Fun. Tease ‘Some Nights’ Video Ahead Of MTV Premiere

Band will perform at MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, along with Wiz Khalifa and Black Keys. By James Montgomery Nate Ruess Photo: Fueled by Ramen Two months ago, Fun. promised that their upcoming video for “Some Nights” would be “amazing,” then followed up that claim by teasing that the clip featured (and also xylophones). And now, after all that talk, we are finally getting our first glimpse at the video (which premieres Monday, June 4, at 3:55 p.m. on MTV) — thanks to a teaser clip posted by the band’s label, Fueled by Ramen — and it looks like Fun.’s claims were warranted. In the 30-second clip, we see Fun. performing amidst a Civil War battlefield, as flares erupt in the distance and Union and Confederate soldiers take aim at one another (said xylophone does not make an appearance). Directed by Anthony Mandler — who’s made a career out of helming eye-catching clips for the likes of Rihanna, Jay-Z, Drake and the Killers — the “Some Nights” video appears to be a worthy successor to the band’s breakout “We Are Young” clip, which still stands as one of 2012’s best. Of course, that assessment is based solely on a single sneak peek — you can catch the full “Some Nights” video when it premieres Monday, June 4, at 3:55 p.m. on MTV. And, of course, it comes on the heels of Fun.’s performance at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , which air live on Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. Fun. will share the stage at the big show with previously announced performer Wiz Khalifa and new additions the Black Keys and DJ Martin Solveig . Usher Says ‘Scream’ Is ‘Just In Time For Summer’

Following ‘Climax,’ singer tells MTV News his latest single ‘represents the other side’ of Looking for Myself album. By Jocelyn Vena Usher Photo: MTV News Bumping beats, sexy lyrics and Usher ‘s signature R&B bad-boy swagger can only mean one thing: the singer has once again hooked up with superstar pop producer Max Martin. Their latest collaboration, “Scream,” picks up where “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” left off back in 2010. Usher used that track to convince us to go home with him after a dizzying night of partying, and for “Scream,” he’s got us back at his pad and he’s rocking our world, one fist-pumping moment at a time. While he opted to slow it down on “Climax,” Usher is back to large-scale dance tracks on Looking for Myself ‘s second single. And, he told MTV News, both tracks reflect the sound of the album. “This album has many different views and many different perspectives,” he told MTV News while rehearsing for his one-night run as the lead in NYC’s off-Broadway spectacle “Fuerza Bruta,” which also served as a place for Usher to debut the album ahead of its release. “And me and Max Martin, we’ve had success together in the past, and this was a record I felt represented the other side of the [album].” “Scream” and “Climax” truly are polar-opposite tracks. Where “Climax” sears and broods, “Scream” celebrates and dances. Usher is excited for the chance to show all those sides with the two lead singles from the June 12 release. “Whereas the first song was a little bit more artistic and a little bit more soulful, and it has done everything, it probably exceeded my expectations, I mean, from the moment I was able to give it away. I was able to kind of be reintroduced in a way musically, and thank you to [producer] Diplo, but ‘Scream’ is really like the next step. It’s just in time for summer and the type of experience that I want people to get out of the album.” But the Atlanta-bred singer notes that the album can’t be defined just by “Climax” or “Scream.” There’s a lot there to keep fans tuning in. “It’s a ton of other experiences and a ton of other walks … as I’ve had this long journey over the last year [and] every bit of what I’ve experienced I’ve put into a creative, artistic way,” he said. As for the video, well, that still has to be shot, but he joked that “Fuerza Bruta” might serve as the perfect backdrop for the clip — or maybe not. “We might be shooting it while we’re here,” he laughed. “This is like a movie set, damn near — sh– you don’t normally see with the launch of an album. This is pretty spectacular.” What are you expecting from Usher’s next album? Let us know in the comments!

Fun. Ready To Burn Bright At MTV Movie Awards

‘It’s an opportunity to have a performance that will be talked about forever,’ band says of taking the Movie Awards stage on June 3. By James Montgomery Nate Ruess of fun. Photo: Getty Images Given that Fun. are the first musical act announced for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , you’d think they’d be privy to all sorts of insider info on the big show, like potential hosts, nominees, etc. But, you’d be wrong. Turns out, they’re just as much in the dark as the rest of us. “We haven’t heard anything. Who’s going to be there?” frontman Andrew Ruess laughed. “Jackie Chan? Jon Bon Jovi? They better be there, for sure.” Sadly, we can’t vouch for either gentleman’s availability on June 3, when the Movie Awards air live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. But we can tell you that the guys in Fun. are planning on making the most of their time on stage, by going big with their performance of chart-topping smash “We Are Young.” “It’s one of the most flattering things that’s happened to us on this rollercoaster ride of this song and this album, because I just remember watching all those award shows — like the Video Music Awards and Movie Awards — and you always wonder like how they’re doing it, what their big reveal is going to be, all those other type of things,” Ruess said. “We’ve had meetings about how our set’s going to be and what it’s going to look like, and it’s so exciting. It’s so exciting how much effort MTV puts into this show, like, we have to show up and play the song, but they build this whole entire world around us, and it’s so amazing.” “It’s also an opportunity to have a performance that will be talked about forever,” guitarist Jack Antonoff added. “Like, I still talk about [the 2000 VMAs], when Eminem had the thousand people dressed like him, or when Smashing Pumpkins did ‘Tonight, Tonight’ [at the ’96 VMAs] … these are moments that, for us, growing up, last forever, and if we could pull off something like that, it would be amazing.” And as if being tapped to perform at the 2012 Movie Awards wasn’t already a big enough deal for the band, there’s also the fact that they’ve got previous MTV awards-show experience … though, to be fair, this will be the first time they’ve actually been invited to attend. “I went to the Video Music Awards when I was 14. My friend from camp had a friend who had a dad who was involved, and we sat near Rebecca Lobo and the Spice Girls,” Antonoff said. “It was the year that Fiona Apple gave the big speech, which, in hindsight, was pretty inspiring. My mind was blown, and I thought ‘This is just filled with famous people, and somehow I’m in the middle of it.’ So, to be able to go back to an MTV awards show — not through a friend of a friend who has a dad who works at Viacom — but to actually be invited, is an honor.” The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

Robert Pattinson Should Host ‘SNL,’ Jason Sudeikis Says

‘We got you, buddy,’ MTV Movie Awards host promises. ‘You’ll be fine.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jason Sudeikis Photo: MTV News Fans would love to see MTV Movie Award nominee and “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson take a stab at hosting “Saturday Night Live.” Well, maybe when “SNL” castmember Jason Sudeikis hosts the Movie Awards this Sunday, he can convince the British heartthrob to come on the show next season. “I think anybody should host [‘SNL’] if it’s something they want to do. Just give it a shot!” Sudeikis told MTV News just steps away from the Gibson Amphitheatre, where the 2011 MTV Movie Awards will be taking place Sunday. “We’re certainly a safe place, a safe haven.” Sudeikis even had some encouraging words for the potential host: “We got you, buddy. You’ll be fine. Hold on to me tightly. We’ll take you through the forest of ‘SNL.’ ” As far as he can remember, Sudeikis has yet to introduce himself to Pattinson. Though he might have met him already — unless that person was actually the star of “Dexter.” “I think I met him in the evening of the Emmys, but at the after-after-afterparty,” he recalled. “So it may have been Michael C. Hall. They may have both been there. But no, it’ll be nice to see him. He’s never hosted ‘SNL.’ Him or Kristen [Stewart]. And Kristen I got to meet during the promos , but Robert I haven’t met yet.” In that promo, Sudeikis gives Stewart a haircut, but we’re not sure fans would be as comfortable watching the Movie Awards host chop off Pattinson’s famous locks. Gwyneth Paltrow To Duet With Matthew Morrison On His Debut Album

The ‘Country Strong’ star and the ‘Glee’ actor have recorded a version of ‘Over the Rainbow’ for his upcoming release. By Aly Semigran Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Morrison Photo: GETTY/ Michael Tran Holly Holliday will be making sweet music with Will Schuester once more. Translating from Gleek speak, Oscar-winning-actress-turned-singing-staple Gwyneth Paltrow will be crooning yet another number with Matthew Morrison. Entertainment Weekly reports that Paltrow will appear on Morrison’s upcoming solo album, which is due out on May 10. On “Glee,” recurring guest Paltrow — who plays flaky substitute teacher Holliday — has covered Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You” and Prince’s “Kiss,” the latter of which she performed with Morrison’s Mr. Schue. Now, the Golden Globe-nominated Morrison is having the “Country Strong” star help him out on his debut record, on a tune that’s become almost synonymous with his “Glee” character: “Over the Rainbow.” As Morrison told EW, “People kind of know me for that song now.” The Broadway-trained actor not only used the timeless “Wizard of Oz” number for his “Glee” audition, but also sang it with co-star Mark Salling (who released his own solo effort, Pipe Dreams , in 2010) during the season 1 finale — both times accompanying himself on ukulele. “I wanted to do a duet with a female. I thought that was a good song to do, and we really did a different arrangement of it,” Morrison explained about the version he recorded for his album. “It’s a lot of strings, and it’s beautiful.” Morrison admitted that he felt nervous about approaching Paltrow to see if she’d participate in the recording. “The hardest part of doing this album was asking these people favors, like Elton [John] and her,” he said. “I’m so not that guy.” In addition to Paltrow and John, Morrison also has ‘NSYNC member JC Chasez lined up for a duet on a song titled “Dancing in the Rain.” While there’s no word yet on who, if any, of his “Glee” castmates will appear on the record — both had championed to get their own duets on the album — co-star Jenna Ushkowitz has already been singing its praises . Ushkowitz, who plays glee-club member Tina Cohen-Chang on the show, told MTV News on the red carpet of the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January, “His music is really great.” She went on to say that Morrison “made his own sound” on the album, while adding that it was “a little bit of Justin Timberlake … [and] symphonic-sounding.” Morrison has yet to announce a title for album, though the actor did reveal to MTV News at Clive Davis’ post-Grammy bash in February that ” My Name ” has been considered as a possibility.
