Last week Dwyane Wade went buck defending his wife against disrespectful fans, now it’s Gabrielle Union’s turn to have her hubby’s back. Last night, former NBA…
What the hell is this “good boy” talking about? SMMFH!!! NBA legend Charles Barkley appeared on CNBC’s Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo Thursday afternoon and shared his incredibly diplomatic views on George Zimmerman’s acquittal. “I agree with the verdict,” Barkley told Bartiromo. “I’m sorry that young kid got killed, but they didn’t have enough evidence to charge him.” Barkley admitted that he did see some “racial profiling” in the case, but said “something happened that changed the dynamic that night.” He recognized what he was saying was “probably not a popular opinion among most people,” but “looking at the evidence” he said he agreed with the jury’s decision. He also called out the media for not having a “pure heart” when it comes to race. “Racism is wrong in any, shape or form,” Barkley said. “A lot of black people are racist too. I think sometimes when people talk about racism, they say only white people are racist, but I think black people are too. I don’t think the media has clean hands.” Despite Zimmerman’s “racial profiling,” in Barkley’s assessment, “Trayvon Martin, God rest his soul, he did flip the switch and start beating the hell out of Mr. Zimmerman.”
Jason Collins became the first openly homosexual athlete in major American team sports when he came out as gay in Sports Illustrated last month. To hear Charles Barkley tell it, the operative word is “openly.” Charles Barkley on Jason Collins The response to Collins’ decision has been overwhelmingly positive, but the concept of playing with a gay player is still a major talking point in sports. Barkley said on The Dan Patrick Show that he has played with 3-4 gay men during his 16-year career, and those are just the players he knows about. The NBA Hall of Famer did not reveal the athletes in question. During the interview, Barkley noted that Collins himself has been on six teams, and that everyone who has played in the NBA has had a gay teammate. “I think it’s a huge deal,” Barkley added of Collins’ decision to come out on Monday night during TNT’s Inside The NBA . “I’m really excited for Jason.” What’s your reaction to Collins’ announcement? Good for him! Who cares? He should go back in the closet! View Poll »
Pause… Charles Barkley Wants Tiger Woods To Retaliate Against Greg Norman According to The Big Lead : Earlier this week, Greg Norman said that Tiger Woods was “intimidated” by the No. 1 golfer in the world, Rory McIlroy. Tiger’s response was to joke about it, but his old friend, Charles Barkley – remember, Tiger supposedly cut ties with Barkley after he got caught cheating on his wife with chicks in Vegas (and everywhere, really) – didn’t like Norman’s dig. Barkley went on Waddle and Silvy’s radio show in Chicago Thursday and had some advice for Tiger while hammering Norman: I would like for him to just blast Greg Norman … That situation gave everybody a chance to dump on you, and [Tiger] still tried to take the high road. I’m not a high road guy. I want him to come out and really blast Greg Norman. I wish he would go ballistic on Greg … I wish I could put some of my blackness in him … like toughness … [I’ve been] arrested eight times for fighting … just because I’m Charles Barkley, you can’t disrespect me … you just can’t say anything to me anytime you want to … Is Tiger Woods a hoe-a$$ ninja?? Our friend at BlackSportsOnline has an interesting commentary about what “blackness” means to Charles. Image via AP
Well, that didn’t take long. Within hours of the Spice Girls and company closing down the London Olympics, Michael Phelps has been featured in his first post-2012 Games ad campaign. The first of a great many, we’re sure. In this simple spot, the most decorated Olympian of all-time just can’t escape the water, staring intently into the camera from a bathtub, a Louis Vuitton bag by his side. We’re sure he’d prefer if girlfriend Megan Rossee were in there with him instead. But the massive check written to Phelps by the purse maker likely offsets that disappointment… Phelps has also booked his first new television gig. He will follow in the cleated footsteps of Charles Barkley and Rush Limbaugh as a student of of Tiger Woods’ former coach Hank Haney, appearing as a willing golf protege on The Haney Project .
