Fair Or Foul: Photographer Of Gay Pride Recreation Of Iwo Jima Photo Receives Death Theats

Gay Pride Recreation Of Iwo Jima Photo Gets Backlash How far can you take gay pride ?? Via NBC Washington : Joe Rosenthal’s historic photograph depicting five Marines and a Navy corpsman raising the flag on Iwo Jima is one of America’s most iconic war-related images. It is also one of the most parodied images, but a recent depiction of the event sparked fury on social media. On June 26, photographer Ed Freeman posted a picture he took more than a decade ago for the cover of Frontiers, a gay magazine, that shows four male models planting a gay pride flag similarly to how the six soldiers planted the flag at Iwo Jima 70 years ago. Freeman’s Facebook post celebrated the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision to allowing same-sex marriage nationwide. “Altering the American flag colors && trying to remake the “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima” photograph with the gay pride flag is degrading,” one user said. “I get all that gay marriage stuff but to replace the American flag from the iconic Iwo Jima picture, just no,” another post read. Freeman, whose studio is in Los Angeles, told the Post he even received a death threat that he reported to the FBI. “This picture was just a flashpoint for a lot people who are looking for a reason to lash out, so I guess I get to be the whipping boy,” Freeman told the Post about the backlash. “I’m fine with that if that’s what it takes.” The Iwo Jima motif has appeared elsewhere, including to sell beer and promote the Hard Rock Cafe, and its use has been similarly criticized. In 2008, Time magazine was criticized for using an altered version of the Iwo Jima photograph showing soldiers planting a tree. That cover, which was meant to compare the struggle to win the war to the struggle to combat climate change, even drew condemnation from some fellow journalists. Do you think the photo is disrespectful to America??

Miley Cyrus Flashes Back, Tweets Adorable Elementary School Portrait

Miley Cyrus wasn’t always spreading her legs and getting covered in cash. She wasn’t always Twerking, her hair wasn’t always short and blonde and, heck, her name wasn’t always Miley Cyrus. The 20-year old singer posted a new photo to Twitter last night, although it’s really a very old photo of her as an elementary school student in Nashville, back when her first name was “Destiny” and long before her first wrecking ball ride . What prompted the cute release? It’s unclear. She didn’t include a caption. But it would be nearly impossible for Cyrus to pose any more shocking photos at this point. We’ve seen her in ever conceivable pose, position and outfit. So perhaps she simply wanted to find a new way to keep everyone talking about her . It’s working, isn’t it?

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline: Reunited (For Soccer Game)!

Former spouses Britney Spears and Kevin Federline reunited over the weekend at youngest son Jayden James’ soccer game in Woodland Hills, Calif. It really is amazing … this guy slept with her at least two times. Britney Spears, Kevin Federline Reunite The 31-year-old ” Work Bitch ” songbird looked casual in a red turtleneck, skinny jeans, oversized sunglasses, and her hair pulled back in a messy bun. Federline was joined by his daughter, Kori, with Shar Jackson. The couple, who married in 2004 and split in 2006, appeared to be on friendly terms. They stood next to each other, watching the game from the sidelines. There appeared to be tension last month regarding their other son Sean Preston, joining Britney Spears on stage during her upcoming Vegas residency. Federline was not a fan of that idea, but the pop star’s reap later said she was merely “joking” about the possibility of the boy accompanying her on stage. Glad they’re doing well in any case. K-Fed recently married Victoria Prince , with him he also has a new baby. Counting his two with Shar, he’s got five in all. Virile. That is how we would sum up Kevin Federline.

‘Mirror Mirror’ Star Lily Collins Leads An Enchanted Tour

Snow White herself shows off fantastical forest, crumbling village and dwarves’ cottage during MTV News’ set visit. By John Mitchell, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Lily Collins in “Mirror Mirror” Photo: Snow White Productions When “Mirror Mirror” hits theaters March 30, moviegoers will be transported to an enchanted land of snowy forests, old-timey villages and lavish castles for a classic retelling of the Snow White fairy tale. But why wait that long when you can get a sneak peek behind the scenes right now? MTV News’ own Josh Horowitz was lucky enough to visit the “Mirror Mirror” set and received a guided tour from Snow White herself, Lily Collins. “This is where I live,” Collins declared while welcoming MTV News to the snowy forest set of the film. She was quick to caution that, unlike real snow, the white stuff piled throughout the woods wasn’t exactly appetizing. “It’s salt,” she warned. “This is the forest as you can see, obviously. The dwarves’ tree house is somewhere in these woods. The majority of the action takes place here,” Collins explained. “And I’m in big ball gowns running around in this wood. I’m fighting with Armie [Hammer].” From the forest, Collins took MTV News to another soundstage, where a dilapidated village was constructed. The place was in disrepair — and, of course, it was all Julia Roberts’ fault. “It has seen better days, yes,” Collins told MTV News. “The story is that the queen [Roberts] has spent all the money, and so the village is poor.” Next, the 22-year-old “Abduction” actress introduced Josh to the dwarves’ cottage, which features several small beds and a shorter-than-usual kitchen table. “This is the classic, iconic dwarves’ house, as you can tell by the little things around. So much goes on in this house,” the actress said. “Everything from the iconic waking up scene with the dwarves and I [to] Armie — imagine Armie, how tall he is, he is in here quite a bit.” The lovely actress even invited Josh to stay in the cottage. “Don’t you want to stay? Take a little bed up there?” she asked. Alas, none of the beds built for the seven dwarves would be a good fit and Collins knows it, having given them a go herself. “I tried fitting in one of those too; they’re really small,” she admitted. Linkin Park Talk Next Album From Moscow’s Red Square

LP’s performance of ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ single ‘Iridescent’ in historic landmark airs Friday at 8:55 p.m. on all MTV channels. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington (file) Linkin Park’s voluminous A Thousand Suns was a departure, to say the very least. And, from the sound of things, they’re getting ready to depart once again with a brand-new album that’s already in its infancy. At least that’s what Linkin Park told MTV News in Moscow, where they’ll perform the Suns song — and lead single from the “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” soundtrack — “Iridescent” on Friday from the iconic Red Square, in conjunction with the film’s world premiere (a performance that will air on MTV, MTV2, mtvU, VH1 Classic and Palladia at 8:55 p.m. ET/PT). Turns out they’ve been working on new material for months now, and things are finally beginning to take shape. “We’re always writing. It’s hard to explain to people in simple terms what it means to us; the way we do it is a little weird and unique,” LP’s Mike Shinoda said. “We kind of write it and record it at the same time; we can do it on the road at all times. I mean, I was in my hotel room throwing something together at, like, 2 a.m. But what it takes to go from one of those demos to a finished song, I mean, we really obsess over it. It takes a while.” And to that end, Linkin Park said there’s still no firm release date for the new album (which will once again be produced by Rick Rubin), but they do know that it will see the light of day sooner rather than later, which, for them, would be yet another departure. “We do have a really great head start. We’ve got some great music, some good ideas. The creativity has continued to flow for us for the last few years, consistently,” Chester Bennington said. “So, we do plan on having this record out much quicker than what we’ve turned out in the past — that was one of our goals — and I feel like we’re in a really good place now.” Of course, the next logical question would be: What does the new album sound like? And while LP weren’t about to give up all the details (“Right now, it sounds like blips and bleeps and pieces,” Bennington laughed), they’re adamant that it will most certainly sound different than any of their previous efforts … mostly because that’s been the goal with every record they make. “The fans, what they always ask is, ‘What’s it going to sound like?’ ” Shinoda said. “And, for us, when we go into a record, from the beginning until now, the attitude has been ‘We’re going to challenge ourselves, and try to be better songwriters, try and come up with something that’s original.’ And we can’t say, ‘Oh, it’s going to sound like one of our other records,’ because the goal is actually not to do that.” Linkin Park’s Red Square performance will premiere Friday, June 24, at 8:55 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, MTV2, mtvU, VH1 Classic and Palladia.
