This has been a pretty rough year in terms of losing our icons, and losing them at ages that are far from what one would consider “old.” After losing George Michael, Ricky Harris and Carrie Fisher in a span of days at the tail end of the year, Twitter users are more than disappointed — they are pretty frightened. People started saying that precautions need to be taken to look out for the icons we have left, whose work we’ve grown up with and followed. Here is a list of stars Twitter users said we need to keep a 24/7 eye on as this disappointing year comes to a close. [ madamenoire ] LaTavia Roberson: I Was Dismissed From Destiny’s Child “And It Wasn’t Pretty” It’s been 19 years since four teen girls from Houston, Texas, came together to form Destiny’s Child, and 16 years since original members LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson were replaced by Michelle Williams, and, briefly, Farrah Franklin, but the pain lives on for Roberson. The 35-year-old has spoken about the hurt of being kicked out of one of the highest-selling girl groups of all time on more than one occasion, but this time Roberson is putting all of her thoughts all in one place: A memoir to be released in the spring of 2017. Of course, we laughed. Kodak Black‘s attention whore radar went off the meters Tuesday when he decided to take a shower on Instagram Live. Apparently, the attention got so overwhelming that he dropped his phone by mistake, we think. The phone conveniently dropped screen-side up, giving his followers a floor up view of Black’s “Lil Kodak.” If you’re into that kind of thing, you can look for yourself here. The people who got assaulted by the image responded immediately while the rest of us were blindsided by the screenshot on our timelines. LaTavia Roberson Says She’s Open To Destiny’s Child Reunion Will there FINALLY be a Destiny’s Child reunio n in 2017? Singer LaTavia Roberson was once singing alongside LeToya Luckett, Beyonce and Kelly Rowland in Destiny’s Child. Unfortunately, the group disbanded amidst tales of bird-beef and jealousy adding to the breakup rumors. LaTavia now tells The Grape Juice that she is open to the idea of a possible reunion years after the group parted ways… A reunion? I’d love to. The feuding which came after the split was hard, but I became a fan of the new line-up after a while and have developed a sisterhood with Michelle Williams. I guess the hard part about a reunion would be logistics. Most of us our mothers now and are raising families so that has to be taken into consideration. I think the right things will happen at the right time. That’s what writing [my] book has taught me…when it’s meant to be it will be. LaTavia later added that she’s matured in the music business: What’s so cool now is that I feel inspired to use the things that I’ve learned in music and in business to develop new artists. I’m not opposed to a solo recording career for myself but I feel more inspired to help other people now. My taste in music is so eclectic and I want what I end up doing to reflect that. I love Dance music and soulful music as well as a lot of alternative stuff and so I’m really considering using all the things I love about those genres to introduce new artists to the world to make more of that kind of music. Writing the book has reminded me that I have so much to offer and I’d like to help others. Read the entire interview HERE .
This past Sunday we teamed up with Black Celebrity Giving for their 4th Annual SUNDAY SOUL ATL event to spread positive vibes, fellowship and feed hundreds of displaced men, women and children in downtown Atlanta. BCG, Bossip, Pretty Girls Give Back, along with celebrity guests Kap G and famed singer LaTavia Roberson, volunteered to spread some holiday cheer and provide holiday meals with (wait for it) beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes… YEW NAAAAME IT! Holidays are always a tough time for people experiencing homelessness and this is our way of giving back. This year, we switched it up, served as a wait staff and brought our guests 3-course meals to their tables. In addition to the delicious Thanksgiving feast, CEI Barber & Hair School provided free haircuts and hairstyles to the men, women and children. Big shouts to DJ O Baby for keeping the energy up during the event. Kap G & crew helped put together swaggy goody bags that included necessities like soap, toilet paper, toothpaste, warm mittens, condoms & more! Special thanks to BlackCelebrityGiving.com and Jasmine Crowe for inviting us to be apart of the always amazing Sunday Soul series.
