Oprah Winfrey: If Trump Can Be President, So Can I!

To say most folks were a bit surprised when Donald Trump was elected president on November 8 would be like saying you’d be a tad caught off guard if a venomous viper leapt out of your screen right now and opened your jugular.  Trump’s successful campaign flew in the face of not only all conventional wisdom and methods of polling, but also common sense: Surely, a 70-year-old reality star with no political experience  and a bad habit of engaging in petty Twitter feuds could never be elected to arguably the most powerful office in the world, right? But Trump’s campaign defied all reason and logic, and it may have permanently blurred the lines between the worlds of entertainment and politics. Sure, actors, writers, athletes, and comedians have entered the political realm before with varying degrees of success, but never before had an American gone straight from Hollywood to the White House without first proving himself in a lower office. Needless to say, it’s a development that’s got political analysts and celebrities alike wondering about the new possibilities presented by the age of Trump. And one beloved A-lister who had previously ruled out a public office might be suddenly reconsidering her options. In a recent interview on his Bloomberg Television series, interviewer David Rubinstein broached the topic of Oprah Winfrey following in the Donald’s footsteps: “Have you ever thought that given the popularity you have, we haven’t broken the glass ceiling yet for women, that you could actually run for president and be elected?” Rubinstein asked the iconic media tycoon. “I actually never thought that that was, I never considered the question even a possibility,” Winfrey answered. She then paused and smiled at the audience as though experiencing a sudden revelation. “I just thought, ‘Oh. Oh,” she explained. “Right, because it’s clear that you don’t need government experience to be elected President of the United States, right?” Rubinstein added pointedly. “That’s what I thought,” said Winfrey. “I thought, ‘Oh gee, I don’t have the experience. I don’t know enough. I don’t…’ And now I’m thinking, ‘Oh. Oh.’” Was the Queen of Daytime TV joking, or has Trump’s victory made her consider the possibility of throwing her hat in the ring in 2020? Obviously, it might be a few years before we find out for sure, but we’d like to take this opportunity to encourage Oprah to go for it. After all, if we’re gonna have a president who’s never held any sort of public office before, it might as well be one who enjoys giving out free cars. Now, that’s what we call an auto bailout!

In White Folks News: NY Mag Editor Puts Mayor Bloomberg On Blast For Staring At Woman’s Cakes…”Look At The Azz On Her!”

Who doesn’t like a nice looking a$$?! According to NyDailyNews: Mayor Bloomberg was more focused on buns than guns at a recent holiday party, a new magazine report claims. While Hizzoner has been all over the airways pushing gun control, a New York magazine reporter says the mayor was far more interested in ogling a woman’s behind than discussing the issue at a recent holiday party. Scribe Jonathan Van Meter says a friend who accompanied him to the party made a point of thanking the mayor for his work on gun control. “Without even acknowledging the comment, Bloomberg gestured toward a woman in a very tight floor-length gown standing nearby and said, ‘Look at the ass on her,’ ” Van Meter wrote. The line appeared in Van Meter’s lengthy profile of City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who is a frontrunner in the race to succeed Bloomberg in City Hall. Quinn is quoted in the article telling the magazine that Bloomberg has also offered sharp critiques of her own style, turning up his nose when she chooses flats over high heels or waits too long before touching up her red hair. She said of Bloomberg, “he’s got a potty mouth.” She also said that she has a “good relationship” with him. Nice. SMH. WENN

Zuccotti Park Cleared By Police

NYPD swept in early Tuesday morning and arrested 70 protesters. By Gil Kaufman Workers clean up Zuccotti Park in New York City after police removed Occupy Wall Street protesters on Tuesday morning Photo: Spencer Platt/ Getty Images The end of the Occupy Wall Street protest in New York’s Zuccotti Park came swiftly, loudly and under the cover of night. Without warning, the New York Police Department swooped down early Tuesday (November 15) morning on the protester camp in the city park and ordered its residents to clear out or face arrest. The squatters, who had occupied the park since September 17 in a protest against economic inequality in the U.S. that helped spark a national and international movement, were told that the camp was to be “cleared and restored” by morning and that they could return at a later time. According to The New York Times the 200 protesters who remained in Zuccotti (which they’d renamed “Freedom Park”) initially resisted the police action and met officers with chants of “whose park? Our park!” But as police moved in and began tearing down tents and removing the encampment, the occupiers retreated to a central area and tried to barricade themselves behind tables and scraps of wood. Click through to “Voices From Occupy Wall Street” — our interactive photo gallery — and get to know 20 young demonstrators’ motivations, hopes and goals. The effort to clear out the public park in began around 1 a.m. and though dozens of occupiers left over the next few hours, a number refused, locking arms and ignoring police orders to evacuate. Two hours into the action helmeted officers moved in and pulled the remaining squatters out one-by-one and handcuffed them, with more than 70 arrested in the action. Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office Tweeted about the removal around 1:19 a.m., saying, “Occupants of Zuccotti should temporarily leave and remove tents and tarps. Protesters can return after the park is cleared.” Bloomberg, who was scheduled to discuss the action on Tuesday morning, later issued a statement explaining the action. “I have become increasingly concerned — as had the park’s owner, Brookfield Properties — that the occupation was coming to pose a health and fire safety hazard to the protestors and to the surrounding community,” Bloomberg said. “We have been in constant contact with Brookfield and yesterday they requested that the City assist it in enforcing the no sleeping and camping rules in the park. But make no mistake — the final decision to act was mine.” Even as Bloomberg ordered the park cleared, he noted that protesters would still be able to gather there, but would be banned from setting up tents and sleeping bags. Residents of the area and workers who travel through the perimeter of the park have been complaining for weeks that the occupation has interrupted their lives due to noise, congestion and the barricading of sidewalks. “Protestors have had two months to occupy the park with tents and sleeping bags,” Bloomberg said. “Now they will have to occupy the space with the power of their arguments.” In addition to international headlines, the protests drew the attention of a number of celebrities who came down to the camp to visit and get a glimpse at the movement. Among the artists who made their way to Zuccotti over the past few months are Talib Kweli and Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Susan Sarandon, Tom Morello, folk icon Pete Seeger, actor Mark Ruffalo, film maker Michael Moore, Joan Baez, Jay-Z , Katy Perry, Russell Brand and Russell Simmons. The move in New York comes as other cities have begun cracking down on Occupy protesters, with police in Oakland , Salt Lake City and Portland, Oregon forcefully taking action against the sit-ins. According to My Fox New York , some occupiers moved to another city park around 10 blocks north of Zuccotti on Tuesday morning, setting up shop in Foley Square. The new location is just blocks from City Hall. Related Videos Inside Occupy Wall Street ‘True Life: I’m Occupying Wall Street’ Preview
