Jury Unable To Reach Verdict In Manslaughter Case Against North Carolina Cop Randall Kerrick This case is so sad it looks like there’s not going to be a verdict anytime soon. Via MSNBC reports : A judge in North Carolina on Friday declared a mistrial in a police officer’s 2013 killing of unarmed former college football player Jonathan Ferrell. That means that the voluntary manslaughter charge against Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer Randall “Wes” Kerrick remains open. Kerrick, 29, shot Ferrell, 24, in a confrontation following a traffic accident. The jury of eight women and four men deliberated over four days, taking several votes but never coming close to a unanimous decision on Kerrick’s fate. In its last vote on Friday afternoon, the jury was split 8-4. At around 4:15 p.m. ET. the jury foreman told Judge Richard C. Ervin that the panel was deadlocked. Ervin asked if it would help if they broke for the weekend and returned on Monday, but the jury, in a show of hands, indicated it could go no further. His fate still rests with prosecutors, who must decide whether to seek another trial. The shooting unfolded on Sept. 14, 2013, after Ferrell, who’d once played defensive back for Florida A&M University, crawled from his wrecked car and staggered to a nearby house for help. A woman inside called 911 to report a possible break-in. Kerrick and two other officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the scene. Police dashcam footage showed officers pointing Tasers at Ferrell, who then ran. Kerrick, who’d been an officer for three years, stood in his path. He shouted for Ferrell to get on the ground, then shot Ferrell 10 times. Kerrick said he feared Ferrell was going to hurt him when he opened fire. Authorities charged Kerrick with manslaughter hours after the shooting. The officer’s defense attorney argued at the trial that dents on the home’s door indicated that Ferrell was force his way into the house, and stressed that he could have injured the officers even though he was not armed. But prosecutors said Ferrell wasn’t a threat, and argued that the defense was trying to “demonize” him. They said he did not approach the officers in an aggressive manner, and even if Kerrick felt threatened, he should have used his Taser or fought him off. Kerrick’s jury was racially diverse: seven white members, three blacks and two Latinos. It’s hard being black out here. We can’t even seek help after surviving life threatening car accidents. Do you think the jury should have found Officer Kerrick guilty?
After Ryan McDill got wasted drunk on The Bachelorette season premiere and threatened to rape another contestant, the world shuttered in disgust. We all felt confident, at least, in assuming that no one else would stoop low enough to date a loser like Ryan McDill . But that isn’t true. In fact, McDill is not even a stranger to ladies from The Bachelor franchise! Long before last night’s premiere of The Bachelorette , McDill dated Nikki Ferrell before she appeared on, and went on to win, The Bachelor last year. She tweeted a little bit about the show, but she left out any mention of McDill. We get it, Nikki. We all have that one person we are embarrassed to admit we’ve dated (or in her case, multiple, as Juan Pablo isn’t much better). Ferrell, 28, tweeted Monday, “Shawn B, Tanner, and the guy w the southern drawl, because who really needs to know his name w that accent…” Her lack of comment about Ryan may have just been to keep a cordial relationship with him. But good friends tell the truth. And former Bachelorette and friend of Ferrell took a jab at Ryan. After McDill slapped Kaitlyn Bristowe on the butt and made a rape threat to another (male) contestant, Andi Dorfman tweeted: “And then Ryan never got another date again… Hands off my @kaitlynbristowe ‘ass’ #TheBachelorette.” View Slideshow: The Bachelorette Season 11 Cast! Thankfully, McDill was booted off the show for his behavior. To that Dorfman tweeted, “Papa @chrisbharrison taking care of business! #DadOfTheYear #TheBachelorette.” McDill might not be over Nikki though. When Nikki was on The Bachelor last year, McDill claimed she was the one that got away. Even then, he was criticized as attention-getting and inauthentic. In other words, McDill has always sucked. And we have to really start to question Nikki’s choice in men. Clearly, McDill is a poor choice to say the least. And The Bachelor contestant who gave her the final rose? Juan Pablo Galavis was a womanizer and a player who scandalized the show like never before with his off-putting behavior. Yeah. Let’s all hope McDill never gets another date again and that Nikki gets it together. View Slideshow: The Bachelor Couples: Are They Still Together?
Broadcasting legend and video game namesake John Madden has gifted the world with loads of unintentional humor over the years, such as the many, many times that he pointed out that teams need to score points in order to win football games. Despite all the times Madden has made us laugh, however, it seems that he doesn’t totally understand comedy, as evidenced by his recent criticism of Will Ferrell. You see, Ferrell likes to combine his love of comedy with his love of sports, and the result is usually pretty incredible. Last month, Ferrell hurled a basketball at a cheerleader’s face and the stunt was made no less hilarious by the revelation that he was filming a scene for a movie. Yesterday, Ferrell played for ten different Major League Baseball teams in five different spring training games to raise money for cancer charities. For some reason, this royally pissed Madden off: John Madden Slams Will Ferrell Yes, Madden is bringing the same level of eloquence and insight to his criticism of Ferrell that he brought to his annual, poetic descriptions of the Thanksgiving turducken. It’s not totally clear why Madden didn’t like Ferrell’s fundraising effort, but clarity has never really been Big John’s thing. Saying “boom” a lot – that’s more his thing.
