In a new interview with InStyle , the singer is asked about her take on romance and the fact that she pens so many songs about ex-boyfriends. “There are no rules when it comes to love,” she says. “I just try to let love surprise me because you never know who you’re going to fall in love with. You never know who’s going to come into your life – and for me, when I picture the person I want to end up with, I don’t think about what their career is, or what they look like. I picture the feeling I get when I’m with them.” But have the failed relationships taken a toll on her outlook? Dampened Swift’s aspirations for love? No way, she says. “I’m really a daydreamer… When it comes to ‘happily ever after,’ I always have a tendency to write a happy ending to my songs. That’s probably wishful thinking on my part.”

Simon Cowell has confirmed that Mariah Carey will be involved in his new televised singing competition, The X-Factor . Mariah’s role in the show has yet to be fully determined. “I think Mariah will have a role on the TV live shows,” Cowell confirmed to radio personality Jackie Brown. “I met her recently and she was on great form. And her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with. She’ll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits.” Music industry exec, L.A. Reid , who was recently announced as a judge on The X-Factor , oversaw Mariah Carey’s recent comeback that began with her multi-platinum The Emancipation Of Mimi album in 2005. The hip hop star will not judge The X-Factor , but Simon Cowell himself sounds very close to naming the former Pussycat Doll as the second judge on his upcoming singing competition. “I want her to do it, but we’ve got to get the deal done and find someone she has chemistry with,” Cowell tells TV Guide. “I absolutely adore her. She was fantastic on the U.K. X Factor and I’m hopeful it will happen.” Cowell says Cheryl Cole is in the mix and also explains his connection to L.A. Reid , who has been confirmed for the panel. “I met him approximately fifteen years ago when he’d launched Pink for the first time. He put on a show and got every single person in the room to believe this person was a star. The way he presented her with his passion drew me to him and was a big part of why I chose him to be on the show. A “yes” or “no” from L.A. Reid should really mean something to the contestants.”
