing with the Stars has convinced him to fist-pump his way over to ABC for the show’s eleventh season. If Sitch’s lawyers are as skilled as Kate Gosselin’s , the Jersey Shore cast member could take home an extra $100,000 per week. Brandy and Audrina Patridge are also allegedly signed up for the next iteration, suggesting that Dancing could land its youngest audience yet. ABC will announce the cast on August 30 live during Bachelor Pad . [ OK ]
