But pulling over to the side of the road for a break is nothing compared to landing a plane in the middle of a California highway. According to NBC7 San Diego , a single-engine plane had to make an emergency landing last Friday due to an engine failure mid-flight. The aircraft was piloted by a 36-year-old flight student and a 25-year-old instructor. When the engine started having problems, the student handed over the reigns to the instructor, and they landed the plane right in the middle of Interstate 8 in El Cajon. No cars were hit and no one was injured. “For them to make that landing and have nobody else involved in it, I’d say that’s a miracle,” said California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow. Boss. A couple managed to capture the amazing landing stunt on video, which you can check out here .
WENN Derek Fisher Charged With Two Counts Of DUI For June 4th Crash On June 4th, Derek Fisher was arrested after he lost control of a Cadillac Escalade, flipping the vehicle at 3AM on the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles. His girlfriend Gloria Govan was in the passenger seat, but neither of them nor anyone else was injured in the accident. Luckily the car had an OnStar system that connected them to highway patrol within seconds, and audio shows Gloria letting them know everything is fine. Not so surprisingly, this crash happened because Fisher was driving while smaaaackkkeddd. He was charged with two counts of DUI for this incident and if convicted, could face up to 6 months in jail–however, this is Fisher’s first offense, so he likely wont even make it behind bars. These two got very lucky to experience such an intense crash and be able to walk away from the scene scratch-free, though the Escalade can’t say the same. Fisher has since been seen out and about in LA and is adamant that he will never make this kind of mistake again.
Kim Kardashian was pulled over on an L.A. freeway today, and it caused more pandemonium than the first time the Kim Kardashian sex tape dropped. Okay, not that much pandemonium. But seriously, everything Kim does is becoming an absolute circus these days. And all because of Ray J! Amazing. Anyway, today the star was pulled over for speeding while trying to evade multiple cars (five, according to reports) driven by paparazzi members. Insane. Not as insane as the fake video of Kanye West attacking paparazzi , but insane. All to get a pic of a reality star famous for a sex tape. Wild. The craziest part? After K-squared pulled over, the paps jumped out of their vehicles in the middle of a freeway to get the money shot, snarling traffic. A paparazzi helicopter was even hovering overhead. Just bedlam. Police are NOT HAPPY, believing the paps risked multiple lives with their maneuvers. Kim Kardashian, all other drivers on the road, and the officers involved were all put at risk, officials believe, by the increasingly aggressive shutterbugs. The California Highway Patrol cited one of the photographers for speeding, but the rest got away. The CHP is reportedly now looking into the incident further. Kim, meanwhile, also got a ticket for speeding. Kanye, while he wasn’t seen beating up cops in the aforementioned video (also below), is no doubt thinking about it after hearing what went down today … Kanye West Attacks Paparazzi?

CHP officials say the driver is cooperating with their investigation.” Covey, who graduated from college and passed her CPA exam at age 19, was ranked No. 28 on Fortune ‘s Most Powerful Women in Business list. Eventually she linked up with Amazon. In 1996, Fortune wrote, “following an interlude in Silicon Valley, Covey arrived in Seattle, pumped at the prospect of being a pioneer.” Covey said: “Amazon was then an unproven e-commerce curiosity. ‘I thought, Wouldn’t it be great to build one of those new business models like Microsoft or Intel or Dell?” Covey was an unusually influential finance chief, working with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to recruit management and steer the company into businesses far beyond books. Says Bezos: “I can budget only four days a year to talk to investors, so Joy has been Amazon.com’s primary contact with Wall Street. In the Internet space, that’s really unusual.” “She’s doing what a CEO would normally do.'” Covey led Amazon’s [1997] IPO, counseling impatient Wall Street analysts to expect more red ink before profitability. It didn’t take long to right the ship. By the time she retired in 2000, Covey’s net worth was $200 million. Amazon now has 97,000 employees and a market capitalization of $142.6 billion. The Times adds that “Amazon went public on May 14, 1997, with an initial public offering price of $18. Shares closed [Wednesday] at a record $312.06. In recent years, Covey was working as the treasurer for an environmental group. Covey also established the Beagle Foundation, which gives funding to environmental causes.”
Lord, pray for them. Southern California Wildfire Prompts Evacuation According to CNN A Southern California wildfire grew from 10 acres to more than 6,500 acres in a mere five hours Thursday, prompting the evacuation of homes and the campus of California State University Channel Islands, officials said. Winds reaching 25 mph aided the Springs Fire in Ventura County, and weather conditions grounded fixed-wing air tankers, allowing only helicopters to drop water, fire officials said. The blaze was 0% contained Thursday evening, officials said. Meanwhile, authorities late Thursday afternoon reopened a nine-mile leg of California’s scenic Pacific Coast Highway just north of Malibu, the California Highway Patrol said. The patrol had shut it down for a few hours as the fire threatened to approach the coast. That affected portions of the highway that runs between the ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains. The fire was one of two wildfires that firefighters were battling in the Los Angeles area. The other one was east of the city in Riverside County. The Ventura County blaze prompted the evacuation of homes in Newbury Park, fire authorities said. More than 850 fire and law personnel were assigned to the growing conflagration that began near Camarillo, where Cal State Channel Islands is located. The university campus will remain closed through Friday, the school said. Equipment included 96 fire engines, six helicopters and three fixed-wing aircraft, authorities said. In the evacuated Dos Vientos neighborhood, firefighters took a preventive posture beside million-dollar, Spanish mission style houses with red tile roofs. Flare-ups rose 15 feet behind backyards, but no houses had caught fire by about noon local time. These wildfires keep getting crazier and crazier. Shutterstock
Police Consider Charging Man Who Shut Down Freeway For Marriage Proposal A man who pulled out all the stops to pop the question to his girlfriend on a bust California freeway may be facing fines or jail time. via Yahoo News Police in California say they’re mulling over charges against a motorcyclist who orchestrated the shutdown of a freeway outside Los Angeles so he could propose to his girlfriend. The stunt, captured in a video posted to YouTube, occurred Sunday on the 10 Freeway in West Covina, Calif., 20 miles east of L.A. The video shows several hundred motorcyclists slow to a stop and then surround a biker who promptly released a plume of pink smoke, removed his helmet and dropped to one knee to propose to his girlfriend, who had been riding on the back of the bike. She appeared to be shocked by the proposal, but she accepted it. Some bikers pumped their fists and others did wheelies as they rode away ahead of the husband-and-wife to-be, with most exiting the freeway at the next off-ramp. Traffic, which had been backed up in both directions, soon began flowing again. The California Highway Patrol said on Wednesday it is investigating the incident and that felony charges for impeding traffic could be filed. “It’s dangerous when you do something like that,” CHP Sgt. Kurt Stormes told the San Bernardino Sun. “You’ve got free-flowing traffic. Suddenly traffic comes to a stop and people don’t know what happened, and that’s when accidents happen.”
