Black Keys Go Big On El Camino, In Between Chick-Fil-A Visits

Keys scored highest chart debut of their career earlier this week, when El Camino opened at #2. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias Black Keys Photo: MTV News Earlier this week, building on the breakout success of their Brothers album and powered by current single “Lonely Boy,” the Black Keys’ El Camino roared to a #2 debut on the Billboard albums chart , by far their biggest bow to date. And though many were surprised by the first-week numbers, the Keys themselves weren’t. After all, they’ve known the stakes were higher from the minute they started recording El Camino — even though they tried very hard to ignore that fact. “We were aware that more people were paying attention to us than ever had, but we tried not to let it get into our heads,” drummer Patrick Carney told MTV News. “It definitely didn’t affect the making of the album, but, you know, we were trying to take advantage of the situation, because we’ve been a band for a decade and the whole point, for us, was to play to as many people as possible without compromising. So we put a lot of time and effort into the new record. We’ve made records in 14 hours before; this one we spent 40 days on.” Of course, that extended stay in the studio had just as much to do with the band’s increased stature as it did with El Camino ‘s expanded scope. From its skuzzy, fuzzy guitars to the pealing organs and keening backing vocals, it packs a whole lot into just 38 breakneck minutes, taking the Keys’ signature two-man racket to newfound places and spaces. “When we started the songs, it was completely organic, but once we start going, and we get the foundation done, we really start to concentrate on the little details that sort of make it what it’s going to be, because sometimes those little details can be really impactful,” frontman Dan Auerbach said. “And that’s why it took us longer than it’s ever taken us to make a record.” Though most are quick to chalk that expansion to the band’s work with producer Danger Mouse (whom they’ve collaborated with since 2008’s Attack & Release ), the Keys say that it was mostly due to them wanting to take full advantage of everything Brothers provided. In fact, the majority of their conversations with the Mouse involved nothing more than chicken. “Most of our discussions were about Chick-fil-A,” Carney laughed. “Yeah,” Auerbach added. “The distance to and from Chick-fil-A.” Related Artists The Black Keys

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Bested by Twilight Saga!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows brought in $24 million across the nation last night, as fans lined up for midnight showings of this blockbuster. While impressive, though, that tally falls short of two Twilight Saga installments. The record-holder for midnight showing haul is Eclipse , which earned $30 million during the first two hours of its release. That figure topped the previous best: New Moon ‘s $26.3 million. In 2009, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince brought in $22 million during this time slot, proving once and for all: no magic is a match for chiseled abs and brooding paleness!

Erin Barry: A Real-Life Desperate Housewife

Erin Barry, the mistress/sext-message fiend behind Eva Longoria and Tony Parker’s divorce, is a real desperate housewife – a good girl gone bad! According to the New York Post , the estranged wife of Brent Barry, a former teammate of Parker’s, had been sexting Tony Parker for over a year. But in 2006, Erin Barry described a storybook marriage to Brent, then a guard with the San Antonio Spurs, with San Antonio Woman magazine. SEXT BOMB : Erin Barry’s charms were too much for Tony to resist . “To sit in your nice home, have your nice job and ignore the suffering going on around you, you can’t enjoy what you have if you don’t help those that are less fortunate,” she said. “For me to be able to use the blessings that I have feels good.” Erin identified herself as a housewife and mom, a high-school sweetheart of Brent who met while a student at an all-girls Catholic school in San Francisco. Erin also revealed she was born to a single, teen mom and adopted by a couple that also had three biological children: “It was kind of obvious,” she said. “Here I was with my dark hair and olive complexion in this Irish-Polish family.” The news of Tony Parker and Eva Longoria’s divorce comes just weeks after the Barrys, who have two boys, ages 4 and 9, also decided to divorce. The Barrys wed 12 years ago. Longoria found the text messages between Erin and Tony and filed for divorce after just three years of marriage. “Eva and I have been discussing our situation privately,” Parker said. “We plan to continue to keep our discussions of this matter private.” Good luck with that.

Tony Parker Wasn’t Surprised By Eva Longoria’s Divorce Filing

‘Eva and I have been discussing our situation privately,’ he says in a statement to People. By Mawuse Ziegbe Tony Parker and Eva Longoria Photo: WireImage Since news of Tony Parker and Eva Longoria’s divorce lit up headlines Wednesday, speculation about the collapse of their union has exploded, fueled by rumors that Parker’s alleged infidelity may have played a part. On Thursday (November 18), the San Antonio Spurs player released a statement addressing one rumor: that he didn’t know Longoria was going to legally end their marriage. “Eva and I have been discussing our situation privately,” he said in a statement issued by his rep to People. “I was aware that she would be filing for divorce in Los Angeles.” Parker also maintained that he had not lawyered up or filed any documents of his own. “I did not file for divorce in Texas and did not hire divorce attorneys in either Texas or California,” he says. “We plan to continue to keep our discussions of this matter private.” Longoria and Parker split after seven years together amid whispers that the athlete had been unfaithful. A source told TMZ that the actress is “devastated.” Despite his personal turmoil, Parker addressed the media before heading out onto the court Wednesday night. “This is a difficult time right now for me and Eva,” he told reporters before the Spurs’ game against the Chicago Bulls, according to San Antonio news station KENS 5. “Everything else is our private life.” Parker also added, “I’m getting great support from teammates and coaches. Right now, I just want to concentrate 100 percent on winning basketball games with the Spurs.” Related Photos Eva Longoria And Tony Parker In Happier Times Shocking Celebrity Couple Break-Ups

We helped SEIU fight to stave off millions of dollars of healthcare cuts. Their “ Case Studies” page , which touts work for a bunch of liberal candidates, highlights “FAR-REACHING ROLE IN ELECTION: Obama for America.” That page trumpets : “No other firm had as far-reaching a role in President Obama’s election…with Anita Dunn serving as one of the top officials of the campaign and the firm producing both television advertising and direct mail for the campaign.” The firm’s press release on Lenzner hailed her revolving door spins: “A Washington native, Lenzner’s career has spanned the worlds of politics and media from the Clinton White House and New York politics to broadcast news and the entertainment and digital media industries.” Lenzner’s revolving comes a month after Jennifer Loven , an 18-year AP veteran and the wire service’s chief White House correspondent, decided to put her communications talents to work for The Glover Park Group, a DC-based “strategic communications firm” founded in 2001 by a bunch of Clinton and Gore staffers, most prominently Joe Lockhart, who found themselves unemployed after the 2000 election. (Obama-media revolving door list: Complete list, now up to 17 . NBC’s Andrea Mitchell Relays Iranian State Spin on Today

NBC’s Andrea Mitchell reporting live from Tehran on Tuesday’s Today show, on the American hikers held hostage in Iran, relayed Iranian government spin, that the Ground Zero mosque protest and controversial Koran “desecrations” have “added to the tension here, the anti-American spirit.” Spurred by a question from substitute anchor Carl Quintanilla about the protests in New York city, Mitchell actually held up one of the state-owned newspapers and relayed that “if the government needed any excuse to drum up more anti-American fever,” they have it, as she noted “all the headlines” in Iran are about the “desecration” and “burning” threats of the Koran. The following segment was aired on the September 14 Today show: CARL QUINTANILLA: But we begin this morning, in Iran, where tense negotiations are underway to free one of the three American hikers detained there for more than a year. NBC’s chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell is in Tehran. Andrea, good morning. ANDREA MITCHELL: Good morning, Carl. As you say it’s been tense, feverish negotiations led by Swiss diplomats here representing the United States and an Iranian lawyer retained by the Shourd family, trying to win her release, trying to get prosecutors to relent on their demand for that bail, $500,000. And it’s been a roller coaster, as you point out. There were plans to release her, then those were retracted. So they’re waiting to see, but there are some signals today that she could be released at any time. And they are, of course, hoping for that to happen. Carl? QUINTANILLA: Andrea the discussions about this, this potential release, the discussions in this country about the would be mosque near Ground Zero, what has all of that done to the political climate there, where you are? MITCHELL: Well it has really added to the tension here, the anti-American spirit. And, in fact, if the government needed any excuse to try drum to up more anti-American fever, you can see the state owned newspapers today, all the headlines are about the desecration threat, the burning threat and also what happened in Washington last weekend, on 9/11, when some pages were torn out of Koran, out of the holy book. That has inflamed the anger here and they are planning big protests today. Carl? QUINTANILLA: NBC’s Andrea Mitchell in Tehran. Andrea, thank you for that.

Conan O’Brien’s Move To TBS Embraced By George Lopez

‘I am completely, 100 percent onboard with this move,’ Lopez says on his TBS show. By Gil Kaufman George Lopez Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images What a difference a few months and a basic cable outlet make. Unlike Conan O’Brien, who decided to walk when NBC asked him to push his show back to make room for the return of Jay Leno to “The Tonight Show,” comedian George Lopez could not be more psyched that his TBS show “Lopez Tonight” will be bumped an hour to accommodate O’Brien’s new talker in the fall. “If you haven’t heard by now, Conan O’Brien will be joining us on late night on TBS. Welcome! Welcome!,” Lopez gushed at the beginning of Monday night’s show. “I want to say that I am completely, 100 percent onboard with this move.

ABC Considering Admitting the Obvious: Good Morning America Isn’t a News Show

Good Morning America was for years produced by ABC’s entertainment division, before people got all huffy about “journalism.” Now, as ABC contemplates what to do after Diane Sawyer departs for World News Tonight , it may be headed back. A source familiar with the discussions inside ABC tells Gawker that among the options Disney/ABC Television Group president Anne Sweeney is considering for GMA is returning some or all of the broadcast to the network’s entertainment division, a move that would simply formalize the de facto devolution of GMA —along with the other the morning newscasts—into a music-and-cooking show dressed up as a news broadcast.
