Lana Del Rey’s ‘National Anthem’ Video: A$AP Rocky As JFK?

New clip, directed by Anthony Mandler, sees the pair portraying the Kennedys. By James Montgomery Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky already made minor waves when a song they recorded together, “Ridin’,” was yanked from production duo Kickdrums’ mixtape at the last minute — reportedly because Rocky liked the track so much, he decided to keep it for his own upcoming full-length, LongLiveA$AP. But from the sound of things, their next collaboration could make major headlines: The duo will play John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy in the video for LDR’s “National Anthem.” Rocky broke the news in an interview with a German reporter, saying the “Anthem” video is sure to get people’s attention, even if they probably won’t understand what they’re seeing. “We did a video together … [it’s] some swag sh–,” he said. “I play JFK, she plays Jackie O, you know, some cool, trippy sh–, some really 2015 sh–. People gonna get it in like three years, and that’s the whole purpose of it.” Totally. Of course, in another interview with BBC Radio 1 , Del Rey revealed that, in addition to its rather unique take on the Camelot couple, the “National Anthem” video would also be 10 minutes long and directed by Anthony Mandler (who recently helmed Fun.’s epic “Some Nights” clip). “Every so often, I top what I’ve done, and this video is definitely the most beautiful thing I’ve ever done,” she said. “I wrote a treatment for me and A$AP Rocky, because i just thought he’d be really perfect to star in it. … I love it.” Sadly, Mandler is about the only person who isn’t talking about the video. In an email to MTV News, he said he couldn’t speak about the video “until I know when the release is.” But rest assured, it’s coming soon — and you’re probably going to be talking about it for a long time after. Fun. Tease ‘Some Nights’ Video Ahead Of MTV Premiere

Band will perform at MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, along with Wiz Khalifa and Black Keys. By James Montgomery Nate Ruess Photo: Fueled by Ramen Two months ago, Fun. promised that their upcoming video for “Some Nights” would be “amazing,” then followed up that claim by teasing that the clip featured (and also xylophones). And now, after all that talk, we are finally getting our first glimpse at the video (which premieres Monday, June 4, at 3:55 p.m. on MTV) — thanks to a teaser clip posted by the band’s label, Fueled by Ramen — and it looks like Fun.’s claims were warranted. In the 30-second clip, we see Fun. performing amidst a Civil War battlefield, as flares erupt in the distance and Union and Confederate soldiers take aim at one another (said xylophone does not make an appearance). Directed by Anthony Mandler — who’s made a career out of helming eye-catching clips for the likes of Rihanna, Jay-Z, Drake and the Killers — the “Some Nights” video appears to be a worthy successor to the band’s breakout “We Are Young” clip, which still stands as one of 2012’s best. Of course, that assessment is based solely on a single sneak peek — you can catch the full “Some Nights” video when it premieres Monday, June 4, at 3:55 p.m. on MTV. And, of course, it comes on the heels of Fun.’s performance at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , which air live on Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. Fun. will share the stage at the big show with previously announced performer Wiz Khalifa and new additions the Black Keys and DJ Martin Solveig . Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live this Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET. Related Artists fun.

Rihanna Gives Fans ‘Another Twist’ In ‘California King Bed,’ Director Says

Anthony Mandler discusses working with the superstar singer, with whom he’s collaborated more than a dozen times. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna Photo: Getty Images Rihanna showed off her pale-hued softer side in her “California King Bed” video . A sweeping, romantic look at the demise of a relationship is perfectly encapsulated in the Anthony Mandler-directed clip. Rihanna and Mandler are certainly not strangers when it comes to collaborating, having made more than a dozen clips together, ranging from the fun “Only Girl (In the World)” to the dark “Russian Roulette.” When MTV News recently spoke to Mandler, he noted that he and Ri brought out a whole new side to the always-changing singer. “I think it’s something that is so unique about Rihanna whatever she’s doing, whatever character she’s playing, whatever side of herself she’s showing, she’s in it 1,000 percent,” he explained. “They’re all twists and variations on herself, and in each of them, the way she pushes the visual and the way she pushes the styling and the look of it, she really kind of gives them another twist on Rihanna. “And I think the song and the theme of this song, she wanted to obviously show a softer side, a lighter side, one that’s caught in maybe a tumultuous relationship,” he continued. “But not let the tumultuous relationship dominate the visual, really counterbalance it with tension-filled chaotic beauty.” Instead of finding a scenic location on which to shoot the video, they built their own set in order to have control over the elements of the video. Rihanna gave Mandler a “basic foundation,” and from there, he put his magic on what he describes as a “really pure beauty video with a story line underneath.” Having shot both a softer-edge Rihanna and a harder-edged one, Mandler weighed in on which he prefers. “There’s so much variety with her and it’s been such a journey with her,” he said. “It’s hard to say which one I enjoy more than the other. I just enjoy working with her, so whatever that means. … There are gray shades that are brilliant that I’m constantly discovering.” Related Artists Rihanna

Rihanna To Launch Reb’l Fleur Fragrance In Spring

‘This fragrance is about my passion for individuality,’ singer says in a statement. By James Dinh Rihanna Photo: David Becker/Getty Images Rihanna is following the pop star-turned-mogul trend by launching her debut signature fragrance. Teaming up with Parlux Fragrances Inc. , the songstress is set to release the new scent called Reb’l Fleur in department stores this spring. In a press release, the Loud singer said she hoped to make a one-of-a-kind perfume, from the aroma to the design of the bottle. “I believe a woman should dare to be different — willing to live her life for herself and not for other people,” Rihanna said in the release. “This fragrance is about my passion for individuality — being expressive and empowering, yes, but also emotional and intriguing. I promise you Reb’l Fleur will not be easily forgotten.” Reminiscent of the singer’s native land of Barbados, the scent combines the impressions of delicious fruits and sumptuous florals, as well as a musky blend of vanilla, patchouli and amber. Rihanna fans can begin purchasing the fragrance at department stores in the spring, with prices ranging from $49 (1.7 oz. bottle) to $59 (3.4 oz. bottle). While the perfume recalls Rihanna’s early life, the bottle for Reb’l Fleur captures an element of her current lifestyle, since it was inspired by the shape of a stiletto heel. Photographed by music-video director Anthony Mandler, a graphic advertisement for the scent shows a red-headed Rihanna leaning against a wall in a blouse. Holding a white rose to her mouth, the singer appears coy as she looks into the distance. In addition to the ad, Parlux’s Lori Zelenko revealed to MTV News that the singer has also shot a 30-second “hip, edgy” viral video for Reb’l Fleur. News of a Rihanna fragrance first surfaced back in 2009, when Parlux Fragrances announced that the singer and frequent collaborator Kanye West inked a deal with the beauty company via Jay-Z’s Iconic Fragrance. Drake And Lil Wayne’s ‘Miss Me’ Video Premieres

The now-incarcerated Weezy appears projected on a wall throughout the clip. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne and Drake (file) Photo: ROBYN BECK/AFP/Getty Images Drake’s “Miss Me” video featuring Lil Wayne debuted Thursday night (August 19) on MTV. The clip starts with a man in a hood standing in an alley. He’s lighting up a Molotov cocktail and throwing it at the wall. The music starts, and we see Drake performing against a white backdrop, but the shot is wide and reveals a black setting as well. The action cuts to a sexy woman dancing in a room alone, and later we see Drake in that same room, sitting on the floor as the woman shakes it for him. “Miss Me” has heavy performance scenes throughout Drizzy’s verse, and then we see a TV set in the alley. Lil Wayne appears on the wall in the alley rapping, and he again is shown on the wall in the room where Drake and the girl are, like a projection. The Birdman and most of Wayne and Drake’s Young Money family appear in the video as well. As the video comes to a close, it’s revealed that Drake was the man in the hood at the beginning of the clip. “Miss Me” was directed by Anthony Mandler, who has helmed all of Drake’s Thank Me Later videos. ” ‘Miss Me,’ it was something I was so excited to do,” Drake said recently on the set of another Mandler clip, for “Fancy.” “It was something not a lot of people expected me to do, especially with Wayne being in the situation he’s in. We did it as a team, held Wayne down. All the Young Money big dawgs came down — the men of Young Money — to show the muscle, to show we still in full effect. It’s a great piece. It’s darker than the feel of the song. It’s got very much like a youth-in-revolt, rebellious feel to it. I wanted to be aggressive, man. That was my chance to flex my little ‘We did it. We’re still here. Young Money is still in demand.’ And to deliver a message that I feel very strong about. I’m not trying to be the best in the world. I don’t think that’s possible. There’s always somebody better than you. I just hope they miss me, man. So this is it. ‘Miss Me.’ ” The next video Drake and Mandler will shoot is for “Show Me a Good Time.” What did you think of the “Miss Me” video? Does it make you miss Lil Wayne? Jennifer Aniston Laughed ‘Hysterically’ At ‘Switch’ Basting Scene

‘It’s one of those things where you go, ‘That did not just happen,’ ‘ actress teases to MTV News. By Kara Warner Jennifer Aniston Photo: MTV News The underlying subject matter of Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston’s romantic comedy “The Switch” — although a serious issue — is ripe with comedic possibilities in their upcoming film. In brief, Bateman’s character, Wally, unwittingly ends up being the sperm donor to his best friend (Aniston), but doesn’t find out until almost seven years later. When MTV News caught up with the stars as they promoted the flick, opening Friday, we asked them to explain the technicalities of “basting” or “donating,” as it happens in the context of the film. “Well, you can’t really give that away,” Aniston told us, declining to reveal what happens in the switch/basting sequence. “Because that’s one of those scenes in the movie, when I say I laughed out loud, I laughed out loud [when I read it in the script]. It’s one of those things where you go, ‘They did not just … that did not just happen. Really?’ And then, ‘How is he going to get out of this one?’ It’s again, one of the things that made me laugh hysterically about this movie.” Bateman was far more forthcoming on the subject, specifically a broad description of the procedure. “The basting process is one where a baster, which is an injecting item, needs to be placed firmly inside the female to introduce an element that may create a child,” Bateman explained matter-of-factly. This made us wonder, does Bateman consider himself something of an expert on the topic since filming “The Switch.” “Unfortunately, no,” the actor said. “I do not have any hands-on experience; it was just explained to me in theory.” While Bateman may not be a pro on the subject of insemination, he was downright philosophical when MTV News asked him to consider the sexier of two donations: blood or sperm? “Well, if I was in China, they wouldn’t need any extra sperm. If we were in, let’s say, Afghanistan, they might need some extra blood.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Switch.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Drake Gets ‘Fancy’ With T.I. And Swizz Beatz On Video Set

‘It’s a dedication to the ladies who take pride in being the flyest and finest,’ Tip tells MTV News of the clip. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by James “FLX” Smith Drake Photo: MTV News Drake’s upcoming “Fancy” video features a couple of stars known for cranking out hard-hitting hip-hop, but this time, the Toronto MC enlisted T.I. and Swizz Beatz to craft a sexy ode to the ladies. “It’s a dedication to the ladies who take pride in being the flyest and finest that there are out there to be noticed,” T.I. told MTV News on the set of the sleek clip, which reflects the song’s sultry vibe. The video features Drizzy, Tip and Swizz in all-black everything, spitting suave lyrics and flanked by leggy dancers in formfitting bodysuits. In his cool Atlanta drawl, T.I. chatted about participating in the collabo and sang the praises of Drake and Swizzy. “I was offered the opportunity and given the pleasure to be a part of this monstrosity of a record by young Drizzy and my big homie O.G., player, partner Swizz Bizzy,” Tip said. “I’m honored, privileged and absolutely pleased to be a part of this extravaganza that you are witnessing before you here today.” Anthony Mandler, who has helmed all the clips from Drizzy’s Thank Me Later, said the singer/MC’s approach to his work influences how the director develops the accompanying visuals. “For me, there’s a lot of pressure, because I feel like he’s creating music from a place that’s so pure and so unique and so original that it pushes me to try to create imagery that stands in the same zone,” Mandler said. Drake also lavished Mandler with respect and said his work with the director has changed his perspective when it comes to making videos. “As far as me evolving as a visual artist, I started in a place where visuals weren’t my strongest aspect. Me and Anthony shot ‘Over’ together, and for the first time, I really felt like, ‘This is how I’m supposed to look,’ ” Drake said. “From there, it’s sorta been like an inseparable bond.” Are you looking forward to the “Fancy” video?
