ESPN Graphics Producer Ted Brown Dead At 36 This weekend ESPN suffered a major loss when 36-year-old graphics producer Ted Brown was unable to be revived after being hit with a heart attack while covering the Australian Open in Melbourne. Broadcaster Chris Fowler delivered a moving speech dedicated to his colleague, who was described by coworkers as “a complete professional” and an excellent karaoke singer: Our friend and colleague, Ted Brown, is gone much too soon. Study Shows 47% Of Black Men In Chicago Are Neither In School Nor Working A new study shows that almost half of all young African American men in Chicago are neither in school or unemployed according to Chicago Tribune reports: Forty-seven percent of 20- to 24-year-old black men in Chicago, and 44 percent in Illinois, were out of school and out of work in 2014, compared with 20 percent of Hispanic men and 10 percent of white men in the same age group, according to the report from the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Great Cities Institute. The numbers for black men are far worse in Chicago and Illinois than elsewhere in the country. In Los Angeles and New York City, 31 percent of black 20- to 24-year-old men were out of school and out of work, in line with the national average of 32 percent. While declines in youth employment across all races have raised concerns for a number of years, the new report puts into stark focus the connection between unemployment and Chicago’s racially segregated neighborhoods that also are home to high rates of poverty and crime. The report shows the highest concentration of youth unemployment is in neighborhoods on the city’s South and West sides, especially Fuller Park, Englewood, East Garfield Park and North Lawndale, each of which is more than 90 percent black. And this time, The Big O isn’t so innocent. According to Radar Online, Oprah Winfrey has been caught telling varying stories about her “secret son.” Winfrey confessed to Entertainment Tonight that she first became a mother-like figure to Calvin Mitchell in the 90s when he was 11. Mitchell approached Winfrey on a Chicago movie set. After their encounter, Oprah tried to adopt him. She even tried to send him to a private school away from his biological family. However, Mitchell became homesick and left the school. When he dropped out of the expensive school, Oprah decided to abandon the child because he couldn’t live up to her expectations. In the October 29 interview with Entertainment Tonight , Oprah said she opted out of meeting with the now 35-year-old Mitchell because Radar arranged an earlier meeting between Oprah and her son. But the mega-celeb brushed him off. The 61-year-old star also failed to tell Entertainment Tonight that she has repeatedly given Mitchell the cold shoulder. In 2009, the Illinois truck driver attempted to approach Oprah at a free concert along Chicago’s Michigan Ave. Oprah was the sponsor of the event. After he managed to slip past security, Oprah told him to give his phone number to one of the bodyguards. Mitchell gave his number, but Oprah never called him. Mitchell has also left countless messages for her at Harpo Studios, but she refuses to return his calls. The repeated and failed attempts to make contact with Oprah prompted Mitchell to ask Radar Online for help. He wants to know why Oprah abandoned him when he was 17-years-old. “The only reason I went to the media was because it was the only way I could get her attention,” he told Radar. “I wanted to ask Oprah, ‘Why did you leave me? Why did you leave me?’” It appears that no one in the Winfrey family will acknowledge Mitchell. Even Oprah’s father, Vernon Winfrey, refuses to meet his secret grandson. “I’m all right if I don’t meet him,” the elder Winfrey told Radar. “It doesn’t matter!”

Tough coaching is one thing, but the University of Illinois Women’s Basketball team and the football team each allege that coaches not only segregated Black players from the rest, but bullied them with racial slurs and taunts, even forcing Black players to practice and participate while injured. Via CNN : They called it the “dog pound.” It was a separate practice for women’s basketball players at the University of Illinois, a majority of them black, where athletes were often allegedly harassed and attacked for things that had nothing to do with basketball. Like the neighborhoods where they grew up. Or their family life.
