Did You Know? Hospitals Can Charge You For Holding Your Newborn

For years I’ve wondered why some women were adamant about not having hospital births for their children; now, I know why. Refinery 29 reported the story of a new father who shared a photo on Reddit of his family’s hospital bill after his wife gave birth to their son. Highlighted on the bill was a charge for “skin to skin after c-sec.” “During the C-section, the nurse asked my wife if she would like to do skin to skin after the baby was born. Which of course anyone would say yes too. We just noticed it on the bill today,” halfthrottle captioned his post. According to Fit Pregnancy, skin-to-skin touch between a mother and child is imperative after giving birth because it helps the infant adapt to its post-birth environment and generate the mother’s milk production… [ MadameNoire ] Sephora’s Latest Class Offering Is All About Boosting Your Confidence There’s many reasons why we love beauty retailer Sephora, beginning with all the amazing goods they house in their signature black and white walls. Record Companies Are Rethinking Exclusive Streaming Deals With Tidal And Apple

The music industry is in trouble. It has been for a long time because people simply aren’’t buying music like they used to. In fact, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, music sales were just below $15 billion in 2014–a major drop from $40 billion in sales in 1998. Obviously record companies are looking for ways to cut costs and increase revenue, and in doing do they’ve found restricting sought-after albums to one digital streaming platform is actually costing them money rather than making any. “The music companies now realize that restricting desirable albums to one online service could limit the overall growth of subscription music—viewed by labels as key to their own long-term survival. In their place, streaming-music services are scrambling to hire well-connected ‘ambassadors’ who can help them line up artists to make playlists, videos and other promotional materials to differentiate themselves,” reported The Wall Street Journal… [ MadameNoire ] Kylie Jenner’s Going After Black Beauty Consumers Now With New Lip Shade For Darker-Skinned Women Clutch your makeup bag, Kylie Jenner is trying to expand her popular Kylie Cosmetics to the Black female consumer. Color blind quarterback Cam Newton had a terrible game and his arch nemesis Von Miller rocked some Yeezy cleats on field. But neither one of them were the biggest story of the night. That distinction goes to Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall who became the latest NFL player to join Colin Kaepernick‘s protest of the national anthem. BuyBlack Google Extension Will Help You Find Common Items From Black-Owned Companies

One of the major complaints Black shoppers who want to buy from Black businesses have is that they just can’t find Black-owned businesses. BuyBlack was created by Angie Coleman, an account manager at San Francisco-based CodeHS, and it lists Black-owned alternatives to online shoppers’ favorite retail sites. Here’s how it works: Users install the app then a Black solidarity fist appears in the corner of their browsers, which then expands into a drop down list of sites from Black-owned businesses with similar product offerings whenever they search for items online. There are products and services ranging from makeup and clothing to home goods, art, vacation rentals, food, and more. You hear Jennifer Lawrence complaining about getting paid less because she’s a woman — if she was Black, she’d really have something to complain about.” Now here is evidence that is hard to refute. A new list from Forbes shows that the highest paid actresses make much less than actors, but Black actresses don’t even get in the top 10. Paul Krugman’s piece isn’t especially about the issues in Flint, Mich. or the truth that many inner-city dwellings still have issues with lead. Instead, it focuses on the lead poisoning policies of presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, both of whom have not made the issue a central focus of the race. It May Soon Be Illegal For Employees To Ask Your Salary History

… The movement started in Massachusetts, where employers are not prohibited to ask such questions, and this may become the trend across the country. “A trio of legislators announced this week they will introduce a bill that will prohibit employers from asking job-seekers about their salary history before making a job offer,” reported Glamour. Among the bill’s sponsors are Representatives Eleanor Holmes Norton, Rosa DeLauro, and Jerrold Nadler… One of the reasons legislators want this to happen is because some experts say that requesting someone’s salary history before making a job offer only perpetuates the wage gap. “Because many employers set wages based on an applicant’s previous salary, workers from historically disadvantaged groups often start out behind their white male counterparts in salary negotiations and never catch up,” the announcement states. [ MadameNoire ] “The Cupboard Is Bare”… CDC Director Says There’s No More Money In The Zika Fund As Zika virus transmissions become more rampant in the United States, the CDC shared some unfortunate news about how they (probably) won’t be able to help those who become infected in the near future. At a press conference this past Tuesday, CDC’s director Dr. Thomas Frieden told reporters, “the cupboard is bare.” “Basically, we are out of money and we need Congress to act,” he shared. Despite the severity of this news, our congressmen and women have been on summer vacation for seven weeks. They return back to work next Tuesday but until they do, Federal agencies are not allowed to spend or receive new money unless Congress gives them the green light. Since Dr. Frieden revealed the lack of money the CDC has to help treat the virus, three new cases were reported in Florida. The main ingredients in milk of magnesia are water and magnesium hydroxide, newer formulas of the solution have added sodium hypochlorite, however, which is the main ingredient in bleach. Using a product with this ingredient is far too harsh for the skin and can easily burn a sensitive area like the face. It may cause blisters, soreness, redness, and other skin related issues. It contains hidden inactive ingredients. Most of us don’t exactly read product labels, and if we do, often times we don’t understand them.
