Aubrey O’Day Fired on Celebrity Apprentice; Clay Aiken, Arsenio Hall Vie For Title

Aubrey O’Day may not be a slut , but she is out of a job. The outspoken … whatever she is gave it her best all season long, but she was fired Sunday on Celebrity Apprentice, leaving Clay Aiken and Arsenio Hall as the last men standing and vying for the top spot next week. Did Donald Trump make the right call axing Aubrey? The boss man called the singer “transparent,” sending her packing and leaving Arsenio and Clay to battle it out, with former teammates back in the fold. Clay got some help from Penn Jillette, Dee Snyder, Debbie Gibson and Aubrey O’Day . Arsenio, picked Paul Teutul Sr., Teresa Giudice, Lisa Lampanelli and Adam Carolla. Team Clay and Team Arsenio were then told to direct, produce and star in a variety show to raise money for their charities, sell tickets and create a PSA. Clay decided to put on a musical, asking Debbie for musical advice and Penn to help write and conceptualize. Clay and Debbie quickly sparred over it. The former American Idol runner-up was a fan of micromanaging more than Arsenio, but both men were dedicated to raising funds for their causes. Clay, a former special education teacher, was happy and right in his element when working with children for a National Inclusion Project PSA. Arsenio, who was raising money for the Magic Johnson Foundation, took a humorous approach to the task. He even involved Magic in the PSA. Unfortunately for Team Arsenio, a miscommunication with the tech team made much of Magic’s essential shot unusable, possibly dooming him. It’s all about the ticket sales and contributions raised, though, and both will play a key role in who wins the Celebrity Apprentice next weekend. Who do you think it’ll be, Clay or Arsenio? Tell us below.

Victoria Gotti Fired on Celebrity Apprentice

After last week’s premiere saw Cheryl Tiegs fired and Victoria Gotti narrowly escape, in the opening moments of last night’s episode of Celebrity Apprentice , she said: “It’s on.” Gotti added, “Women will turn on you quicker than a jackrabbit. No problem. In fact, bring it on.” That they did, and she ended up getting the chop Sunday night. Most of the women ended up turning on Gotti during a Medieval Times challenge. After copious amounts of screaming, fighting and a broken finger (Dee Snider’s), the men’s decision to go with star power over plot worked in their favor as they won the challenge and received thunderous applause from the audience. The women ended up showing more skin than they originally intended and despite Aubrey O’Day’s best Snooki impression, it was back to the boardroom. Lisa Lampanelli was spared as Gotti’s stage-directing mishaps, inability to pull it together and threat to quit that had Donald Trump sending her home.

Prince Michael Jackson to Testify in Dr. Conrad Murray Trial if Asked

Michael Jackson’s eldest son Prince will very likely be asked to testify at the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, which begins today in L.A. An eyewitness to the horrific scene in the bedroom where his father lost his life in 2009, the 14-year-old does not want to testify, but will do what he must. According to a TMZ report, Prince is telling family that if he’s called to the stand, he’ll do what needs to be done in the name of justice for his late father. That said, he’s not exactly looking forward to it. Prince is “nervous” and worried that if he’s called to the stand, he might get flustered and “mess up.” If Prince, who is on the prosecution’s witness list, is called by prosecutors, his grandma and guardian, Katherine, will ask her lawyers to protect him . Not to bar him from testifying, but to request that the entire courtroom be cleared during his testimony. That wouldn’t be unprecedented for minors. Judge Michael Pastor will likely prohibit the media from putting Prince on camera and traumatizing him further, but may not clear the court altogether. Prince is on the witness list because Dr. Murray summoned Prince Michael Jackson to MJ’s bedroom for help during the fateful morning in June 2009. Opening statements in Murray’s trial begin today. Teresa Giudice Cast on Celebrity Apprentice

Likely billed by Donald Trump as THE BEST hiring in the history of reality television, Teresa Giudice has been cast on the new season of Celebrity Apprentice. The Real Housewives of New Jersey star will compete against a slew of other Z-listers and donate any winnings she earns from the show to charity, a fact someone might not have relayed to Teresa. She isn’t the first individual from this nauseating franchise to be cast on the NBC competition, either. NeNe Leakes made many headlines last season for clashing frequently with Star Jones . The new season of Celebrity Apprentice will likely premiere in early 2012. WE won’t be watching.

Is America’s Anti-Obesity Message Now Affecting Other Cultures?

Originally posted here:

The stigma associated with being overweight in Western society has spread around the world, even to cultures which traditionally embraced larger figures as the epitome of beauty. The New York Times recently published an article entitled “Fat Stigma Spreads Around The Globe” that blamed this change on the media saturation of the idealized slim body images promoted in advertising and movies. It also pointed a finger at the emergence of public health efforts to promote “obesity as a disease and a worrisome threat to a nation’s health.” What is surprising, according to Dr. Alexandra Brewis, head researcher, is that scores for fat stigma, were high in Puerto Rico and American Samoa, as well as along the Mexican border and in Paraguay, places that have historically held more positive views of larger bodies. She said, “these cultures traditionally view bigger women, in particular, as fertile, generous and desirable…. Of all the things we could be exporting to help people around the world, really negative body image and low self-esteem are not what we hope is going out with public health messaging.’’ This implication – that by trying to promote healthy lifestyles, we are really creating whole societies with body centric issues – struck me, and reminded me of an editorial I read not long ago which questioned Western societies obsession with weight-loss TV shows and ‘real women’ modeling, and asked whether or not our focus on weight is really helping or hurting . I believe, as the new research suggests, that our obsession with weight in the media is in fact harmful, and skews societies expectation of what you “should” look like. You only need to look at the sheer number of weight related reality shows on television and the portrayal of overweight people on prime time shows to see that weight is big business in America. “The Biggest Loser,” “Dance Your Ass Off,” “Heavy,” “Too Fat For 15,” “Supersize v. Superskinny,” “I Used To Be Fat,” the list goes on. These shows claim to be about promoting healthy living and giving people the chance at a healthier life, and they often feature people who have been broken down by their situation and appearance and are desperate to change it, which is the basic premise of the show. However, in reality, are these people’s struggles and very real issues exploited for comedy and entertainment? No one can tell me that the producers of “Dance Your Ass Off” really wanted to help the participants lose weight and get healthy. If that was the case, then the promo clip for the show wouldn’t have focused so much on the contestants in their underwear or in glittery, tight, midriff baring, dancing attire. If “The Biggest Loser” wasn’t trying to shock audiences then the wouldn’t feature food binges or emotional meltdowns every episode. What these sorts of programs aim to do is intrigue the perverse voyeuristic desires of the average audience, rather than help the participants lose weight, and in doing so, they exploit the subjects. By humiliating the contestants by making them stand near naked on the scales, and showing the trainers pushing them and screaming at them until they cry, what is really being promoted is not a positive message of unhealthy people being given their life back, but an underlying feeling that being overweight means, and should mean, that you are fair game for humiliation. Is what is actually being promoted a self-loathing and learned contempt for overweight people? It’s not just weight-loss specific shows that push this subtle rhetoric though. Tyra Banks for instance, pushes the “love yourself, all women are beautiful” message, and has often spoken out about loving bigger bodies, yet at the same time “America’s Next Top Model” featured a girl who proudly proclaimed to have the “ world’s smallest waist ” and she won the series! So what is being promoted as the ideal there: healthy weight or thin to the extreme? It doesn’t really surprise me that the Western obsession for stick-thin has permeated through to other cultures and ways of thinking, however it does trouble me that the anti-obesity message is becoming linked to a hatred of larger figures. The media’s message about weight loss is very contradictory, and it begs the question; how can the obesity epidemic be rectified, if weight-loss strategies are increasingly associated with humiliating overweight people, often on reality television?
