Cops Kill People: Protesters Gather At Colorado Springs Police HQ To Demand Justice For De’Von Bailey

Source: Mirrorpix / Getty Colorado Springs Police Kill Teen De’Von Bailey Folks in the Colorado Springs community have gathered to demand justice for 19-year-old De’Von Bailey who was gunned down by police under suspicious circumstances to say the very least. Surveillance footage captures portions of the incident according to a report on CBS Denver . Although the beginning of De’Von’s interaction with police isn’t seen, we can see what appears to officers firing their guns at him while he is running away from them. There is no audio so it isn’t totally clear when the shots were fired. The department’s official stance on the incident is that De’Von was a robbery suspect, which is all well and good, but doesn’t exactly explain why FATAL FORCE was required. Even more quizzical is De’Von’s father’s reaction to his Black son’s death at the hands of a white state agent. “I don’t want to make this about Black Lives Matter or anything, because all of our lives matter. I know everyone says my son was killed by a white cop and he’s a black man in the community. And yes, those are the facts, but that’s not what this is about. This is about what’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong. What’s wrong is my son was shot in the back by law enforcement,” he said. Uh, ok. CSPD says the body camera video that was captured by the officers during the shooting will be released to the public this week.

#FreeCyntoiaBrown: Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam To Decide On Clemency Before Leaving Office In 6 Weeks

Source: Pattanaphong Khuankaew / EyeEm / Getty Cyntoia Brown’s Freedom Rests With Gov. Haslam’s Clemency Decision Cyntoia Brown deserves her freedom. Sadly, a 60-year-old white man holds the keys to her liberation, literally. According to CNN , Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam is in the process of deciding whether or not to grant Cyntoia clemency for killing a man who solicited her for prostitution back in 2004. This case has struck a chord with millions of people on social media and celebs like Rihanna and Kim Kardashian. The system has failed. It’s heart breaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life! We have to do better & do what’s right. I’ve called my attorneys yesterday to see what can be done to fix this. #FreeCyntoiaBrown pic.twitter.com/73y26mLp7u — Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) November 21, 2017 When asked about Cyntoia’s case by a Black Lives Matter activist at an event this past Monday, Haslam replied: “We are in the midst of reviewing Cyntoia’s case,” Haslam said at an event Monday night, responding to a local Black Lives Matter activist who asked about clemency for Brown. “We’ll hopefully have a decision — I’m just here for six more weeks, so it’ll be before that,” Haslam said, according to a video of the event posted online by The Tennessean newspaper. “But we’re doing our best to review every aspect of that, talking to everybody involved, just like we are with several other — I wouldn’t say exactly similar cases — but somewhat similar cases.” BOSSIP fam, we ask that you flood Gov. Haslam’s office with letters, tweets, Facebook messages, carrier pigeons, smoke signals, flying banners, and any form of legal communication you can manage to send him the message that clemency is the right thing to do.

Black Lives Matter Is Protesting Until Sacramento Officials Give A Damn About Stephon Clark, Brandon Smith

S acramento activists want to see justice for the recent police-involved death of a Black father, Brandon Smith . They also want the day to finally come when the police officers involved in Stephon Clark ‘s fatal shooting are fired, charged, tried and convicted for his death. Related: Stephon Clark Didn’t Receive CPR For Nearly 6 Minutes After Being Fired At 20 Times Black Lives Matter (BLM) activists gathered outside of Sacramento City Hall Thursday on the third day of their “8 Days, 8 Shots” civil disobedience demonstrations for Smith and Clark. The protests, beginning on Tuesday, will last until next Wednesday — one day for each of the eight times that Clark, 22, was shot on March 18 —  Ryan McClinton , a community organizer for advocacy group Sacramento Area Congregations Together, told the Sacramento Bee . Police accountability for the death of Smith, 30, who died from unknown causes while in police custody two weeks ago, was also a top priority for BLM. Today was day 2 of #8Days8Shots a collective protest of community leaders calling for #Justice4StephonClark #Justice4BrandonSmith Tomorrow we at City Hall to continue being Civilly Disobedient in the name of EQUITY and FREEDOM. (Truth be told we ain't free.) @Blklivesmatter pic.twitter.com/HdB1YCn44e — BlackLivesMatter Sac (@BLMSacramento) June 21, 2018 Smith, a father of three, took his last breaths during a ride to the Sacramento County Jail on June 6. He was transported by an unidentified Sacramento police officer, having called for medical help during the ride, body camera footage released on June 13 revealed. “I’m f—– up. I feel like I’m having a heart attack,”Smith is heard in the video saying. “Oh my god,” he continued, as a Sacramento officer took him to a police truck. He was placed in the vehicle before he fell on the metal floor. Once the car arrived at the jail, Smith was discovered unresponsive, the Bee reported. It’s important to note that the report said that despite Smith’s pleas for help, no attention, including CPR, was given to him until after he was found out cold. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, with his death being similar to that of Freddie Gray , 25, who died in Baltimore police custody in April 2015. Black Lives Matter Sacramento activists are protesting for eight days outside of City Hall. Watch silent ‘8 days, 8 shots’ protest protest at Sacramento Police Department https://t.co/ycExBbV4Z5 — The Sacramento Bee (@sacbee_news) June 21, 2018 The Sacramento Police Department has kept fairly quiet about the officers involved in Clark’s shooting. The cops’ names have not been officially disclosed. However, civil rights attorney John Burris identified them as  Terrence Mercadal and Jared Robinet  after the department released footage of the shooting on March 21. Mercadal and Robinet were put on paid administrative, but then returned to work in a non-patrol capacity on April 9, according to the Bee. Sacramento County district attorney Anne Marie Schubert  won a June 5 primary despite no charges having been brought against the officers for Clark’s death. Schubert blamed the police for the slow investigation, saying the department had not brought their case to her, ABC10 reported. Activists want Schubert and the department to know that no justice equals no peace. The museum’s sports curator, Damion Thomas, told USA Today,   “The National Museum of African American History and Culture has nearly 40,000 items in our collection. The Colin Kaepernick collection is in line with the museum’s larger collecting efforts to document the varied areas of society that have been impacted by the Black Lives Matter movement.” Edwards told the museum, “I said, ‘Don’t wait 50 years to try to get some memorabilia and so forth on Kaepernick. Let me give you a game jersey, some shoes, a picture. … And it should be put right there alongside Muhammad Ali. He’s this generation’s Ali.’” The National Museum of African American History and Culture, located in Washington, D.C., features an exhibit dedicated to sports that “demonstrates the centrality of African American contributions and challenges to contemporary American culture and politics.”

Headazzy Halle? Ms. Berry Says She’s Tired Of Folks Just Whining About Black Lives Matter

Halle Berry Says She’s Tired Of Complaints With No Action Halle Berry says she’s fed up with folks whining about Black Lives Matter…sort of. It’s not so much the act of speaking about the movement itself that bothers Ms. Berry…but the posting, meme-ing, and discussing the issues at hand…but then taking no real tangible action to try to help rectify it at the end of the day. While making an appearance at the Cannes Lions Girls’ Lounge, Halle told Page Six : “In my world, I get so tired of people complaining about, ‘Oh black lives matter,’ and they pontificate and pontificate about it, and I say, ‘Well, what are you doing about that? It may not seem significant to you, but that’s how we start. Have you called your local politicians, have you written a letter?’” When they say they’ve done nothing, I say, ‘Well, don’t talk to me…because you are part of the problem, because you are sitting here spewing negativity and complaining.’ I don’t have time for people who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk.” Well, we can’t say we disagree all that much. Building awareness and fostering discussion of the topics at hand is definitely important…but without individuals and groups trying to make steps toward real change, we’re all just watching injustice occur like a reality show at the end of the day. Chilli from TLC Says All Lives Matter, and Twitter Can’t Deal

Remember when TLC was the ultimate in girl groups , when songs like “Waterfalls” and “No Scrubs” were the songs of a generation? According to Twitter, those days are officially over. See, in a new interview, TLC’s Chilli and T-Boz (RIP Left Eye) were asked about the Black Lives Matter movement, and if they felt strongly about it or attended any marches. Chilli answered with “I personally didn’t go into any marches, or anything like that, but for me, all lives matter, you know what I mean?” If you’re not aware, it’s important to note at this point that responding to anything about Black Lives Matter with “all lives matter” is seriously frowned upon by many, many people . “There is a time when different groups are targets for different things,” Chilli said to further explain her stance. “So I just think that, just the whole … you know … what happened with the police brutality against these young black boys and stuff like that, all of that kind of stuff is wrong, even if it was a caucasian teen kid that this was happening to or whatever.” “It’s just not right.” She added that perhaps people in positions with authority should be subject to more thorough background checks, and a “mental stability kind of check” to see if they’re fit for that kind of work. Interestingly enough, the ladies were also asked about Donald Trump, and T-Boz said that she doesn’t care about him. “God is my president,” she said, “so I just feel sorry for the people it affects, but I don’t care about him.” As an American, T-Boz, you’re the people it affects . Girl. Right, so TLC did this bizarre interview, then Twitter found out about it. And it did not go over well. “Please stick to the rivers and the lane that you’re used to,” one person tweeted in an adorable play on the lyrics to “Waterfalls.” Another savagely wrote “The caucasian scenario Chilli made up doesn’t happen, so she’s canceled, & I’m glad Usher cheated on her, music wouldn’t be the same.” “How are TLC, proud pioneers of social consciousness in the 90s, gon’ be so ignorant on the Black Lives Matter movement,” one sad soul wondered. “Beyond disappointed.” A patient Twitter user took the time to explain “Chilli has missed the point. We know all lives matter. The title is supposed to be sarcastically ‘Black Lives Matter TOO.'” As for the late, great Left Eye, one person that she is “rolling in her grave. She would never.” What a mess. Are you as troubled by TLC’s comments as the rest of the internet seems to be? View Slideshow: 18 Celebrities Who Think #BlackLivesMatter
