He was the Chicago Bulls’ No. 1 draft pick in 1999 and over the course of his career suited up for teams that included the LA Clippers, the Dallas Mavericks, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Philadelphia 76ers. Brand is excited about leading his former team and hopes to transform the Sixers into a leading contender in the Eastern Conference through his guidance. “The 76ers are on the cusp of something very special and the next 12 months are really important. I think that’s why I was the leading candidate, to bring stability to the organization and this group that I know really well,” he said in a statement. The Sixers are excited about bringing Brand to the front office. Josh Harris , owner of the Sixers, says that Brand will be influential in bringing in new talent. “I think we’re at a new point in our team’s development into hopefully an NBA championship,” he said. “We need to be attracting talent here. Certainly, Elton’s image and who he is as a person were real positives. But leadership and managerial skills and the things you’ve got to do in the front office that aren’t just about image, he’s got those, too. But certainly, that was a huge positive.” According to Black Enterprise , Brand’s appointment comes shortly after Maurice A. Stinnett made history as the first Black man to become a diversity and inclusion vice president for an NBA team. Google Launches Tech Exchange To Increase Racial Representation In Tech

Excerpt from:

T ech giant Google is expanding its efforts to increase racial representation within the realm of tech. After launching a pilot program for Howard University students, the company has announced the creation of a new initiative called Tech Exchange, Ed Surge reported. In addition to empowering students and providing them with first-hand experience in Silicon Valley, Google launched the Tech Exchange with hopes of boosting its own diversity numbers in the long-run. https://t.co/Am7QrjUYvy #highered #edequity — EdSurge HigherEd (@HigherEdSurge) September 21, 2018 As part of the program 65 students from HBCUs and Hispanic institutions will head to Silicon Valley to enhance their computer science skills, the news outlet writes. Tech Surge is an expansion of Howard West; a program designed to send Howard University students to Google’s headquarters on the West Coast for hands-on experience in the tech industry. After witnessing the impact that the program made in the lives of the students who participated, Google wanted to offer the opportunity to students at other HBCUs. Amongst the institutions participating in the tech exchange program are Morgan State University, Florida A&M University, Dillard University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and others. April Alvarez, Educational Equities Program Manager, Google, believes that the Tech Exchange initiative will be an integral part of increasing diversity within the corporation as well as within the tech industry as a whole. “We’re not as diverse as we’d like to be. We’re focused on building a more diverse Google, one that definitely reflects our users. This Tech Exchange is a piece of that puzzle,” Alvarez told Ed Surge. “These students — we hope they’ll come back and work for a place like Google or start their own Google. They’re going to be leaders in the industry.” Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick says that it’s important for companies to hire individuals who reflect their consumer base. “You want diversity of thought in every discussion, and you need to do that by hiring people with the diversity of background in every experience,” he said. According to Google’s 2018 diversity report, only 2.5 percent of employees are Black. Woman Goes on Horrific Anti-Muslim Rant, Claims It Was Taken Out of Context

Look, we know we're in some dark times right now. But apparently these times are so dark that some people feel comfortable spewing ridiculously hateful things at another person while in line at the grocery store, just because that person happens to be a Muslim. Seriously, that happened. In a Trader Joe's in Reston, Virginia, a Muslim woman was waiting in line, and when she saw another woman with just a few items in her cart, she allowed her to go ahead of her. The woman promptly began talking trash about another Muslim woman in the store, one wearing a niqab. She asked the Muslim woman in line why she wasn't also covered up. She explained to her that it was a choice, but apparently that wasn't good enough. The other lady began talking about female genital mutilation (???) and that's when the phone came out. You can see the next part of the conversation in the video below. The poor harassed woman says “I shouldn't have let you in front of me,” and after taking a moment to think of a comeback, Ol' Crazy says “I wish they didn't let you in the country.” She goes on to tell her that “Obama's not in office anymore” — like she'd missed the memo — and that “You don't have a Muslim in there anymore.” “He's gone, he's gone. He may be in jail too, in the future.” It's all a little too insane to handle, and of course the woman comes off looking like a racist psycho. But she's actually speaking out to local news stations. In one statement, she claimed that her comments in the video were taken out of context. She said that the Muslim woman who filmed the exchange “ambushed” her with “strong statements” about the U.S. being “full of murderers and rapists,” and so she just responded to that. Yeah, sounds like a solid story. See the conversation in the video below:

Man Exposes Friend’s Cheating Boyfriend: See The HILARIOUS Exchange!

Have you ever heard the saying ” cheaters never win “? Of course you have, you live on this planet, you’ve heard things. But while the saying is true, it’s also true that sometimes, on special occasions, people are able to publicly expose cheaters , and those people do win. And the people lucky enough to witness it all go down ? Well, friends, we win, too. And we win hard . Take, for example, the story of a man named Eli. Sit back as we weave this magical tale. Eli has a friend named Samantha, and Samantha has a boyfriend named Kyle. Or at least she did, before Eli got involved. In a lovely series of text messages that Eli was kind enough to share on Twitter, he reached out to Kyle and asked him a pointed little question. “Why were you at Rachel’s house yesterday? Does your girlfriend Samantha know?” Poor Kyle obviously panicked after reading that gem. “No. You didn’t tell her did you?…” Note the question mark and the ellipses. Somebody sure sounds nervous, huh? But then the magic happens. “No,” Eli told him. “but I will if you buy me a pizza at Pizza Hut and have it delivered to my house.” He gave Kylie his address, and told him “The choice is yours.” “Okay I did it,” Kylie said, and so he did: But please take note of the clever wording in Eli’s request. “No,” he said, as in no, he didn’t tell Kyle’s girlfriend that he was at another girl’s house. However … “But I will if you buy me a pizza.” Either Kyle was real anxious about being found out or he was never that great at reading comprehension, because obviously Eli told him that if he ordered a pizza and had it delivered to his house, then he’d tell the girlfriend that good ol’ Kyle was being unfaithful. Here’s the lesson in all this: don’t cheat on your significant other. Alternate lesson: learn how to read good.

Ellen Page Confronts Ted Cruz Over Gay Rights: WATCH!

On the bravery scale, we're pretty sure arguing with a stumping politician while he's engaged in some folksy BS like grilling pork at a state fair ranks somewhere between running into burning building and asking Donald Trump for his views on women . So the next time we need someone to kill a spider in our shower, we're calling up Ellen Page. The actress showed some serious cojones earlier today when confronting bridge-troll-turned- presidential-candidate Ted Cruz at the Iowa State Fair. Fortunately, the exchange was caught on camera. Page accused Cruz of “discriminating against LGBT people,” and to his credit, he calmly explained his position, as opposed to calling her a loser and hurling pork at her, as Trump likely would have. Interestingly, Page was dressed in a hat and sunglasses, and the Texas senator says he never realized he was speaking with a famous actress. Although even if she weren't covered up, we doubt Cruiz would've recognized Ellen. He doesn't strike us as a Juno fan.

BOSSIP Exclusive Footage: Manny Pacquiao & Floyd Mayweater Caught Chatting Courtside — Negotiating Terms Of Their May Match?

Floyd Mayweather & Manny Pacquiao Chat Courtside At Bucks vs. Heat Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather were both sitting courtside at the Miami Heat game on Tuesday. Rarely seen in the same room together (and never in the same ring), the welterweights used halftime as an opportunity to chop it up — even exchanging numbers. Are they looking to chat one-on-one about their hotly anticipated upcoming match in May?? Via ESPN : At halftime, the two welterweight champions and future Hall of Famers, whom the world has wanted to see fight, met briefly and spoke with each other. “He gave his number to me and said we will communicate with each other,” Pacquiao said, according to The Associated Press, adding that he had never before met Mayweather in person, although they previously talked on the phone and Pacquiao once appeared on one of Mayweather’s undercards in 2001. Asked to clarify whether the exchange meant the two would negotiate directly about meeting in the ring, Pacquiao said that was the case. “We did meet and chat but I don’t I want to say what we discussed,” Michael Koncz, Pacquiao’s adviser, who was with the boxers, said when reached by ESPN.com on his cellphone during halftime. “It was a private discussion. They had a private, friendly discussion, and that’s all I really want to say.” Hmmm….what do you think these two’s text stream is going to look like while they hash things out???

Zac Efron Gets Confused by Profound Reporter Question, Throws Some Shade

Zac Efron may be in the best place he’s ever been at right now. But we doubt he’d apply such gushing praise to a red carpet interview he suffered through this week. The That Awkward Moment star was part of a very awkward moment when approached by Fox News’ Michael Tammero at a New York City screening of the film last night. “What is your point of view on living, loving and dating?” the reporter asked, to which Efron replied with utter confusion and a shade of annoyance. Tammero laughed and rephrased the question, to which Efron curtly replied: “Watch the movie.” Check out the exchange now, then view the That Awkward Moment trailer and decide: Will you watch the movie?
