For reasons that defy comprehension, Kandi Burruss wants the world to know that she played a role in “Tardy for the Party.” The Real Housewives of Atlanta star is suing fellow cast member Kim Zolciak for unlawfully licensing, distributing and selling the track, which she wrote and Kim sang on. Or at least attempted to sing in. Kim Zolciak – Tardy for the Party In a statement to Too Fab, Zolciak says in response to the legal action: “This is nothing short of a publicity stunt, I find this lawsuit funny yet sad. Coming after me now and this song is 4 years old? I have in fact overpaid Kandi and have documents to prove it and my legal team will handle this accordingly.” This just in: NBC is moving #Smash to Saturdays at 9 pm beginning April 6. Ironically, the lawsuit is likely good publicity for Zolciak’s “Don’t Be Tardy,” as that spinoff premieres on Bravo on April 16. Kandi, meanwhile, is being represented by a name Bravo fans know well: Phaedra Parks .

Tributes from Carson Daly, Russell Simmons, Big Boi and New Kids on the Block flood in after pop-culture icon’s death. By Jocelyn Vena Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2010” Photo: Theo Wargo/Getty Images/DCP The death of pop-culture icon Dick Clark has hit the entertainment world especially hard. Moments after news broke that the producer, radio personality and “American Bandstand” and “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” host had died of a heart attack at age 82, some of showbiz’s biggest names expressed their sadness over the loss. Photos: The life and career of Dick Clark. Ryan Seacrest, who has long been Clark’s heir apparent, having taken over the hosting duties on his “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” said in a statement , “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Dick Clark. He has truly been one of the greatest influences in my life. I idolized him from the start, and I was graced early on in my career with his generous advice and counsel. When I joined his show in 2006, it was a dream come true to work with him every New Year’s Eve for the last 6 years. He was smart, charming, funny and always a true gentleman. I learned a great deal from him, and I’ll always be indebted to him for his faith and support of me. He was a remarkable host and businessman and left a rich legacy to television audiences around the world. We will all miss him.” I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Dick Clark. He has truly been one of the greatest influences in my life. — Ryan Seacrest (@RyanSeacrest) April 18, 2012 Carson Daly, who has also taken career cues from Clark, said in a statement: “We lost an icon today. I will always cherish the personal time we had together. I am forever indebted to Dick Clark and his legacy. My heart goes out to his family.” The love for Clark seems to defy genre, as his work on TV helped very diverse artists break into the mainstream. Russell Simmons tweeted , “Dick Clark was eternally young. No matter what culturally phenomenon was happening, he always embraced it. RIP…” An MTV VP recalls his first job in television, working for the late Dick Clark. Snoop Dogg added , “REST IN PEACE to the DICK CLARK!! U were pioneer n a good man!! Thank u sir.” Big Boi simply tweeted a photo of him and Outkast partner Andre 3000 standing alongside Clark, with the message “R.I.P Dick Clark.” Like Big Boi, “Weird Al” Yankovic also posted a photo of himself with the TV host, writing, “Such sad news. RIP Dick Clark.” Certainly his influence on merging music and television can be seen on TV today, especially on shows like “Glee.” “A sad day as we have lost Dick Clark, an American Icon. You will be missed,” one of the show’s stars, Matthew Morrison, tweeted . His loss is also felt by the pop world, with ’80s boy banders New Kids on the Block tweeting , “#RIPDickClark. A true music maverick. You will be missed.” Their tourmates, the Backstreet Boys, added , ”Our hearts go out 2 Dick Clark’s family. The memories u’ve created will live forever & r experiences w/ u is something we will cherish 4 all r lives.” Kings of Leon’s Jared Followill seemed surprised by the news, writing , “R.I.P. Dick Clark? Say it ain’t so…” Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary also tweeted about Clark’s death. Back in the early ’80s, just as Madge was taking her career to the next level, she famously declared on “Bandstand” that her ultimate goal was “to rule the world.” Linking to a clip of that 1984 appearance, Oseary wrote , “Rest in Peace DIck Clark …” Share your condolences for Clark’s family, friends and fans in the comments below. Carson Daly is still feeling the heat for comments he made yesterday morning on his radio show, and this time the source is the mother of a 9/11 hero. Following Daly’s on-air joke that implied gay people were too weak to subdue an airline pilot – in this case, the JetBlue captain, Clayton Osbon , who simply lost control of his senses aboard a flight earlier in the week – Alice Hoagland has penned a letter to the host of The Voice . Hoagland is the parent of Mark Bingham, one of the passengers on 9/11’s United Airlines Flight 93, who helped wrestle control from terrorists and crashed the plane in a Shanksville, Pennsylvania field, saving countless lives in the process. “Yes, my gay son was known in our family for bringing me flowers on my birthday and Mother’s Day,” Hoagland writes. “He also was known for careening down the rugby pitch, and, on the morning of September 11, 2001, for charging unarmed down the aisle of a doomed Boeing 757 to face knife-wielding Islamist thugs in a hijacked cockpit. “No one among his pick-up team of fellow passengers was asking ‘Are you straight? Are you gay?’ No one doubted that a guy who weighed 220 and stood 6’4” tall – who could run over a charging opponent on the field, and ran with the bulls in Pamplona earlier that summer – would be an asset to a desperate group trying to overcome a threat onboard an airliner. “The world has its share of strong, heroic gay men. Gay men in sports uniforms and military uniforms have been winning America’s games and fighting America’s battles for a long time: quietly, humbly, and in the face of vicious bigotry. “I hope you and I may have an opportunity to talk sometime. I prefer to believe you didn’t mean to offend. Good luck to you.” Daly has since spoken to GLAAD and followed his Tweeted apology with the following statement: We live in a time where gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals find courage every day to overcome adversity, stand up to bullying and find equality. I’m truly saddened that my words today suggested otherwise. I’ve long been a supporter of Gay and Lesbian rights, and I’m saddened that my comments, however unintentional, offended anyone, specifically members of the LGBT community. The fact that I have hurt anyone is devastating. I’m not that guy. I’m proud to be an ally of the LGBT community and will continue to fight with them.
On a JetBlue flight from New York to Las Vegas yesterday, a group of passengers were forced to band together and subdue Clayton Osbon , a pilot who simply flipped out, behaving erratically, banging on the cockpit door and screaming out numbers. On his radio show this morning, meanwhile, Carson Daly referenced the incident. “Most of the people were on their way to some sort of security conference in Las Vegas,” he said. “It was like a bunch of dudes and well trained dudes… thank God.” The Voice host then added, laughing: “With my luck, it would be like… ‘this is the flight going to [the gay pride parade] in San Francisco,'” changing his tone to sound more effeminate and saying: “Uh, we’re headed down to Vegas for the floral convention.” The implication, naturally? Folks such as that would not have been able to bring down the JetBlue pilot . A few hours after making the comments, Daly Tweeted an apology: “This morning on my radio show I attempted to make fun of myself & offended others by mistake. I sincerely apologize.” Do you accept this apology? Do you think he should have made one?
As promised, CNN’s New Year’s Eve special with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin proved just as entertaining as years past. Though Griffin didn’t drop the f-bomb or try to undress Cooper on air, she did attempt to humiliate her co-host in other ways. When the show came back from a commercial break, Griffin appeared on air just in her bra. “Are you kidding me? Are you serious?” Cooper said.
