Lil Uzi Vert proved a long time ago that he was about the rock star lifestyle — now he has a rock legend co-signing his talent. In a recent interview with Consequence of Sound , Uzi’s idol and rock icon Marilyn Manson revealed that he’s been in talks with the Philly rapper and plans to work with him on a new album. He told the site, “[Uzi] wants to do a rock album next, and I would love to see that happen because I think that he could make a new thing. Not some rock/rap type of thing, something special and new that I think needs to be created just to f*** the world up more.” Manson added, “I think that if I had to pick what Lil Uzi Vert should be, if he’s involved in rock, it’s an early Bad Brains or Faith No More, but with a catchier element. I think he has punk rock in him. He’s a lil’ crazy m*therf*cker. And good. Smart as f*ck. He has an attitude like I did, and I like that about him.” Uzi has never been quiet about his love for the rock legend and his desire to create a more authentic sound. You may recall that at the 2017 Video Music Awards, he performed a mashup of his hit record “XO ToUR Llif3” with Ed Sheeran on guitar and singing the hook. Last week, Taylor dropped “Look What You Made Me Do,” the very first single from her new album … and she blew our minds. Not necessarily because of the quality of the song, which was honestly not so great, but because she had a completely different sound than the old Taylor Swift. Which makes sense, because in the song, she explains that the old Taylor Swift is dead. It was also fun to analyze the lyrics and, a few days later, the music video — she obviously has a big grudge with someone, and the girl left us so many hidden clues and messages. It was like celebrity gossip Christmas, really. Even though it's been over a week now since we first heard the song, people are still talking about it. A lot . Which makes it more than a little surprising that she went ahead and released another single today. The new song is called “…Ready for It,” and while it's still very, very different than what we'd expect from her, this one is a little more familiar than “Look What You Made Me Do.” And that's because this song is a love song. Judging by some of the lyrics, we're guessing this is about her current boyfriend, actor Joe Alwyn . They've been dating since last year, and in a lyric from the first verse, Taylor sings that the object of her affection here is “younger than my exes but he acts like such a man though.” Joe is 26, a year younger than Taylor, and quite a bit younger than many of her previous lovers, men like Tom Hiddleston, Calvin Harris, and John Mayer. There's a chance she could still be pulling inspiration from her relationship with Harry Styles, who is four years her junior, but that would be sad at this point. So let's just say this is about Joe — and if it is, then she seems to be very, very serious about him . So serious that in another part of the song, she sings “Every lover known in comparison is a failure, I forget their names now.” And like, we know she didn't actually forget their names, but this Joe must be pretty darn special, huh? The world has lost yet another legendary musician today … Walter Becker, one of the co-founders of Steely Dan, passed away earlier this morning. He was only 67 years old. The announcement of his death was first made on his personal website, with no other information than the date of his birth and today’s date — the day he passed. As of now, we don’t know the cause of death, but we do know that he was having health problems earlier this summer that caused him to miss some Steely Dan concerts. Donald Fagen, the other co-founder of the band, said in July that ‘Walter’s recovering from a procedure and hopefully he’ll be fine very soon.” Tragically, as we know now, that was not to be the case. Walter and Donald founded Steely Dan together all the way back in 1972, with Walter playing guitar and bass and co-writing the songs with Donald. They were successful up until 1981 when they broke up, but they reunited in 1993, and they’ve been touring since then. Though we don’t have any details about Walter’s death at this time, we do have a touching tribute written by Donald for his longtime bandmate and friend. Read the tribute in full below: Walter Becker was my friend, my writing partner and my bandmate since we met as students at Bard College in 1967. We started writing nutty little tunes on an upright piano in a small siting room in the lobby of Ward Manor, a mouldering old mansion on the Hudson River that the college used as a dorm. We liked a lot of the same things: jazz (from the twenties through the mid-sixties), W.C. Fields, the Marx brothers, science fiction, Nabokov, Kurt Vonnegut, Thomas Berger, and Robert Altman films come to mind. Also soul music and Chicago blues. Walter had a very rough childhood — I’ll spare you the details. Luckily, he was smart as a whip, an excellent guitarist and a great songwriter. He was cynical about human nature, including his own, and hysterically funny. Like a lot of kids from fractured families, he had the knack of creative mimicry, reading people’s hidden psychology and transforming what he saw into bubbly, incisive art. He used to write letters (never meant to be sent) in my wife Libby’s singular voice that made the three of us collapse with laughter. His habits got the best of him by the end of the seventies, and we lost touch for a while. In the eighties, when I was putting together the NY Rock and Soul Review with Libby, we hooked up again, revived the Steely Dan concept and developed another terrific band. I intend to keep the music we created together alive as long as I can with the Steely Dan band. Our condolences to the people close to Walter — it sounds like he will be missed. Every time a new round of explicit photos stolen from a celebrity’s private collection goes public, there’s a renewed outcry to tighten security and ramp up enforcement of existing laws. Unfortunately, most of the time, the perpetrators go unpunished, and it’s typically not long before a new round of celebrity nudes goes public. The latest victim is Justin Bieber, and in a bizarre twist, the singer’s ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez was also victimized by the hackers. According to TMZ, several nude photos of Bieber appeared on Gomez’s Instagram page Monday afternoon. The site reports that the hackers captioned the photo with lewd comments about Bieber and boasts about their hacking abilities. “LOOK AT THIS N-GGA LIL SHRIMPY,” they wrote, before encouraging users to follow three Instagram accounts, each of which only has a handful of posts, but several thousand followers. “We run da scene,” they concluded. The hackers Instagram accounts have been suspended, and their handles are being kept from public view pending an investigation. Gomez quickly deactivated her account after the hack. She is now back on Instagram, and has not yet publicly commented on the incident. Bieber has also not yet commented on the situation, and it’s possible that both singers will simply refuse to acknowledge the hackers, as they seem to be seeking notoriety. This is not the first time that Bieber has been hacked , and sadly, it looks as though it may not be the last. There are those who have argued that like obnoxious paparazzi and over-zealous fans, a lack of digital privacy is just a reality of life as a celebrity in the 21st century. The problem with that argument, of course, is that sharing someone’s nude photos without their consent constitutes a sex crime, and a world where famous people are forced to accept being victimized by sexual predators, is surely one that none of us wants to live in. We don’t pretend to have the answer to the growing problem, but we’re certain that a complacent shrug is not the solution. This time, the photos were removed quickly, but both Justin and Selena have no doubt been left with lingering feelings of vulnerability. Past victims of photo hacking have described feelings of anxiety so intense they were unable to leave their homes. Both celebrities and non-famous folks who have been victims of hacks are acutely aware of a reality that most of us do are best to ignore at 2017: Each of us is more exposed than ever before, and few among of us have any real sense of what it takes to keep out personal data safe. On May 18, the world awakened to the sad news that iconic Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell had passed away unexpectedly after performing at a concert in Detroit. At first, conflicting reports emerged regarding Cornell’s cause of death , but eventually police and medical investigators were able to arrive at a definitive conclusion about the singer’s final hours. To the utter shock of his friends, family, and fans, Chris Cornell had taken his own life . The full results of the investigation , published today by The Detroit Free Press , paint a harrowing scene of a frantic wife enlisting the aid of a bodyguard to try and save her husband’s life from several hundred miles away. Vicky Karayiannis told police that her final conversation with her distraught husband led her to the conclusion that Cornell had fallen off the wagon after several years of sobriety. Fearing the worst, she called his bodyguard from her home in Los Angeles, and asked him to check on Cornell, explaining that the 52-year-old did not sound like he was okay.” Martin Kirsten forcibly entered Cornell’s hotel room, only to find that he was too late.
