My Favorite Blues Playlist

I recently realized that I have not yet shared with you any of my favorite blues music.  Blues is one of – if not my favorite – types of music.  As I’ve mentioned before, I occasionally deal with insomnia, and so usually play the blues when I can’t get to sleep at night.  Below I have included some of my favorite blues songs and artists; however, I encourage everyone to explore this genre on your own because there are many, many great artists here to be discovered!  Also, B.B. King’s “The Thrill Is Gone” is one of my top five favorite songs of all time. We’ll be back on the road soon! Click here for the playlist.

Raisin’ McCain

A few months ago, we attended one of Dad’s Town Halls at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. There we met country music star John Rich, half of the great Nashville duo, Big & Rich.  John fired up the crowd by performing some of his hit songs before Dad spoke and he has been enormously supportive of his campaign ever since.  In fact, John has written, produced and recorded an original song called “Raisin’ McCain.” It’s about Dad’s life that will hopefully inspire listeners and excite a new audience about the campaign. It’s a great track, so be sure to click here and download it today!

Pennsylvania

We spent today in Pennsylvania, joined by former Governor Tom Ridge. We started off by touring General Electric Transportation’s Erie plant and hybrid locomotive production line. We met many of the employees and were able to see the new hybrid locomotive they designed. I met Jeff Immelt, GE Chairman and CEO, and watched Dad conduct an employee town hall at the facility. From there we flew to Harrisburg where he participated in some local interviews and attended a finance event. It was another great day on the trail! Day Three

We started the day at a People Magazine photo shoot that took place in a ballroom at the hotel.  It was like a movie set where the “prop masters” even had framed family photos on the tables in the mock living room setting. It was also one of the first times in a while where we had the entire family in one room at the same time, due to so many different competing schedules and commitments.  It was like a mini-family reunion but with the bright lights and shutters of the cameras clicking nonstop. Before we knew it, the shoot was over and it was time to head over to the Xcel Energy Center and watch Governor Palin deliver her amazing speech.  John Rich closed the night’s session with a rocking performance of his song, “Raisin’ McCain.” I’m living the dream, baby! New York City

I just got into New York City last night in preparations for some exciting promotions for the book about Dad. Tomorrow morning I’ll be on both The Today Show and The View! I am excited about both and of course a little nervous as well. Be sure to watch and I’ll be back with some behind the scenes impressions tomorrow.

Overwhelmed

Well, it was quite a day to say the least. Being interviewed on the Today Show and The View this morning were very humbling experiences. As a regular viewer, I know how many people watch these shows and are curious about some of the answers given by the guests. Well, having experienced the “hot seat” for myself, I can tell you it can be a bewildering and overwhelming experience. I want to clarify my comments about my family “understanding war unlike any other”. My family understands the demands of war, in reference to our family’s generations of service to the nation, including that of my grandfather, father and brothers. But obviously, there are many American families that have made, and are making, the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of defending freedom. And those families and those sacrifices should be honored above all else. I regret my comments as they were delivered. I certainly did not mean to diminish the sobering fact of these families’ sacrifices in any way. If nothing else, I hope this brings greater attention to the suffering these families endure when the unthinkable happens. I will certainly work to do a better job of calming my own nerves while being a newcomer on the media circuit. And thanks to everyones’ kind words of support throughout the day.

Sacrifice

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve met so many wonderful people at convention and my book signings.  What has affected me the most are the inspiring stories told and sent to me from veterans who admire my dad and have their own incredible stories to share. They are humbling, inspiring and unforgettable.  One of the most moving is the YouTube video below that hundreds of people have sent to me. I think it speaks for itself and I encourage everyone to watch and share.

Ground Zero

Yesterday we accompanied Mom and Dad to a September 11th memorial ceremony at Ground Zero in New York City. Mom and Dad met with Senator Obama and they accompanied New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg to the temporary memorial that exists in the middle of the construction site where the towers once stood. It was a day of somber reflection and remembrance.

New Jersey

For the weekend, here’s a gallery of pics from a book signing I did in New Jersey this past week. I started the day doing some radio interviews, which incidentally seem to me so much easier to do than televised ones. I’ve been so grateful for all the supportive fans of the site, and for my Dad and family who have come out to these events. I enjoy meeting the kids and teenagers who have turned out to meet us, along with their families, including some very sweet grandmothers! Song of the Day: “Come Dance With Me” by Frank Sinatra

Larry King LIVE

When I was told that I would be interviewed on “Larry King Live” as part of my book tour, I was stunned. I’m one of the millions of Americans who grew up watching him host his iconic show on CNN. In person, the vintage microphone, trademark suspenders, and “Lite-Brite” world map appear just as you would expect. I was thankful to have had a full week of doing interviews under my belt before sitting down with Mr. King. Due to CNN rules, we weren’t able to take cameras into the studio, but they were nice enough to provide these great screen shots for the site. Song of the Day: “I Live in L.A.” by CoCo B’s
