The Verge: Louis Ozawa Changchien

How do you stand out in the ensemble cast of Predators , which features actors like Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, and Topher Grace? Simple: you bring a big freakin’ samurai sword. As the Yakuza assassin Hanzo, Louis Ozawa Changchien gets what may be the Nimrod Antal-helmed reboot’s most striking scene: a “mano-a-alien” battle royale that draws on Chanchien’s years of Kendo experience. Still, while the swordfighting skill is all his, in real life, Changchien couldn’t be more different: he’s a quick-witted nice guy who’s just as excited about his considerably more down-to-earth roles coming up in Fair Game and Kathryn Bigelow’s new project. Last week, Changchien called up Movieline to discuss those parts as well as one of his earliest roles: a Jell-O pudding commercial opposite Bill Cosby himself that left him battle-scarred in a way far worse than any swordfight gone awry.

Steve Carell Says His Exit Could Be A ‘Good Thing’ For ‘The Office’

‘I have no doubt that it will continue to be as strong if not stronger,’ he tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Steve Carell Photo: MTV News In addition to managing a very busy movie career, Steve Carell has spent the past seven years making audiences cringe and laugh — often at the same time — with the zany and awkward antics of “The Office” boss Michael Scott. When MTV News caught up with the “Despicable Me” voice actor recently, we had to ask why he chose to make this seventh season of the NBC hit comedy his last . “I was always contracted for seven seasons, and I’m going to fulfill my contract,” he said. “I just thought it was time. I’m ready to go.” Carell said his decision to leave is not at all based on being tired of his beloved castmates. “No, that’s not it at all, believe me. It’s really like a family,” he said. “I know that sounds like a clich

Tyler Perry Blames Rainbow Quitter Mariah Carey For Ruining Vacation, Mai Tai

Nothing warms the heart quite like a note from Tyler Perry to his fans, who this morning took a break from pursuing his credit-card hackers to get the lowdown on his sumptuous island getaway with an unnamed “very special friend.” (“We’re sunbathing and swimming, I’m flying my RC planes.”) A sumptuous island getaway which, by the way, Mariah Carey happened to cut short when she suddenly dropped out of his film For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf less than a week before shooting.

Steve Zahn on Treme and the Joys of ‘Magic Time’ in New Orleans

Perhaps the only endeavor more difficult than saving post-Katrina New Orleans was creating a television series that intimately captured the perspective of the disaster-torn city. But that is exactly what Steve Zahn and the ensemble cast of HBO’ s freshman series Treme have done under the guidance of The Wire ‘s David Simon and Eric Overmyer. Zahn portrays a passionate disc jockey and musician whose frustration with the Big Easy’s snail-like rebuilding pace leads to brilliant anti-administration country songs and random displays of passive-aggressive rage. As the series nears the end of its freshman season, Zahn phoned Movieline yesterday from his Kentucky farm to discuss his transition into television, his hope that Treme will cover the BP oil spill and the one biopic he’d love to headline.

Manson and Wood to Splatter Sisters

What do you get when you team studio fence-sitter David Gordon Green, Lost portraitist Marilyn Manson, and his on-again girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood? The new slasher romp Splatter Sisters , which Green will produce with Manson and Wood starring. “This is a role Marilyn Manson was born to play, and with Evan Rachel Wood bringing dramatic gravity to the ensemble, I have no doubt this will take the horror genre to a new level,” Green said. Good, because I think I’ve got enough doubts for the both of us. [ Variety ]
