It makes sense given that Mrs. Carter’s husband/ rap mogul Jay-Z is taking the helm of the movie’s soundtrack. “It’s a very different take on ‘Back to Black,’” a record company rep said of the duo, who shared space on wax for Bey’s 2011 jam “Party.” The Baz Luhrman-directed adaptation, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire, will be making its world premiere at the opening night of the Cannes Film Festival on May 15. Haters are gonna hate on Baz Luhrmann and his anachronistic, super Baz Luhrmann-y big screen version of The Great Gatsby , but if I’m being honest it had me at the first trailer’s reveal of Leonardo DiCaprio ‘s Gatsby, dripping wet, staring bewildered lust-daggers of passion at Carey Mulligan ‘s Daisy Buchanan*. Now we’ve got a second full trailer full of art deco razzle dazzle and brooding glances and Frank Ocean to pore over, so just go with it and let the Bazziness of it all wash over you like the bombastic lit-pop mashup that it is. Because, let’s be real: It’s been years since we’ve seen DiCaprio smolder as a bona fide romantic figure. After melting hearts as Jack Dawson in Titanic he spent the ensuing decade and a half running away from his teen idol past, with entirely respectable results. Now that he’s a man who, to borrow from an episode of GIRLS , looks like he knows how to do things, it’s a whole new ballgame for DiCaprio watchers — and a whole hell of a lot gentler a rich good-time dandy than Leo’s current awards season character, Django Unchained ‘s Calvin Candie. So why not just give over to the madness? Jason Clarke and Joel Edgerton in the cast means there’s a Zero Dark Thirty – Great Gatsby multiverse of crossover fanfic possibilities, and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan plays Meyer Wolfsheim. I’ll say that again: Amitabh freaking Bachchan plays F. Scott Fitzgerald’s shady Jewish businessman from New York, which is just about as random and crazy an idea as casting Pete Postlethwaite as a drug-pushing man of the cloth, and we all know that was just pure awesome. *You know the shot I’m talking about. Tribeca 2013 Unveils Festival Dates The 12th annual Tribeca Film Festival will take place April 17 – 28 in New York City. The festival also announced a new Transmedia program spotlighting new trends in digital media, using innovative, interactive, web-based or multi-platform approach to story creation. The festival will present a new award for this new section. Submissions are open September 17th with an Early Deadline set for October 19th for features, shorts and transmedia projects. November 30th is the Official Deadline for all features, shorts and transmedia, while December 28th is the Late Deadline available only for feature-length films. A hearty congratulations is in order for Carey Mulligan. The Drive actress married Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons today, trying to know in front of family and friends – including celebs Sienna Miller, Colin Firth and Jake Gyllenhaal – in Somerset, England. Mumford popped the life-changing question to Mulligan last August, following five months of dating. The two were actually childhood pen pals in London. Mulligan previously dated Shia LaBeouf, but split with the actor in 2010. We wish this newly married couple all the best!

Remember Shame ? The NC-17 one featuring Michael Fassbender as a sex addict, Carey Mulligan as his off-kilter sister, a couple of notorious ” late-night lovers ” and a thriving awards-season profile that imploded a month ago like a dying star, seemingly having taken the film with it? Right, that one. Now, as per the rules of the cosmos and/or art-house schemes in Columbia, S.C., that star has finally exploded back into consciousness in perhaps the best way possible. The flier pictured above was spotted in and around Columbia over the holiday weekend, urging local moviegoers to avoid the “den of sin” known as the Nickelodeon Theater. The 75-seat venue had finally booked Shame for a run, and without the benefit of a sustained Oscar campaign for erstwhile front-runner Fassbender , the fliers seemed to play right into the hands of Nickelodeon management.
