David Guetta Wants To Drop Dance Beats On Rihanna’s Next LP

The superstar French DJ/ producer tells MTV News he and the pop diva have discussed a collaboration. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Matt Elias and Akshay Bhansali Rihanna Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images When Rihanna released her Rated R last fall, she showed fans that she was in a darker, more serious mood. Tracks like “Russian Roulette” and “Hard” were decidedly more introspective than her past club bangers. But if superstar French DJ David Guetta has his way, he’ll have Rih back to singing tunes like her mega-hit “Umbrella.” “Well, you know I’m a DJ, so I make beats that make you wanna dance,” Guetta told MTV News at the Activision E3 party in Los Angeles. “And I think she was one of the first to do that in that urban world, so you know, I think it would be good for her to do it again.” While the producer already has some material in mind for the pop star, he said it was just a matter of scheduling. “We[‘re] thinking of doing something together, yes,” he revealed. “Yeah, yeah, yeah [the beat’s ready], we just have to make sure it’s okay with her schedule and my schedule cause we … this is what happens. Unfortunately, it’s not only about the music anymore, it’s also about schedules, which is really boring but, you know.” Dutch DJ/ producer Afrojack has also gotten behind the boards, Guetta said, crafting what he hopes will be the next big Rihanna hit. “Like, he was in the studio with me the first time [after] he finished the new song for Rihanna,” Guetta recalled of Afrojack. “He was like, ‘Oh, my God! You gotta hear this! It’s crazy!’ I was expecting some crazy club sh–. He played me that track and it was a good track. I think pop-wise it’s a fatter sound. Musically, it’s as high a level as RedOne, Lady Gaga’s producer.” Rihanna has been vocal about bringing up the energy level on her next album. ” Rated R, I love the sound of it, in terms of the bass,” Rihanna told MTV Korea in February. “I really like the bottom, the grime of it. But if I were to combine that with more energetic, up-tempo pop records, then I think that will be a happy marriage. And that’s where we’ll probably go next.” Where would you like to see Rihanna go musically on her next album? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Rihanna David Guetta

Eminem Surprises E3 Crowd With Guests Travis Barker, Rihanna

Rapper headlined Activision concert that included Usher, Will.I.Am, Jane’s Addiction and others. By Matt Elias Eminem performs at E3 on Monday Photo: Chris Weeks/ Getty Images LOS ANGELES — Eminem performed an electrifying set at Activision’s E3 party on Monday night, crushing any doubts that he had lost his touch since his long hiatus from the rap game. The Detroit MC headlined a massive bill that included Usher, Will.I.Am, N.E.R.D., Jane’s Addiction, Chris Cornell, David Guetta, Deadmau5 and DJ Z-Trip. Em’s set kicked off with his first surprise of the night at the Staples Center, with Travis Barker jumping behind the drums for an acrobatic drum solo. Em joined him moments later (flanked by D12’s Denaun Porter), taking the stage just before midnight. He was decked out in a black jacket, black jeans and a silver crucifix hanging around his neck. With Em, Barker, Porter and a live band all onstage, the crowd was up on its feet right from the get-go. The six-song set began with “Won’t Back Down,” off of Recovery, which Em just announced would be released on June 21, a day earlier than originally planned . From that moment, there was an energy in the arena that could be felt from the floor all the way up to the luxury suites. Eminem followed with a couple of his recent features — one from B.o.B’s “Airplanes (Part II)” and the other from Drake’s “Forever.” As Drake’s chorus blared, Eminem marched down the stage’s catwalk, chanting “Bounce, bounce, bounce.” He was clearly on his game, bobbing and weaving while he delivered his verses. All of this was punctuated by Barker’s thumping drumbeats, which made it feel more rock show than rap show. After three songs, Eminem addressed his adoring crowd, shouting, “Los Angeles! What the f— is up? Make some motherf—ing noise!” As if he had to ask, Staples Center erupted in ovation. Em then dedicated his next song, “Not Afraid,” to all of the fans that have stuck by his side over the years. His live band was joined by a full orchestra on both sides of the stage. If that wasn’t enough, later in the song, Eminem was joined by an entire gospel choir that numbered in the dozens. Then Eminem sprung his next surprise. “Before I get into this next song,” he said, “I wanna bring out a very special guest.” After a few moments, Barbadian beauty Rihanna appeared onstage with a bright crop of candy-apple-red hair. The duo got right into “Love the Way You Lie” — another new song off the upcoming Recovery. Em and Ri had great chemistry onstage, taking turns sauntering down the catwalk and passing glances at each other throughout the performance. As the song ended, the show seemed to be over. Eminem thanked the crowd and exited the stage. His band stayed on, however, and slowly started playing the opening notes of “Lose Yourself.” As the song built, Eminem stormed back onto the stage and the crowd (as if they could get any louder) exploded. As he ripped through the song, the crowd grew even more excited, with Porter serving as the hype-man. Finally, as the song finished, a shower of gold confetti rained down on the crowd marking the show’s end — but not without its share of surprises. Danica Patrick Takes ‘Blur’ For A Spin Before Indy 500

NASCAR star says she likes the less-realistic features of the Activision game. By Russ Frushtick Danica Patrick Photo: MTV News When athletes from the car-racing world get involved in video games, they’re almost invariably attached to ultra-realistic racing simulations (usually with NASCAR sponsorships). Danica Patrick, the IndyCar-turned-NASCAR driver, decided to participate in a very different sort of game. “Blur” is about as unrealistic as you’ll find in the video game space, and yet, considering her larger-than-life image, it seems like a perfect fit for Patrick. Patrick appears in Activision’s racing game as one of the final “boss fights,” races against particularly tough opponents with hefty rewards on the line. Speaking with MTV News, she mentioned that it was actually the game’s lack of intense realism that appealed to her in the first place. Patrick had never been involved in a video game before because, according to her, “They didn’t really trip my trigger.” She went on to admit that she’s “not a huge gamer,” but she found “Blur” extremely easy to play. “I don’t know if you’ve played many racing games before, but they’re hard to play sometimes. I’m crashing all the time, it’s not very fun. With ‘Blur,’ it’s much easier to use than that. They’ve made it challenging by adding things like power-ups and stuff in the game that help you to get an edge on people, but it’s generally easy to use right off the get-go.” In terms of tactics, Patrick said that it really just comes down to picking the right car for the right track. “Some are loose, some are very loose, some are balanced,” she explained. “But that’s really the extent of what you need anyway. I mean, I don’t even know how to set up my car, I don’t know how anyone else does.” “Blur” is definitely unique in the racing space. At first glance, it appears to be a hard-core racing sim, with authentic-looking cars and tracks. But once the race starts, the differences are blatant. Power-ups are scattered throughout tracks, allowing players to blast opponents off the road, earning extra points. The racing physics are pretty forgiving as well, so players can take turns at top speed without having to worry too much about a spin-out. Despite the realistic visuals, the closest cousin to “Blur” is actually “Super Mario Kart,” which Patrick has some familiarity with. “Who didn’t play Nintendo when it came out? It was like the coolest thing that ever happened to children, I think. So I had Nintendo and I played ‘Super Mario Kart.’ ” Here’s hoping she’s retained her “red shell” knowledge all these years. That sort of edge can do wonders for her when she competes in the Indy 500 this weekend. For more on “Blur,” check out Mutliplayer.MTV.com .

Ex-Infinity Ward Leaders To Discuss Their "Creative Future" Soon

What’s next for Jason West and Vince Zampella, the former heads of Infinity Ward? We may have the answer soon. The duo’s lawyer released a statement to the LA Times that promises an “announcement very soon” that directly addresses the “creative future” of both developers. The statement pushes back at Activision’s lawsuit and paints Zampella and West in a positive light during the now-past negotiating phase with their former publisher. “Activision itself proposed spinning off Infinity Ward when, last year, it sought to renegotiate Jason and Vince’s contract,” reads the statement, “and induce them to forego developing a new game in favor of doing another Modern Warfare sequel. Jason and Vince had hired the Creative Artists Agency to advise them in their negotiations with Activision, and not to breach their contract.” Activision alleges West and Zampella were conversing with the company’s “closest competitor,” widely believed to be Electronic Arts. Whether the upcoming announcement is connected to EA is anybody’s guess, but it wouldn’t be the first time Activision and EA went head-to-head.

Infinity Ward Loses Two More — One Lead Designer, One Software Engineer

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward, who recently lost leadership over an internal dispute with publisher Activision that’s now in litigation, has last two more employees. Kotaku originally broke the news, citing the Linkedin profiles of lead designer Todd Alderman and software engineer Francesco Gigliotti . Both Linkedin profiles reflect working at Infinity Ward as part of their “past” employment status. Neither has updated with their future plans. Alderman has worked at Infinity Ward for more than eight years. Gigliotti had been at the studio for nearly as long, clocking in just under eight years with the Modern Warfare developer. It’s unclear if Alderman and Gigliotti have left as a consequence of former Infinity Ward studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West leaving. An internal Activision memo obtained by G4 indicated Activision suspected Zampella and West were in conversations with Electronic Arts. I’m a little late on reporting this one, but I wanted to make sure G4 readers were aware of the latest developments. Keep your eyes on G4 for more, as the status of Infinity Ward changes. Gwen Is Angry And There’s No Doubt About It

Gwen Stefani and her band No Doubt are suing the makers of the Guitar Hero video game series. In a new lawsuit filed in LA County Superior Court, the band claims that Santa Monica-based Activision, the maker of the virtual-reality game Band Hero, has far exceeded the contractually approved use of the names or likenesses of Stefani and No Doubt band members Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young. The group also claims that Activision “transformed No Doubt band members into a virtual karaoke circus act by having them sing, dance and perform over 60 songs”.
