Queen Latifah Says Common Brought ‘Dynamics’ To ‘Just Wright’

‘I could no longer walk out onto a set and look at a bunch of white males,’ Queen says of her producer role. By Jayson Rodriguez Photo: MTV News “Just Wright,” which opened Friday (May 14), is Queen Latifah’s fifth film as a producer. The hip-hop icon says that she tries to make each project reflect her reality — and that’s how Common ended up cast in his first lead role . “Every time that I do a movie, when I get into a position of power and my voice actually meant something, I realized that I could no longer walk out onto a set and look at a bunch of white males,” she told MTV News. “That was just no longer acceptable. I need to see dynamics. I needed to see what I just came out of from walking off the street when I came in here. Where are the women? Where are the people of color? I need to see that in front of me, ’cause I just don’t feel like it’s right.” According to Latifah, Common was the perfect candidate for the role, but the witty MC still had to prove his mettle with the production team. “There’s a difference, man,” Common said about being a leading man. ” ‘Cause I remember, specifically, my first [role] doing ‘Smokin’ Aces,’ I got there at, like, 6 in the morning — I was sitting in the trailer, and I wasn’t thinking about listening to music, ’cause I wanted to stay focused. I was just sitting there focused, and then they called lunch at 12, and I thought, ‘Dang, they ain’t doing the scene yet?’ And then we went back, and then it was 5 o’clock, and they told me they didn’t need me for the day, and I’d been zoning in the whole time! So I’m getting changed, and 20 minutes later they come back, ‘Hurry up, get into the scene.’ That let me know it’s a roller coaster in this thing, and you just got to be prepared. But as a leading man, you’re there, boom, you gotta be working every day.” Latifah said she hopes to continue promoting untapped talent to move up the ladder in Tinsel Town. “If I’m here, if I made it here and I don’t do my part to make sure that the set is more dynamic,” she said, “and I don’t mean hire unqualified people, but go find some qualified people in these areas and make sure when I look up I’m looking at a little bit more of a rainbow around here. ‘Cause that makes me feel better. It makes me feel blessed to be in a position to do it.” Are you excited to see Common star in “Just Wright” with Queen Latifah? Let us know in the comments! Shia LaBeouf Admits He ‘Wasn’t Impressed’ With ‘Transformers’ Sequel

Actor says third outing ‘restores a human element that got lost in the second movie.’ By Adam Rosenberg Shia LaBeouf in “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” Photo: Paramount Last summer’s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” left a fair number of fans and critics disappointed. For all of the slick action and convincing CG effects, a too-strong focus on the alien robots made human stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox feel like supporting players. LaBeouf, who is currently promoting “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” at the Cannes Film Festival, acknowledges the sequel’s shortfalls and promises a more fulfilling experience in July 2011’s “Transformers 3.” “When I saw the second movie, I wasn’t impressed with what we did,” the actor said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in France. “There were some really wild stunts in it, but the heart was gone.” LaBeouf is about to start work on the 2011 sequel, and he’s feeling optimistic about the possibilities. After affirming that he thinks the next outing will be the best one yet, he went on to reveal that the script “restores a human element that got lost in the second movie.” MTV News recently spoke with “Transformers” producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura , who promised a third movie that digs even deeper into the established franchise’s mythology. “We are going to continue to explore the past in the third one and that will continue to inform the present,” he explained. “You try to get as close as you can to the lore, and sometimes you run into pieces where there’s not enough information to make a judgment, so you make you own call.” Fans have been hearing this for some time. Director Michael Bay has a lot of love for the “Transformers” universe, and, as a fan, he wants to do these movies right. Hasbro head Brian Goldner told MTV News as much in an interview earlier this year. “What we’re really doing is getting back to some of the core character development and storytelling. And I think there’s some elements of the core story that the filmmakers, Michael in particular, wanted to tell,” Goldner explained. “He’s really well-versed in the Transformers lore. So I think you’ll see, you know, less bedlam, more characters.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Transformers 3.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Lee Dewyze Supporters Psyched For His Homecoming After Making ‘Idol’ Top Three

Friends, teachers and fans gathered to root Dewyze on in his Illinois hometown Wednesday night. By Gil Kaufman Lee Dewyze fans Photo: Gil Kaufman/ MTV News MT. PROSPECT, Illinois — It’s not that Lee Dewyze’s supporters are feeling cocky, but when they — from his high school principal to the drummer in his band to his old boss at Mt. Prospect Paint — were asked if they’re planning to go to his homecoming parade and rally on Friday, the answer was a resounding, triumphant, “Yes!” And that was days, and hours, before Dewyze got the news on Wednesday night that he would be coming home after making it into the “Idol” top three. When the verdict was finally read, the crowd of 100-plus supporters at the Blues Bar in Mt. Prospect erupted into joyous clapping, shouting, whistles and hugs as they all scrambled to figure out who they needed to call in order to get tickets to Friday night’s big event. “My heart is pounding a hundred miles a minute,” said a teary-eyed Karen Kinnare, who could hardly contain her pride at Dewyze’s success. Her husband, a local general contractor, used to buy paint from Dewyze when the guitar slinger was but a humble paint salesman. And though he’d never seen “Idol” before, when Kinnare was watching auditions earlier this year, her husband came in and yelled, “Hey, that’s my paint guy!” Like just about everywhere MTV News went this week in the area, there were plenty of other people at the bar who knew Lee or his family or who had seen him play at the countless clubs in the area. They packed Blues Bar wearing their bright green “Vote 4 Lee” shirts and pins, waiting breathlessly for host Ryan Seacrest to spill the big news. As they killed time in the Blues Brothers-themed bar, they could buy Lee shirts and buttons — including one that referenced his days as a paint salesman that read “Lee Dewyze Shook My Cans” — as well as copies of his two independently released CDs and delicious homemade cookies imprinted with the “Idol” logo and the plea “Vote for Lee!” from the Central Continental Bakery, which is located just across the street. Bakery owner Marilyn Czerniak said she’s sold more than 5,000 cookies to fans across the country over the past few weeks and proudly showed off a signed photo of Lee holding one of the confections that his mother had brought out to Los Angeles for him. Matt Mika, 25, has known Lee for a while, and like a lot of people in the area, he also had a great story about the “Idol” star’s formative musical years. “The first guitar I’ve ever seen him play was my brother’s guitar in my basement, and that was really one of the first nights he ever played guitar,” said Mika of Dewyze, who didn’t pick up the instrument until he was old enough to drive. “I think he’s going to move on. I don’t think he’s going to have any trouble.” Mika’s friend, mowhawked Mike Musich, 24, who went to high school with Lee, said he was also feeling good about things just before the show kicked off. “Tonight I think it’s going to be the same as usual. I think Lee’s going to coast on through and come home and give us a good show on Friday,” said Musich. Once word broke that Dewyze had made the cut, both men were ecstatic and eager to see their old friend and bask in the glory of his newfound fame. “We’ll be lucky to get two minutes with him,” Mika laughed. Just moments after Dewyze made the cut, Tara Battaglia, 18, was already planning on ditching school on Friday to attend the parade. “I was screaming ‘oh my God,’ I was so excited,” said the teen, who was wearing her bright green “Vote 4 Lee” shirt. “I’m probably not going to go to school on Friday. I’m definitely going to follow him around, go to the Cubs game, watch him throw the first pitch, go to the parade, go to the concert. … I knew he was going to make it.” Her sister, Deanna, 19, was equally excited, but admitted that she got nervous when Seacrest was chatting up the other contestants first. “I was biting my nails, I was so nervous,” she said. “And when they said his name, I screamed and almost fell off my chair.” Earlier in the day, Dr. Patricia Tedaldi-Monti, dean of students at Prospect High School, where Dewyze attended high school before transferring to an alternative school during his senior year, said Lee promised her he’d make it big someday. Surrounded by a variety of Lee-shirts in her office, Tedaldi-Monti recalled the day when the shy teenager who was always tapping out a beat on his desk or leg and playing an imaginary guitar came into her office and told her, “I’m going to be a rock star. “And you [and my other teachers] are going to be in the front row, and I’m going to be playing a really big concert.” She laughed, recalling that she told him, “Well stay in touch, because I’d like to see that really big concert.” And though she counseled him to keep reaching for his dreams while planning for a backup, Lee’s promise is now coming true. “And so, it is going to happen,” she said proudly. “He’s a rock star.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Taylor Momsen is Scary Looking in Hosiery of the Day

I’m not digging Taylor Momsen. Not because she’s under 18 and that would be illegal in most states, but because she’s got a pretty fucking scary looking face that doesn’t really excite me, but kinda makes me want to throw stale bread at her in the park, cuz she’s got some kind of hungry, pre-mature, scraggly bird in the ghetto park feel to her. I am however digging her “Hosiery”. I’ve never been one with a pantyhose fetish. I’ve always hated burlesque and throwback pin-up girls, I’ve never tried to dress my wife up like a stripper from the 50, or a sex scene from an 80s movie, I was always just more into pussy, and the other shit was just distraction, but I’ve been walking down the street a lot the last few weeks because my wife locks me out some days, and I’ve actually seen bitches in shorts, or skirt rockin’ the garter belt, and the thigh highs, and I’m starting to really like the shit out of the bedroom and in the fucking public….So despite Taylor Momsen being skinny the way I like my bitches, today’s post is not to celebrate that about her and remind the fat girls reading that if they cut out 500 calories a day, they will lose a pound a week and 52 pounds in a year, but to remind all girls to put on the pantyhose like a secretary in the 70s, so that I have more reason to live while on the streets. Thanks in advance. Cunt. Pics via Fame

‘Breaking Dawn’ Cast Negotiations Hit A Snag On Two-Film Deal

Sources say Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene and others want raises if ‘Twilight’ film is split in two. By Adam Rosenberg Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz Photo: Tasos Katopodis/Getty Images As “Twilight” super-fans prepare to buy tickets to “Eclipse” when they go on sale this Thursday, Summit Entertainment is reportedly caught up in a little vampire skirmish of its own during negotiations for making the saga’s final chapter, “Breaking Dawn,” into two films. The latest hold-up for the production, which was only recently confirmed for a November 18, 2011 release , is said to stem from salary disputes with several key players in the supporting cast. The Hollywood Reporter ‘s THR Esq. blog reports that the actors who play the Cullen kids, “especially Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene,” are angling for more money. The major names associated with the series are all contractually bound to stay on through “Breaking Dawn,” but new deals are required if the studio splits the story into two movies. At least two actors’ deals are confirmed: Peter Facinelli, who plays Cullen patriarch Carlisle, and Billy Burke, who plays Bella’s father Charlie. Franchise stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner are all in the final stages of securing their deals, which will reportedly grant each of them a big pay bump. Recently confirmed director Bill Condon is locked for two movies, to be shot back-to-back, with the two-part release scheduled for November 2011 and summer 2012. Most troublingly for fans, one source states that drastic measures may be taken if agreements with the supporting cast aren’t reached soon. “We may have a situation where one of them is thrown out on the street to make a point,” said one unnamed person with close ties to the process. For the most part, fans have accepted a cast change for vampire villain Victoria (from Rachelle Lefevre in the first two films to Bryce Dallas Howard in “Eclipse”). But would they be as willing to imagine a “Twilight” world without Ashley Greene or Kellan Lutz? The issue on Summit’s side is purely financial. “Twilight” rolled out into theaters as an indie adaptation of a popular young adult novel; compare this to “Harry Potter,” which was already a blockbuster in the literary world by the time movie adaptation talk started to surface. As the vampire franchise has grown larger, budgets have increased. Supporting stars like Lutz and Greene are very much in demand, so their push for a bigger payday is understandable. Summit has a number of options. The studio could, as stated above, simply throw an actor “out on the street to make a point,” as it did with Lefevre and Howard . The studio could also scale things back and put out “Breaking Dawn” as a single movie. This seems less likely, given the length of the book and the inherent moneymaking opportunity in releasing two popular films instead of just one. Summit is also looking into moving the production. The three previous “Twilight” efforts were shot in Vancouver; the location could change to Louisiana for “Breaking Dawn,” to take advantage of the tax credits that state offers. We hope it doesn’t come to this, but which would you rather see: “Breaking Dawn” as one film with the current cast, or two films with new actors taking over the Cullen roles?
