‘HTGAWM’ Recap: Nate’s Master Plan Might Be Brilliant After All

Source: Richard Cartwright / Getty Annalise is now roped into Nate’s plan to pin his father’s murder on the governor. Tonight’s episode of How to Get Away With Murder finds her trying to keep him out of jail. The feds have him pegged as a suspect, especially since he is unhinged and acting erratically. Things get worse when Asher tells Annalise that he’s not the only one who knows that Nate killed Ron. In other words, her kids know too since Asher’s punk arse snitched. Nate has been doing his own sleuthing, as we know. He meets with one of the jurors from his father’s death case to get the scoop. The juror tells him they made a ruling based on evidence they got in a packet from the bailiff. Shady boots. Basically, Miller may have given the jury fake evidence and Nate got a copy of it. Gabe ends up getting questioned about the voicemail he left for Miller. You remember the whole, “I screwed up, they found out who I am” bit. He claims he was helping Miller investigate Annalise because they thought she was involved in a lot of criminal activity. He says he hadn’t seen Miller in two months. The examiner then specifically asks, “So you didn’t see him at the wedding?” and he lies. This is not going to go well. Hold that thought. Nate presents the potentially fake evidence to Annalise and the theory that Miller tampered with it. Annalise tells him he doesn’t have concrete proof and that he’s digging his own grave as a suspect. Nate tells her to either have his back or get out. What do you think she did? Meanwhile, Bonnie is struggling with her guilt over helping to kill Miller. Like, struggling struggling, to the point where she tries to kill herself. She sits in her car in a garage and tries to let the carbon monoxide take her out. Luckily Frank finds her, realizes what’s going on and stops it. Finally, we get to the moment when Nate is questioned by the feds. Annalise calls him to see where he is. She offers to come down to help but he tells her not to because she can’t come near this. Annalise implores him not to answer their questions but this is part of his master plan. He let them take his DNA so that they can run it against the gun they claim had his father’s DNA—you know, the gun they said his dad tried to grab. Fast forward a bit, and we find out that the feds investigating Nate gave Tegan an immunity deal for..we don’t know but she’s up to something too. Finally, we cut to Annalise telling her kids that Nate had a smart plan to pin the crime on the gov and that she needs them on board. Annalise deciding to go along with Nate’s plan might have something to do with the next scene. It’s Nate meeting with the feds again. This time they tell him that he was right because his DNA doesn’t match that on the gun so someone did tamper with evidence! Then they say they have someone in custody in connection with the crime. Now we cut back to Annalise. She gets a call from prison saying they have someone in custody who claims she’s their lawyer. You guessed it, it’s Gabriel. He got himself in a world of trouble. Next week we find out exactly why he was arrested. Because you know there’s always twists and turns. ‘HTGAWM’ Recap: In Case You Didn’t Know How Toxic Sam Was

View original post here:

Source: Nicole Wilder / Getty How to Get Away With Murder is back from winter break, and tonight’s episode is depressing, but what else is new? Anyway, we revisit Annalise’s trauma from losing her baby. Last season ended with Nate beating Miller to death and Bonnie finishing the job by smothering him as he tried to cling to consciousness. Bonnie is distraught and the only person comforting her right now is Frank. Frank mentions that Gabriel knows her ex is dead and they need to figure something out. Of course, Frank calls Annalise to ask her to talk him through the whole thing and Annalise basically tells him, “Nope!” She has a whole ‘nother demon to deal with. Gabriel broke into her house demanding answers about Sam. Annalise pours him a drink and tells him everything. She tells him that she’s not the reason his mom and Sam broke up, that Sam abandoned his mother before he was born (and lied to Annalsie), and then she reveals that Wes killed Sam and even plays what’s supposed to be an audio confession. Gabriel doesn’t seem to want to let it go. Throughout the episode, Annalise convinces him to move on from the past and even says, “It’s better to have a dead father than a bad one.” Ouch But you can’t blame her. Because this entire episode incorporates flashbacks of Sam being awful, but hold that thought. Laurel informs the crew that Gabriel is Sam’s son. They’re all disturbed by this revelation because they think he’s investigating Sam’s death so they’re trying to figure out what to do. But of course, they jump to conclusions and assume he’s dead already, especially when Michaela mentions seeing blood on Bonnie’s leg at the wedding, and  the fact that they haven’t seen him in a while (but we know where he is). Later on, they reach out to Frank to see if he killed Gabe, but Frank tells them to stop panicking and that he’ll probably turn up in the morning. Then we flashback to Annalise and Sam returning from the hospital after her c-section. Sam helps her get in bed and pretty much abandons her. He looks up a Vivian Maddox in Chicago and gives her a call. In case you haven’t figured it out, that’s the woman he abandoned. She doesn’t answer the phone but he leaves an apology message, talmbout how he wants to meet his son and how he misses her and how they were together and how he never stopped loving her. Later on, Annalise tells Frank she wants to adopt a baby and he’s adamantly against it. They get into a screaming match and Sam says she won’t adopt if she wants to stay married to him. Annalise says she’s going through with it with or without him. He says then it will be without him and leaves. He was going to leave anyway, but being an emotionally abusive prick makes it easier for him to storm off. This fool actually goes to Chicago. He lies and tells Annalise that he’s going to spend some time with his sister. Vivian’s mom greets him after he knocks on the door and tells him to go away if he really wants to do what’s right, but on his way out he runs into 11-year-old Gabriel coming back from playing outside. He’s holding his basketball and the only exchange they have is Sam asking if he’s a Bulls fan. The answer is yes. Hopefully, that was the day Gabe learned to be like Mike, not Sam. Annalise’s kids know by now that Gabriel is alive but they’re concerned that he’s trying to find new evidence in the Sam case that he can bring to the DA. Asher says they’ll be okay because they have friends in the da’s office, specifically citing Miller…who they don’t know is dead. Of course, they have good reason to be suspicious of Gabe! Hold that thought. Annalise tries to kill herself after learning that her bid for adoption didn’t go through. She calls Frank, who doesn’t answer the phone, surprise, and begs him to come home, but he’s trash. It’s actually Bonnie who finds her unconscious from an overdose on pain pills and subsequently saves her life. Frank confronts Sam when he finally returns home and gives him a piece of paper. Sam wants to know how Frank got ahold of if and Frank says he knows all about Sam’s Lying King shenanigans and tells him to just get rid of it and be the husband Annalise needs. Sam finds Annalise and pretends to care. The episode ends with us hearing Sam’s voice reading an email, the same email that Frank printed out and handed to him. It’s an apology letter to Vivian for abandoning she and her son and all that jazz. He basically repeats all the stuff he said about still loving her, etc. Nate finally reappears during this montage. He heads to Bonnie’s house and tells her not to feel bad—that Miller’s death is his fault. Next, Gabriel calls someone and says he screwed up because they found out who he is. But again, we knew he was the ops. Now it’s a matter of figuring out who he’s working for. Finally, Annalise’s ex-girlfriend, Eve, comes to visit Frank in the past, hands him the email and says she needs his help. We have no idea how she got it, but then we cut to the future where Eve has given Annalise the email and says Sam never deserved her. I mean, she’s not wrong. ‘HTGAWM’ Recap: Nate Digs Up Another Bone From Bonnie’s Graveyard Of Secrets

More here:

Source: Joshua Blanchard / Getty How to Get Away With Murder picks up back at Connor and Oliver’s wedding. We’re in the bathroom with Bonnie and Michaela. Michaela is lowkey freaking out about the blood on Bonnie’s leg and asks whose blood it is. Bonnie says, “Relax, I cut myself shaving,” as calmly as she can, but we all know what universe this is and we know Bonnie is lying. Now we cut back two months before that. Nate is still trying as hard as he can to see who the woman is, in the surveillance photo he has, kidnapping baby Gabriel. He zooms in and it looks a lot like Bonnie. Meanwhile, Annalise is giving a lecture to her students detailing the traits of a psychopath. This relates to her new client, Niles Harrington, a wealthy CEO accused of murdering his business partner. Niles is a controversial character who wrote a book called, “The CEO Psychopath,” and not a lot of people are fond of him in general. Obviously, the book isn’t flying too well in court, so the prosecutor is running with the whole psychopath angle. However, Annalise is on it because that’s what she does. She’s working co-counsel with her boss, but so far so good. That is until one of the witnesses, Nile’s secretary, changes a statement she made earlier which makes her look shady. As a result, Annalise is pushing to try to pin this crime on her. Niles doesn’t want to (because she wouldn’t hurt a fly according to him) but we know how Annalise does. In related news, Asher is interning at the DA’s office for prosecutor Ron Miller, who just so happens to be the prosecutor on Annalise’s case. As a result of Asher being salty that Annalise didn’t accept him into her clinic, he tells Miller what Annalise’s next move would be (pinning it on the secretary), and convinces Miller to believe him. That’s not hard give that has spent so much time with Annalise. Later on, Miller tries to make a deal with Annalise that could help both of them out, but in the end, Annalise decides not to take it because it would screw her boss over. Eventually, Annalise thinks Niles killed his associate because he was sleeping with his wife and then we get to the plot twist. Nile’s wife killed the associate but he refuses to let her go down for it and legit threatens to kill them before he allows either of them to blow up his wife’s spot. So, the next defense play is saying that Nile’s business partner accidentally killed himself by asphyxiation. There’s a belt in question here, so they have the secretary try it on and it fits. Niles tries it on and it doesn’t fit, and you already know he just had to make an OJ Simpson reference: “If it doesn’t fit you must acquit!” That outburst is just one of a couple of instances that demonstrate the arrogance that makes people not like this man. Annalise put together a stunning but the jury still finds Niles Harrington guilty. Annalise, her boss, Niles, and his wife are all looking like… Niles mentions that it’s because the jury hates him and has bias due to the book. This is true because it really seemed like he was about to get off. Annalise still tries to convince him to turn his wife in because she only killed his business associate because she was worried about the money she would lose if he left the company but Niles won’t do it. He’s too soft and pink for her. The only hope now is a retrial due to bias and that’s that for now. Nate finds the attending nurse who was present on the night the baby was kidnapped and gets her to talk. Basically, Bonnie’s father was trying to leave the baby to become a ward of the state (because it was the product of him sexually exploiting his teenage daughter) but Bonnie later on panicked and said she had a change of heart and that she wanted to do the right thing but her dad wouldn’t let her be great. Nate shows her the photo of Bonnie and the woman confirms that issa match! So, we can assume Bonnie kidnapped her own baby and the nurse allowed it to happen because she also felt like she was doing the right thing. Nate takes this information to Annalise and says he didn’t want to say anything until he had receipts. Annalise starts shaking her head because it turns out that Bonnie didn’t kidnap her baby. It was Bonnie’s sister. PLOT TWIST! And now we cut back to Connor and Oliver’s wedding. This is after the bathroom incident so Bonnie (or possibly her sister) is back in the crowd. Michaela is back in the crowd but she keeps glancing at Bonnie/Bonnie’s sister because something doesn’t feel right and Oliver is being called to the dance floor but he’s missing. Yeah, we’re all confused! Is this Bonnie’s twin or are they supposed to be the type of sister that just look a hell of a lot alike? ‘Scandal’ Recap: Fitz Makes An Awkward Return to Washington DC

Link:

Source: Richard Cartwright / Getty Tonight’s episode of Scandal b egins with, you guessed it, a scandal. It’s not major, at least for now, but it could be something if the secret gets out. Basically, Olivia Pope has been getting it in with Curtis, the conservative journalist/commentator who gave her a hard time on his show about Mellie’s education bill. He is cute, so it’s hard to blame Olivia, but he’s starting to catch feelings. He has been complaining about how she’s so secretive about their affair. This translates to Liv as wining, and you know Olivia ain’t about that life. via GIPHY Olivia is trying to convince Cyrus to woo a billionaire tech mogul (a potential donor). Mellie is trying to woo President Rashad, the dictator for Bushran (if you saw last week’s episode), into a nuclear arms treaty (and apologize for spying on him). All of this is lead up State Dinner. Olivia is trying to make Mellie look good so landing the treaty and major donors are big wins. Mellie’s meeting with President Rashad doesn’t go well at all. Mellie turns up her charm, but the dictator sees through it, calls her a hypocrite, and says that he’ll remove nuclear weapons from his country when the countries that have the most do so first. *coughs* America. Yup, that was shade to the US. via GIPHY Now we’re at the State Dinner. Olivia is working hard to make sure no one embarrasses Mellie. All the usual suspects are present, even President Rashad, who makes a grand entrance with Mellie. They keeping up appearances and make it look like they’re getting along, but President Rashad is still not agreeing to the treaty. He feels like it would make him look weak and even put him at risk of assassination. He comes from a conservative Muslim country, and Mellie, well, you know, Murica. But that’s cool because Olivia is working on plans B-Z (with Jake’s help). via GIPHY Meanwhile, Cyrus is working on the tech billionaire. It doesn’t go too well, because the tech dude is a jerk, but it pans out in the end. This part of the storyline isn’t super major (at least not for now). Back to Olivia. She gets President Rashad alone and mentions that she’s aware that his niece is majoring in gender studies in the US. That sort of thing–you know, women getting an education–don’t go over well in President Rashad’s country, so he changed her name. Olivia confronts with this information thinking that if he did this for his niece, then there’s some sort of humanity in him. She begs him to sign the treaty. This pisses him off even more. He’s upset that Olivia spied on him and that he didn’t listen to the people warned him about her. He denies the treaty request, once again. The tables turn later on, though. Basically, another dignitary requests a private talk with President Rashad, claiming that Mellie Grant sent him. It turns out that the man is an assassin. President Rashad thinks it’s the US coming for him, but the man is actually Rashad’s fellow countryman. The assassin gets ready to shoot, but Olivia and Jake got the drop (thanks to a tip from Curtis) so they sent their people to dead that. Luckily for President Rashad and Olivia, the assassination attempt is thwarted just in time.   via GIPHY President Rashad says he knows who may be behind this. Mellie and Liv offer conditional help and finally convince him to sign the treaty, but only if they help him with his country’s biggest enemy (and the people who probably also sent an assassin to try to kill him.   Mellie asks Olivia to give her time alone with President Rashad and she agrees. Not long after, Rashad tells Mellie that his niece actually has Mellie’s picture hanging up on her wall. He calls Mellie extraordinary and then says it’s an honor sitting next to her. Mega progress.   He leaves and says he looks forward to working with her. The episode ends with Olivia and Curtis making out and preparing to enter Olivia’s apartment for some hot steamy loving, but their steamy session is interrupted by Fitz, who’s standing there waiting for Olivia to come home. He just wasn’t prepared for company. He eeks out an awkward, “Hello,” and tries to keep his voice even, but you know he’s raging inside. Liv and her boo thang just stand there looking like: via GIPHY We knew Fitz would be back. He always come back. Let’s face it, he is Olivia’s one true love. We’ll see where this goes next week. ‘HTGAWM’ Recap: Annalise Keating Is Still Fighting For The Underdogs

See more here:

Source: Gilles Mingasson / Getty How to Get Away With Murder picks up with another flashback, so we don’t know whose body Annalise has to identify. Remember Laurel’s request of Michaela from last week? It was to take the internship at Kaplan and Gold (the firm that represents Laurel’s father) so she can get dirt on Laurel’s dad and help take him down for killing Wes. Michaela is not with it. She’s scared to move forward with this because she doesn’t want anymore scandals, but part of her also doesn’t believe it. However, Kaplan and Gold is one of the best firms ever, so you know Michaela is not about to turn down that internship. But helping Laurel is still up in the air. via GIPHY Annalise is broke and needs a job, so she continues on the freelance track and picks up a case from a Chief Public Defender named Virginia. In case you didn’t know, public defenders are over worked and underpaid and tend to have backlogs of cases so Annalise’s help is welcome here. The defendant is accused of killing his child’s mother, but he says he’s innocent. He has been in jail for 12 years and Annalise is determined to get him out (you know she loves looking after broken people). He was never 100% clear about what happened that night, but Annalise demands he tell the truth. He reveals they had a fight because she told him their daughter wasn’t his. He went on a rage, calling her all kinds of names and then she jumped out the window, but he’s accused of pushing her. Annalise is trying present the narrative that she killed herself in court. This trial is his appeal. It’s imperative that Annalise win otherwise he’s going to rot in jail. Anyway, Nate gets called to the stand because he was an investigator on the case. Surprise! via GIPHY (Shirtless pic just because, hi). Annalise lowkey freaks out because you know the backstory. Even more frustrating is that Annalise is forced to cross examine him, and it’s as awkward as you might think because she goes ham on him, trying to make him seem like he didn’t do his job properly. Back to Michaela. She discovers that she’s not going to get handed the Kaplan and Gold spot easily because do tournaments with their potential interns. Potential, as in all the people chosen are just the top candidates in the pool, but they’re not official yet. So, they must all compete in a trivia showdown by answering questions about the firm. These are not easy questions and only one will remain. Michaela is about that life so she goes in. Later on, Nate hits up the DA’s office, frustrated with Annalise and tells Bonnie that if she wants to “get that Annalise stank off of her,” then she’ll do him a favor, but we don’t know what that is just yet. You know it’s going to be petty, though, right? via GIPHY Then Annalise runs into Laurel in the bathroom. Laurel immediately starts acting stank and starts slick-talking Annalise, insinuating that she ruins everyone’s lives. She mentions that she and Asher are still looking for internships, and Connor dropped out of law school. But, why do these kids hate Annalise when they started all of this? They’re the ones who got into it with Annalise’s husband, because they couldn’t leave well alone, which ended up leading to his death. And Annalise covered it up to help protect them! I digress. via GIPHY Anyway, Nate and Bonnie’s plan is to hire Oliver to hack into Annalise’s voicemail to find anything they can that could help the case. Connor ends up finding a voicemail containing the confidential conversation between Annalise and her defendant where the defendant reveals that they fought because his girlfriend told him that their child isn’t his. Basically, Nate took a page out of Annalise’s book. Let’s cut to court. Due to Nate’s new info that he passed on, the prosecutor demands a DNA test because this information was omitted. Now Virginia is threatening to take the case back from Annalise and just as Annalise finishes this call, as she walks to her car, she finds Bonnie and Nate chatting. It’s confrontation time! She says she gets why Nate would do what he did, but not Bonnie. Bonnie is being super cold  and smug, so Annalise attempts to beat that arse. Nate claims it’s all him who did it, but Annalise doesn’t buy it. However, luckily for Bonnie, Nate manages to keep Annalise from delivering that fade. via GIPHY Then Annalise gets a phone call from the morgue. The body they wanted her to identify turns out to be that of Jasmine Bromel. via GIPHY via GIPHY We really wanted her to win. Sigh. It’s an overdose. via GIPHY Annalise is triggered so she goes to her counselor to talk. Later on, she discovers that someone dropped off some footage (taken by an ATM machine) at her door. She calls Frank to see if he did it because he’s the only one who knows where she lives. He says it’s not him but he can find out who did it. Isn’t it ironic that he’s the only one still loyal to her? Anyway, the footage shows the defendant’s girlfriend jumping out of the window! She did kill herself after all. But like, who would hold on to such footage for 12 years? We’ll get that answer in a sec. Frank discovers that the person who delivered the footage is someone who has been screwing Virginia, the Chief Defender. Nate and Bonnie hope that Annalise would ask for continuance with the case, but nope, she got that fire now!  In court, Annalise is forced to call Virginia to the stand as a hostile witness. The footage is rolled and then she demands to know why she never presented the footage. Virginia says she was so swamped with cases that she didn’t really have time  to “spend an extra 40 minutes” looking at the footage. She admits she made a terrible mistake and apologizes. A mistake? YOU SENT AN INNOCENT MAN TO JAIL FOR 12 YEARS!!! via GIPHY Later on, Virginia off on Annalise and even spits on her because she’s going to be disbarred (which Annalise doesn’t believe because if she didn’t get disbarred then there’s hope). Her counselor chastises her too for “destroying someone’s career.” via GIPHY Annalise says she did what she did for the greater good, but the counselor is upset because he feels like Annalise is repeating the same risky behavior that got her in this predicament in the first place. He thinks her ambition and ego are making her risk everything, and he wants her to be a hero for herself. But like, what was she supposed to do in that case? Virginia was dead wrong. Anyway, Annalise thinks he just wants control and tells him he’s not going to break her. via GIPHY Laurel presents more concrete proof to Michaela that her father killed Wes and tells her to go in and get justice for their fallen lover and friend. Finally, Michaela squares off with the final intern in the tournament at Kaplan and Gold. She wins of course! Game on. via GIPHY Two months later we’re back at the hospital after Laurel realizers her baby is gone. We see Annalise’s counselor approaching who he thinks is Annalise. It turns out that it’s Michaela. She’s standing outside the baby nursery, staring through the window and having a break down. She;s covered in blood and deliriously crying about how everyone around them dies. Another womp womp for the crew. ‘HTGAWM’ Recap: Annalise Goes To Battle For A Sex Trafficking Victim

More here:

Source: Mitch Haaseth / Getty Tonight’s episode of How to Get Away With Murder is in flashback format, as per usual. However, it’s one big therapy session between Annalise and her counselor. The episode opens with the reminder that Annalise is living in a hotel, which doesn’t bother her, and she tells her counselor that she took her first case last week since being back. Now we flashback to Annalise taking the case. The case is that of Jasmine, one of the women Annalise met when she was locked up. Jasmine is shocked that Annalise would take her case on, and pro bono at that. Jasmine is a career prostitute and drug addict convicted who was possibly wrongfully convicted on an illegal firearm charge. This woman has a lengthy record and other charges to contend with, winning won’t be easy. via GIPHY Meanwhile, Annalise’s kids are busy trying to figure out their next career moves. They’re interviewing for respective internships and having an awkward time with interviewers who are less interested in them as candidates and more interested what it was like working for Annalise, the notorious.  Later on, Michaela and Asher get call backs to their firm of choice while Connor and Laurel have no luck. Bonnie is moving on with her life away from Annalise. She works at the DA’s office now and she’s bitter af that Annalise let her go. That comes into play a little later, but hold that thought. Jasmine’s case isn’t looking good at first. There’s body camera footage of her soliciting the arresting officer for sex. Then it comes out that Jasmine was pimped out to a crew of savages by her father, at 13-year-old, for some drugs. Basically, this is a nod to broken people getting sucked into a broken system that discards them instead of actually reforming them. via GIPHY Annalise realizes that her client is a sex trafficking victim and reaches out to Bonnie for help because needs Jasmine’s sealed files from when she was a minor, from the DA’s office. Bonnie gets real stank and refuses, but Frank’s stalker behind slides in with the goods. He’s still trying to get back in Annalise’s good graces so he shows up to her hotel room with the info, and even though she’s not thrilled to see him she takes the files. Frank leaves without incident, but tells her that he’s always there when she needs him. via GIPHY Annalise’s counselor is trying to get her to see that this case is close to her heart she she was also a victim of child sex abuse. Annalise denise this, but c’mon son, we know what it is. Anyway, Annalise digs deep in court. She found disparities in how Jasmine’s case was handled as a child. Basically Jasmine was the judge’s only black client and while the judge didn’t send her to jail and sealed her record out of courtesy, he didn’t make sure she was released to a safe  environment. However, he made sure that his white clients were protected. This method of defense is unorthodox because Annalise is gonna Annalise, but she did a good job of making the court see that Jasmine was treated as a criminal instead of a victim and set up for failure. As a result, the judge orders Jasmine’s previous records to be sealed and allows her to get out of jail and be eligible for assistance. As long as Jasmine stays out of court she can live her life and apply for work without worrying about a prior convictions. Annalise is there when a grateful Jasmine gets out of jail and even sends her off with money. However, she reveals to her counselor that she thinks Jasmine will be reaching out to her soon, saying that she’s back on the streets and back on drugs. Hopefully not. Annalise claims she’s done adopting people because she ruins lives, but this wouldn’t be a bad passion project…from a distance. Just wire Jasmine some dough here and there and send some people to keep her lifted and out of trouble. via GIPHY The episode winds down with news that Michaela got an offer from Kaplan and Gold (the firm she and Asher wanted), but Asher didn’t. Laurel urges her to take the job because it’s the firm that represents her father and then she drops the bomb. She reveals that her father killed Wes. Michaela is rightfully stunned. via GIPHY Two months later, we’re at the hospital with Laurel freaking over her missing baby after regaining consciousness.
