Matt Lauer vs. Bill O’Reilly: Did the Media Exploit Whitney Houston?

On The Today Show this morning, Matt Lauer and Bill O’Reilly engaged in a fascinating debate. It stemmed from the latter’s belief that Whitney Houston had a death wish, that nobody abuses drugs or alcohol in such a way ” if they want to stay on the planet .” Lauer countered this point by saying “addiction is a disease,” but O’Reilly shot back: “It’s a mental disease. You have free will when it comes to addiction. You don’t have free will when it comes to lung cancer.” Matt Lauer Interviews Bill O’Reilly (Audio) The main topic of the discourse, though, centered on the media’s handling of Whitney’s long struggle with substance abuse, with O’Reilly labeling all reports over the years as “sensationalized to exploit the woman’s condition, not try to help her. “You know what we in the media do, Lauer?” he asked. “We wink-wink it. We Snoop Dogg it. We Willie Nelson it. ‘Hey, oh yeah, they’re stoned, that’s fine.'” Is O’Reilly in favor of lowering flags in New Jersey Saturday in honor of Houston’s funeral? Yes, he believes we should respect the singer’s life. But he also believes journalists should have done the same for her before she died by taking a harsher stance on her drug problem. Listen to the audio above and take a side.

Adele: Proud of Her Body!

“I don’t want to be some skinny mini with my tits out. I really don’t want to do it and I don’t want people confusing what it is that I’m about.” So says Adele in an interview with Anderson Cooper on Sunday, one taped prior to this singer landing in the news this week for reasons beyond her incredible ability: first, fashion guru Karl Lagerfeld referred to her as fat . Then, he apologized . The timing for this 60 Minutes piece, therefore, could not be better, as Adele speaks at length about her body image and her goals as an artist; namely to just write “love songs” and nothing more. She isn’t going for shock. She doesn’t care about sex appeal. She just wants to sing. Isn’t that refreshing? Adele 60 Minutes Interview Snippet

Ellen DeGeneres to Bill O’Reilly: Thank You!

Ellen DeGeneres and Bill O’Reilly on the same side of an issue? Yes, folks, anything is possible. This pair of seemingly opposite celebrities came together this week in light of an organization known as One Million Moms pushing to get Ellen fired as the JC Penney spokesperson, with the Fox News anchor referring to the protest as un-American and, simply, wrong. Ellen also commented on the flap during a monologue this week, and then took a few moments later to express gratitude to O’Reilly. Watch her do so below: Ellen DeGeneres Thanks Bill O’Reilly

Bill O’Reilly Defends Ellen DeGeneres, JC Penny Against Conservative "Witch Hunt"

It’s a witch hunt. That’s what Bill O’Reilly has to say about the movement by One Million Moms – a conservative organization, from which no member agreed to appear on Fox News last night – to pressure JC Penny into firing its new spokesperson, Ellen DeGeneres. The group takes issue with Ellen being an openly gay celebrity, as O’Reilly Factor guest Sandy Rios defended its actions by saying “people that believe marriage is between a man and woman and children should not be exposed to propagandized homosexuality.” O’Reilly response? That’s fine. Don’t shop at JC Penny then. But to actively push for a private company to fire an American citizen based on her lifestyle? That’s just wrong. It’s McCarthyism. Watch the segment below and then express your opinion: Bill O’Reilly Argues in Favor of Ellen, Company Rights Should JC Penny fire Ellen DeGeneres?

Bill O’Reilly on the Kardashians: All That’s Wrong with America!

Great. Thanks a lot, Khloe, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian . You’ve forced us to side with Bill O’Reilly. On his Fox News program last night, the host sat down with Barbara Walters and grilled her over her ridiculous Most Fascinating People of 2011 list, which includes Simon Cowell, Derek Jeter, Pippa Middleton … and the Kardashians. Why are we “lionizing” that family, O’Reilly asked, arguing they represent “all that’s wrong with America” because they have “no talent,” they make millions and “all they do is sit around and whine.” Anyone care to disagree? Bill O’Reilly Calls Out Donald Trump for Obama Birth Certificate Claims

It’s come to this: Bill O’Reilly is the voice of reason. On that host’s Fox News talk show last night, the journalist called out Donald Trump for pushing the absurd notion that Barack Obama was born outside the United States. Referring to multiple announcements in Honolulu papers that documented Obama’s birth, O’Reilly quipped to his guest: “What is he, the Baby Jesus? There was a sophisticated conspiracy to smuggle this baby back into the country?” O’Reilly went on to doubt that Trump could possibly believe such nonsense, challenging the supposed Presidential candidate for just trying to be “provocative” and remain in the news. What If We Reinvented Awards Season As a Playoff Tournament?

Has awards season become a tad repetitive for your tastes? Sure, the recent surge by The King’s Speech over The Social Network is exciting, I suppose, but at this point how many awards can we see Natalie Portman and Colin Firth win against basically the same competition before we all collectively throw up our hands and say, “OK, we get it. Can we just move on to the Oscars now? Or at least try something different ?” Here’s an idea: What if every single awards ceremony were important?

Return of the ‘Pack: The Teaser Trailer for The Hangover Part II Debuts with Help from Jay-Z

When the trailer for Bruno debuted in 2009 , Universal tried to sell audiences on the critical love for Sacha Baron Cohen’s previous summer comedy, Borat . It didn’t work. Cut to 2011, and here comes Warner Bros. using a similar strategy in the first teaser for The Hangover Part II (it looks like those Roman numerals are part of the official title), which uses quotes about the first film to fill up much of the trailer’s length. Is this highly anticipated sequel doomed to face a Bruno -like box office fate?
