Real Life Quarterback Princess Wins Football Game, Homecoming Crown in Same Night

Back in 1983, a young Helen Hunt starred in the CBS telefilm Quarterback Princess , the true story of a plucky Oregonian teenager named Tami Maida who made it onto her high school’s all-male football team and nabbed the homecoming queen crown, marking a triumphant moment for female athletes. Last week, Brianna Amat of Pinckney, Michigan did the same; after being crowned at halftime during homecoming, the 18-year-old returned to the field to win the game for her team.

REVIEW: Beastly, Despite Its Heartthrob Stars, Is Hardly Pretty

A teen-idol vehicle with the ultimate aim of leaving the young misses combusting in the aisles, Beastly takes little care with its task, dumping gasoline and gun powder where it might rig a modest array of fireworks. A twist on the Beauty and the Beast story that turns a cyborg-handsome high schooler’s pernicious vanity into a teachable moment, Beastly manages to show you all the ways it might have worked by missing every available mark, sometimes by the gaping expanse between Alex Pettyfer’s ears, sometimes only by the feline curl of Vanessa Hudgens’ smile.

First Look at Red Skull in Captain America Confirms Red Skull

When the first trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger debuted during the Super Bowl last month, Movieline HQ was buzzing with the blink-and-you-missed-him glimpse at Hugo Weaving-as-Red Skull . That skull! It was so… red . Now, courtesy of EW , comes the first official look at the villainous Nazi supersoldier — no screencapping necessary! So, how does he look?

DVD: The Weird Faces on Reboot and the Growing Pains of Computer Animation

There’s nothing weirder than someone else’s nostalgia. Case in point: The animated series ReBoot (the first two seasons of which Shout! Factory is releasing on DVD this week), hailed as the first completely computer-animated half-hour TV series. If you were young enough to be watching Saturday morning cartoons in 1994, when the series debuted, you may be excited about revisiting Guardian Bob and his adventures in protecting the Mainframe from Megabyte. Those of us without fond memories are more likely to look at this rudimentary animation and cringe a bit at how far the medium has come in a relatively short time.

8 Oscar Winners and the Horrible Movies They Did Next

An Oscar is a funny thing. Winning one means you’re a respected thespian, but as 1966’s Best Supporting Actress Sandy Dennis once noted, it also means you can’t be new again. Some Oscar-winners find themselves taking less-than-stellar roles after their big night at the Kodak, and we’re commemorating eight whose next trip to the silver screen was a marked downgrade.

See How Many Armless-Surfing Shots You Can Spot in the Soul Surfer Teaser

Apparently Soul Surfer tells the inspiring story of Bethany Hamilton, “who lost her arm in a shark attack and courageously overcame all odds to become a champion again, through her sheer determination and unwavering faith.” That’s a hell of a true story. Good luck figuring it out from this first teaser trailer though! This preview looks more like the inspiring story of attractive kids hanging out at the beach and surfing and then hanging out with Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid. So just how did this genius marketing team manage to cut a trailer for a film where the protagonist is missing an arm without actually ever showing the one-armed girl? Well, upon closer inspection, they didn’t quite manage it, but points for effort! I’ve provided screen shots after the jump in case you blinked.

The World’s Shortest Interview With Matthew Morrison

Last night, Fox hosted a party in Pasadena for the TCA Press Tour and nearly all of the Glee cast members stopped by (except for — cough, cough — Lea Michele). It was a feeding frenzy for the nation’s television journalists and when Matthew Morrison appeared at the event, like Fox-branded chum being thrown into violent waters, he was immediately swarmed by critics wielding tape recorders. Movieline braved the chaos and came out with the world’s shortest interview with Matthew Morrison ever. Enjoy, though be warned: White-rapping was discussed.
