Back On The Dude Ranch: Blink-182’s Breakthrough Record Turns 20

The first words uttered on Blink-182’s second full-length LP, 1997’s Dude Ranch, are spit out with a self-protective speed. “I know I’m pathetic / I knew when she said it,” bassist Mark Hoppus hisses. His partner in crime, guitarist Tom DeLonge, chimes in with his own sad-sack line before Hoppus can take a breath: “A… Read more »

Chris Cornell Funeral: Wife Pens Heartbreaking Letter Prior to Farewell

Prior to laying her husband to eternal rest, Chris Cornell’s wife wrote a public letter to her husband on Wednesday that was published by Billboard.com We’ve shared it below. But be warned: it will almost definitely make you cry. One week after the former Soundgarden and Audioslave singer killed himself  following a show in Detroit, Vicky Cornell addressed the artist directly on a moving message. “To my sweet Christopher, you were the best father, husband and son-in-law,” she wrote, adding: “Your patience, empathy and love always showed through. You had always said I saved you, that you wouldn’t be alive if it were not for me. “My heart gleamed to see you happy, living and motivated. Excited for life. Doing everything you could to give back. “We had the time of our lives in the last decade and I’m sorry, my sweet love, that I did not see what happened to you that night. I’m sorry you were alone, and I know that was not you, my sweet Christopher. “Your children know that too, so you can rest in peace.” Cornell battled a substance abuse problem for years prior to passing away. A friend recently came out and said the star was high during his final performance . As is the case with any suicide, we’ll likely never have all the answers to every question, but Vicky is determined to keep a positive memory of her husband. She concluded her open letter as follows: I’m broken, but I will stand up for you and I will take care of our beautiful babies. I will think of you every minute of every day and I will fight for you. You were right when you said we are soulmates. It has been said that paths that have crossed will cross again, and I know that you will come find me, and I will be here waiting. I love you more than anyone has ever loved anyone in the history of loving and more than anyone ever will. Always and forever, your Vicky. Cornell’s death has officially been ruled a suicide by hanging. He was cremated in Los Angeles on Tuesday, May 22 and he will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Friday, May 26. The singer’s body was found in a hotel bathroom by a family friend after Vicky had not heard from him in hours. She grew concerned and asked this acquaintance to try and track Cornell down. The couple has two kids together and Vicky told TMZ the day after this tragedy that she saw no signs in the weeks preceding it that Cornell was in such a bad place. Cornell had checked into a rehab facility in 2013 and Vicky said last week she believed her husband remained clean ever since. Vicky thinks that prescription drugs may have played a part in her husband’s death. In a previous statement, the grieving mother wrote that Cornell would never intentionally hurt his family by taking his own life. “I noticed he was slurring his words; he was different. When he told me he may have taken an extra Ativan or two, I contacted security and asked that they check on him,” Vicky said at the time. “What happened is inexplicable and I am hopeful that further medical reports will provide additional details.” View Slideshow: Chris Cornell: Mourned, Remembered by Stars Everywhere The couple got married in 2004 and are the parents of daughter Toni, 12, and son Christopher, 11. Cornell is also father to 16-year-old daughter Lillian from a previous marriage. May he rest in peace.

Chris Cornell: Were Drugs Involved In His Death?

Yesterday, the world awoke to the sad news that Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell had been found dead in a Detroit hotel room just hours after performing for a sell-out crowd. It was later revealed that Cornell’s cause of death was suicide by hanging, and the initial police report was confirmed by Wayne County medical examiners on Thursday evening. While suicide often comes as an utter shock to the victim’s loved ones, Cornell’s wife Vicky says that she’s stunned to the point that she doesn’t fully accept the medical examiner’s ruling. Vicky has reportedly told friends that in all their time together, Chris never gave any indication that he was depressed or inclined toward self-harm. In a statement issued today , Vicky revealed that she became concerned after speaking with him on the night of his death, but not because he sounded suicidal. Vicky says that “Chris was slurring his words” in their second phone conversation of the night, and she became concerned when he revealed that he “may have taken an extra Ativan or two.” Ativan is a brand name for lorazepam, an anti-anxiety medication that’s often used to treat symptoms of withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs. Chris struggled with addiction throughout much of his adult life, but sources say he hasn’t had a drink or consumed in illicit substance since he checked into rehab back in 2003. Now, lawyers for the family are taking action to ensure that the investigation continues in order to determine if drugs played a role in Chris’ decision to commit suicide. “The family believes if Chris took his life, he did not know what he was doing, and that drugs or other substances may have affected his actions,” reads a statement issued by Cornell family attorneys just moments ago. Those who encountered Cornell in his final hours say the singer seemed upbeat and excited for the future.  But fans at his final concert noted that there was an elegiac tone to the night’s performance: “My first impression was that Chris was more joyous than I’d ever seen him before,” attendee Ken Settle tells People magazine.  “He’d always been, back in the early days especially, kind of a brooding performer, more introspective, sometimes looking down at his guitar most of the time with his hair in his face. At this show, it was the opposite of that.” Settle notes that there were two details that he finds morbid in retrospect: Settle says that while bantering with the crowd, Cornell commented, “I feel really sorry for the next city,” a remark that may have had an ominous tone. In a statement issued today, Vicky Cornell thanked fans for their support and paid tribute to Chris as a devoted husband and father: “Chris’s death is a loss that escapes words and has created an emptiness in my heart that will never be filled,” Vicky said. “As everyone who knew him commented, Chris was a devoted father and husband. He was my best friend. His world revolved around his family first and of course, his music, second.” She concluded: “The outpouring of love and support from his fans, friends, and family means so much more to us than anyone can know. Thank you for that, and for understanding how difficult this is for us.” Chris Cornell Dead: Watch His Final, Tragic Performance

Tim Allen: Hollywood is Like Nazi Germany!

To many people, Tim Allen is known for his role on the classic, beloved sitcom Home Improvement, or for providing the voice for Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story movies. Or maybe you know him best from The Santa Clause, or his work as a comedian, or from any other of his many endeavors in the entertainment world. But after watching this new interview he did on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, you might remember him best as a Donald Trump supporter . And that's … well, it is what it is, we suppose. Tim started out this segment of the interview by very, very hesitantly admitting that he attended Trump's inauguration. “You gotta be real careful around here,” he laughed, referring to Hollywood. “You get beat up if you don't believe what everybody believes. This is like '30s Germany.” He then went on to explain how Google Maps and iPhones are tools of the government used to spy on people, so … Look, Tim can believe whatever he wants to believe, obviously. If he's a Trump supporter, then good for him. But maybe the issue he's experiencing isn't so much “like '30s Germany” as it is an issue of people strongly disagreeing with Trump's backwards views and then assuming his supporters share those views. You can appreciate and support people with different beliefs than yours, but if those beliefs are ones you find deeply morally wrong , then it makes things harder. Check out Tim's interview below:
