WOW . Kristen Stewart has come out and owned up to a romantic interlude with director Rupert Sanders . Within hours of an Us Weekly cover blasting this story to the world, and with photos of a kiss between Stewart and Sanders heating up the Internet, the actress has taken the very rare course of admitting to her actions and addressing the man most affected by them, boyfriend Robert Pattinson. “I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected,” the actress said in a just-released statement. “This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.” This is a remarkable development all around, considering Stewart and Pattinson rarely acknowledge they are even dating. But Stewart gave herself no choice here but to accept responsibility for her cheating ways. Could it actually affect the box office haul of Breaking Dawn Part 2 ? How will Twihards react to the many appearances Kristen is likely to make in promotion of that film? Will Robsten stay together? So many questions. Not many answers at the moment. Just a stunned, crushed fan base trying to determine its next step.
While the country continues to mourn the losses incurred inside an Aurora, Colorado movie theater last week, and while new information continues to leak out about shooting James Holmes , a debate has also taken shape around America: Considering the types of automatic weapons Holmes purchased legally, should the topic of gun control be more firmly addressed in light of the latest massacre? Mayor Michael Bloomberg has made his feelings on the topic known, as have a number of celebrities . Let’s focus on two because they possess such contrasting opinions. In an interview over the weekend, rapper/actor Ice-T took expressed his take: “The right to bear arms is because it’s the last form of defense against tyranny… If somebody wants to kill people, they don’t need a gun to do it.” He later Tweeted: “If you go into the jungle…. Will you NOT get eaten because you’re a vegan??” Now, let’s hear from Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame, also via Twitter: “I cannot understand support for legality of the kind of weapon in this massacre. It’s a military weapon. Why should it be in non-mil hands?” Two sides. One contentious issue. Where do YOU stand? Should automatic weapons be made legally available to the public?
In fewer than 140 characters, the 2012 Olympic dreams of Voula Papachristou have been dashed. Greece’s triple-jump champion has actually been removed from her country’s national team just days prior to the Opening Ceremony in London because she posted the following Tweet on July 22: “With so many Africans in Greece .. At least the mosquitoes of West Nile .. will eat homemade food!” With backlash building and rebuke of this tasteless joke strong, Greece has announced that Papachristou will not compete at the Games due to “statements contrary to the values and ideas of the Olympic movement.” She has since issued her own statement/apology: I would like to express my heartfelt apologies for the unfortunate and tasteless joke I published on my personal Twitter account. I am very sorry and ashamed for the negative responses I triggered, since I never wanted to offend anyone, or to encroach human rights. My dream is connected to the Olympic Games and I could not possibly participate if I did not respect their values. Therefore, I could never believe in discrimination between human beings and races. I would like to apologize to all my friends and fellow athletes, who I may have insulted or shamed, the National Team, as well as the people and companies who support my athletic career. Finally, I would like to apologize to my coach and my family. Do you think this was a proper punishment for Papachristou?
Moments after Kristen Stewart issued an apology for cheating on Robert Pattinson with Rupert Sanders, the director of Snow White and the Huntsman has come out with a statement of his own. “I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family,” Sanders tells People . “My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.” Sanders, 41 is married to a model named Liberty Ross. She actually played the young Snow White’s mother in her husband’s first feature film and she’s the mother to his seven-year old daughter and five-year old son. Ross reacted to Sanders’ infidelity by removing a photo of herself and Stewart from her blog and by sending out a couple of incredulous Tweets before deleting her account.

The stunning elimination of Pia Toscano on American Idol Thursday night will no doubt go down as one of the show’s most controversial in 10 seasons. Despite her lackluster stage presence, her talent outclassed much of the field, with many predicting she would make it all the way to the May 25 finale. No one understood why Pia was in the bottom three to begin with. As the results were revealed, the judges and her fellow hopefuls were dumbstruck. When the show ended, no one in the studio audience moved. In past eliminations, it’s been an easy transition off the stage, but this was no ordinary elimination. Crushed, Pia buried her head in Jacob Lusk’s chest. Haley Reinhardt wiped away tears and prompted the crowd to cheer for Pia. Stefano Langone looked destroyed and guilty that he kept a spot over Pia. Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler surrounded her to show their support, as if she’d just lost a loved one. It was that kind of shocker. But the votes don’t lie, and this wasn’t the first such shocker on Idol . Still, it’s gotta be top five, right? Here are four that ranked up there with it: Chris Daughtry. The presumptive winner of season five was ousted before Taylor Hicks (winner), Katharine McPhee AND Elliott Yamin. Wow. Melinda Dolittle. The veteran backup singer was on a collision course for a finale with Jordin Sparks (winner), but Blake Lewis beat her out. Michael Johns and Carly Smithson. They finished eighth and sixth in Season 7 (David Cook and David Archuleta finished 1-2) Far too low. Jennifer Hudson. The future Oscar winner finished 7th in Season 3. Fantasia (winner) has had a nice career, but finalists 2-? Unknowns. What do you think? Was Pia Toscano the most shocking elimination of all? Something to ponder as you watch her swan song last night, “I’ll Stand By You.” Some of the first words: “Why you look so sad …” Pia Toscano – I’ll Stand By You (American Idol) [Photo: Fox]
File this under News You Didn’t Expect When You Got Up This Morning But Still Aren’t Shocked By At ALL: Allen Iverson went OFF on the cops last week! After a car belonging to him was pulled over for a traffic violation last week, the former NBA star told the officer, “Take the vehicle, I have 10 more.” Iverson was a passenger in the grey Lamborghini spied by an Atlanta officer changing lanes without signaling about 6 p.m. March 30, CNN reports . The driver, Antwuan Clisby, couldn’t produce any documentation for the vehicle, then told the officer Iverson needed to leave the car to eat dinner. The officer said no one was leaving until the investigation was done. Iverson became “irate” at that notion, proclaiming, “I’m the (expletive) passenger.” The officer radioed for backup, and a second unit arrived. Clisby and Iverson exited the car, and A.I. kept cursing at the officer, who informed him of his expired tags and that the car would be towed. “Take it, I have 10 more,” Iverson said. “Police don’t have anything else (expletive) to do except (expletive) with me … Do you know who I am?” The officer wrote in his report that he was just getting started: “For the next 20 minutes, Mr. Iverson went on and on about who he was.” “I stated, ‘It really doesn’t matter who you are. You tried to conceal your vehicle with a fake drive-out tag due to you not paying for your tags.'” Iverson then said, “I make more money than you will in 10 years.” Clisby then asked, “Would you want to pay $10,000 for a tag?” To his credit, Iverson later “came back and apologized for disrespecting the police,” the report said. “He stated he was just upset about his car.” Clisby was cited for not signaling and for the expired tag. Bet the fee to get the ride out of the city tow lot was under $10K though. Just saying.
