The Rock of Ages Trailer: Ruining Karaoke For the Rest of Us

Real talk: the new trailer for Adam Shankman ‘s Rock of Ages musical embodies all that people who hate karaoke hate karaoke for. Namely, middle-aged folks blaring through cheesy renditions of their favorite ’80s make-out/rock songs while the rest of us patiently wait for the plaintive strains of Journey to end, already. I say this as a person who likes — nay, loves — karaoke. Sigh. The Twisted Sister/Starship mash-up you really never asked for coming in 3, 2, 1.

Matt Damon Blasts Tony Gilroy’s Bourne Ultimatum Script: ‘It Was Unreadable’

“I don’t blame Tony for taking a boatload of money and handing in what he handed in,” Matt Damon told GQ recently about Gilroy’s script for the third Jason Bourne film, The Bourne Ultimatum — a script Gilroy agreed to write for “an exorbitant amount of money” as long as he only had to provide one draft and pay no regard to studio notes. “It’s just that it was unreadable. This is a career-ender. I mean, I could put this thing up on eBay and it would be game over for that dude. It’s terrible. It’s really embarrassing. He was having a go, basically, and he took his money and left.” Gilroy wrote and directed the latest Bourne film The Bourne Legacy , due in theaters this August with Jeremy Renner starring. New Perfect Sense Trailer: I Can’t See Clearly Now!

Don’t let singer-songwriter Johnny Nash anywhere near the new trailer for the Ewan McGregor movie The Perfect Sense , because it’s a Contagion -style disaster film where everyone loses their senses one by one until they can’t see, hear, smell, taste or — I guess — touch anything. It’s a little hokey and a little hilarious, but with Eva Green (the best Bond girl of all time, period) in tow, there may be some genuine hope for this one. If only I could see or hear it!

Soderbergh at AFI Fest: Angelina Jolie Meets Steven Seagal in Haywire’s Gina Carano

AFI Fest ‘s “secret” screening of Steven Soderbergh ‘s Haywire wasn’t so much a showcase for the AFI darling as it was a coming out party for MMA bruiser-cum-action heroine Gina Carano, whom Soderbergh glimpsed fighting one night on TV and subsequently built a star-studded spy thriller pic around. But it’s hard to say if first-time actor Carano will branch out in a film career beyond the often lo-fi action experiment. Is she a hybrid of Angelina Jolie and Steven Seagal , as Soderbergh suggested Sunday night? Or is there more of a Cynthia Rothrock quality to Carano’s steely gaze and powerhouse physicality?

Check Out the First Official Image from Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire

Steven Soderbergh is retiring. Eventually . Of course, before he does ride off into the sunset the Oscar winning director will release five films: Contagion (recently moved up to early September), Haywire , Magic Mike , The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Liberace . In other words: there’s plenty of Soderbergh left, cinephiles! The second of his final five films to hit theaters is Haywire , and a first image from the action thriller has hit the Internet. Say hello to MMA fighter Gina Carano… and her Uzi.

Big Fish Is Being Made Into a Broadway Musical

Every film from The Goonies to Newsies to Carrie is being adapted into a musical these days, so it’s not terribly surprising that another feature film is getting ready for its Broadway close-up. This time the movie is Big Fish , Tim Burton’s 2003 adaptation of Daniel Wallace’s novel.

Perfect Sense Trailer: Ewan McGregor and Eva Green Have a Cry-Off

In the wake of all those crazy-making I Melt With You teasers , what we really need from our Sundance previews right now is a vessel for some good old-fashioned character and story. The trailer for Perfect Sense , a festival premiere starring Ewan McGregor and Eva Green and directed by David Mackenzie, is not that vessel.

30 Straight Actors Who Have Gone Gay For a Film Role

While Richard Chamberlain and John Travolta might agree that Hollywood is still not a safe place for leading men and women to be open about their sexuality, the entertainment industry has embraced and rewarded the heterosexual men and women willing to play gay on-screen. The latest example is Mickey Rourke, who has confirmed that he too will join that bandwagon by playing Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas (who announced that he was gay just last December) in an upcoming biopic. In honor of this role — which, hell, might win Rourke the Oscar that evaded him for The Wrestler , when he lost to someone on this very list — Movieline reviews which hetero actors have gone gay or transsexual for a role, and which were awarded Academy Awards along the way.

Roman Polanski Reaps Big Rewards At European Film Awards

If there’s one thing Europe loves even more than a charismatic dictator, it’s a convicted sex offender on the lam. Yes, Roman Polanski’s Ghost Writer was the big winner at the European Film Awards last night, nabbing the statue for Best Director, Best Actor (for Ewan McGregor), Best Screenplay and Best Picture, among other accolades. But even though I mock, truth be told, The Ghost Writer is an excellent movie and it’s a bit of shame that it didn’t make a bigger impact over here. A full list of the winners after the break.[ Deadline ]
