For years I’ve wondered why some women were adamant about not having hospital births for their children; now, I know why. Refinery 29 reported the story of a new father who shared a photo on Reddit of his family’s hospital bill after his wife gave birth to their son. Highlighted on the bill was a charge for “skin to skin after c-sec.” “During the C-section, the nurse asked my wife if she would like to do skin to skin after the baby was born. Which of course anyone would say yes too. We just noticed it on the bill today,” halfthrottle captioned his post. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently reviewed their suggested guidelines on the sexual activity for those who travel to or from areas where the Zika virus is prevalent and came up with a new recommendation. WHO now advises travelers to be abstinent or have protected sex for at least six months after they return to the United States. This advisement was updated after WHO learned the virus can live in sperm for up to the same about of time. BuyBlack Google Extension Will Help You Find Common Items From Black-Owned Companies

One of the major complaints Black shoppers who want to buy from Black businesses have is that they just can’t find Black-owned businesses. But now a new Google Chrome Extension aims to help consumers find Black businesses easy. BuyBlack was created by Angie Coleman, an account manager at San Francisco-based CodeHS, and it lists Black-owned alternatives to online shoppers’ favorite retail sites. Here’s how it works: Users install the app then a Black solidarity fist appears in the corner of their browsers, which then expands into a drop down list of sites from Black-owned businesses with similar product offerings whenever they search for items online. There are products and services ranging from makeup and clothing to home goods, art, vacation rentals, food, and more. Currently, more than 300 businesses can be found on BuyBlack… [ MadameNoire ] No Black Women Are In Top 10 On List Of Highest-Paid Actresses Mo’Nique has complained about the Black women pay gap in Hollywood countless times and people painted her as a troublemaker. Chris Rock even came out and claimed that Black women get paid less than everybody in Hollywood. He said, “Black women have the hardest gig in show business. You hear Jennifer Lawrence complaining about getting paid less because she’s a woman — if she was Black, she’d really have something to complain about.” Now here is evidence that is hard to refute. A new list from Forbes shows that the highest paid actresses make much less than actors, but Black actresses don’t even get in the top 10. Paul Krugman’s piece isn’t especially about the issues in Flint, Mich. or the truth that many inner-city dwellings still have issues with lead. Instead, it focuses on the lead poisoning policies of presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, both of whom have not made the issue a central focus of the race. It May Soon Be Illegal For Employees To Ask Your Salary History

… The movement started in Massachusetts, where employers are not prohibited to ask such questions, and this may become the trend across the country. “A trio of legislators announced this week they will introduce a bill that will prohibit employers from asking job-seekers about their salary history before making a job offer,” reported Glamour. Among the bill’s sponsors are Representatives Eleanor Holmes Norton, Rosa DeLauro, and Jerrold Nadler… One of the reasons legislators want this to happen is because some experts say that requesting someone’s salary history before making a job offer only perpetuates the wage gap. “Because many employers set wages based on an applicant’s previous salary, workers from historically disadvantaged groups often start out behind their white male counterparts in salary negotiations and never catch up,” the announcement states. [ MadameNoire ] “The Cupboard Is Bare”… CDC Director Says There’s No More Money In The Zika Fund As Zika virus transmissions become more rampant in the United States, the CDC shared some unfortunate news about how they (probably) won’t be able to help those who become infected in the near future. At a press conference this past Tuesday, CDC’s director Dr. Thomas Frieden told reporters, “the cupboard is bare.” “Basically, we are out of money and we need Congress to act,” he shared. Despite the severity of this news, our congressmen and women have been on summer vacation for seven weeks. They return back to work next Tuesday but until they do, Federal agencies are not allowed to spend or receive new money unless Congress gives them the green light. Since Dr. Frieden revealed the lack of money the CDC has to help treat the virus, three new cases were reported in Florida. They must also have specific skills, such as the ability to analyze information and express ideas, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to grasp new concepts.
