Jackie Evancho Album Sales Are Doing the Opposite of What Donald Trump Claims

As previously noted, Donald Trump has failed to attract any big names to perform at his Presidential inauguration on January 20. He claims A-Listers want to appear at the event, but he’s been turning down their requests because they did “NOTHING” for Hillary Clinton are are not “real PEOPLE.” Trump has managed to secure Jackie Evancho for the inauguration, however, giving a major platform to the former America’s Got Talent runner-up and significantly increasing the Google search frequency of the following question: Who the heck is Jackie Evancho?!? She’s someone who is on the rise, Trump claims. She’s a singer with a bright future whose decision to make herself front and center for The Donald’s big day this month is paying off, Trump argues. Bigly, he seems to think. On Wednesday night, Trump once again focused on something very important via his Twitter account, touting Evancho’s impressive album sales ever since she announced her inauguration participation. “Jackie Evancho’s album sales have skyrocketed after announcing her Inauguration performance,” the President-Elect wrote, adding: “Some people just don’t understand the “Movement.” We guess not. But other people just don’t understand basic math. Which could maybe be forgiven or ignored if one of these people was not going to become the 45th President of the United States in just a few weeks. Because Jackie Evancho’s album sales have not skyrocketed. They’ve done the complete opposite of skyrocket. They’ve plummeted. In bigly fashion. To be specific, Evancho has fallen 41 spots on the Billboard 200 in just a week: Now, we don’t mean to heap criticism on a 16-year old or to highlight her failure. Really, we don’t. We can understand the bind she was in, unsure how to propel her career to the next level and figuring that a prominent spot at a Presidential inauguration was too tempting to pass up. That’s fine. We get it. And it’s far more disturbing to the safety of the United States when Trump is lying about Russian hacking and CIA intelligence briefings than when he’s lying about the success or failure of a particular artist. But still. Come on! Is Trump unaware that Billboard and other outlets actually track album sales? That this was such a ridiculously blatant misleading of the public because it was so easy to fact-check? We’ve spent far too long trying to get inside Donald Trump’s brain already here, haven’t we? At this point, it should be clear that anyone trying to make sense out of anything Trump does is wasting is or her time. As actual successful singer  Bruce Springsteen recently said , we should be spending far more time being afraid of what Trump may do and take whatever steps we can to prevent it. Call your Congressman. Attend a rally. Get out and vote in the mid-term elections next year. Reporters, slam Trump as a liar every single time he lies. And Jackie Evancho? Just keep your head down and sing your heart out.  We feel for you. But this is not going to help your career, no matter what Trump seems to believe. INTERVIEW: Robert Redford & Jackie Evancho Discuss ‘The Company You Keep’

Remember Occupy Wall Street?  Remember how popular support for the protest soared and then dwindled as organizers proved to be disorganized and ineffectual?  In his new film, The Company You Keep , Robert Redford examines why so many movements like OWS fail.  “They don’t always succeed, they tend to evaporate,” Redford notes.  “I was curious about why. And what was the cost [for] those people that so believed?” In addition to looking back at generations of history,  The Company You Keep also showcases several generations of acting talent: From Julie Christie to Stanley Tucci to Shia LaBeouf. Redford’s most contemporary casting choice is America’s Got Talent wunderkind Jackie Evancho, who makes her acting debut in the film.  “Acting and singing are actually very similar,” says Evancho.  “Because they’re both telling a story.” Check out my full interview from the NY Premiere below: Follow Grace Randolph on  Twitter . Jill Scott Scores First #1 on Billboard 200

Bon Iver debuts at #2, followed by Adele at #3 and ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic at #9. By Gil Kaufman Jill Scott’s The Light of the Sun Photo: Blues Babe Records R&B singer Jill Scott will notch her first #1 album next week when her fourth effort, Light of the Sun, crashes the top of the Billboard 200 chart thanks to sales of 135,000 copies, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. That was more than enough to hold off the charge from another chart-topping newbie, sensitive Wisconsin folkie Bon Iver (a.k.a. Justin Vernon), whose self-titled second collection of pastoral Auto-Tuned hymns hits #2 after selling 104,000 copies. The pair leads a parade of new faces, which include country singer Justin Moore at #5 with Outlaws Like Me (65,000), Pitbull , whose Planet Pit lands at #7 (55,000), and perennial chart-crashing joke man “Weird Al” Yankovic , who yuks his way to #9 with Alpocalypse (44,000). The rest of the top 10: Adele , 21 (#3, 101,000); Jackie Evancho , Dream With Me (#4, 77,000); Bad Meets Evil , Hell: The Sequel (#6, 63,000); Lady Gaga , Born This Way (#8, 49,000); and Jason Aldean , My Kinda Party (#10, 40,000). Speaking of parties, all-night disco rockers LMFAO wiggle in just outside the top 10 with their second effort, Sorry for Party Rocking, which hits #12 (27,000), while soul singer Ledisi takes a 10-spot tumble in week two with Pieces of Me, which falls to #18 (20,000). Without a smash hit like “Fireflies,” fans seemed to flee Owl City ‘s latest, All Things Bright and Beautiful , which plummets 26 spots in week two to #32, as sales drop 73 percent to 13,000. Pop punk veterans Simple Plan rolled into the #52 slot with Get Your Heart On! (9,000). Over on the iTunes charts, it’s a different story, as Bon Iver rules the album tally, followed by Adele, Scott, the Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″ collabo Bad Meets Evil, Pitbull, Moore, Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More, LMFAO, Matt Nathanson’s Modern Love and a Frank Sinatra greatest hits collection. Katy Perry was the queen of the iTunes singles chart thanks to “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” which beat out Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger” collaboration with Christina Aguilera on “The Voice,” then LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything,” Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass,” Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” Lady Gaga’s “The Edge of Glory,” Hot Chelle Rae’s “Tonight Tonight,” Lil Wayne’s “How to Love” and Blake Shelton’s “Honey Bee.” Expect more shake-ups at the top next week when Beyonc

Eminem, Royce Da 5’9″ Debut Tops Billboard Chart

Bad Meets Evil’s Hell: The Sequel barely outsells Jackie Evancho. By Gil Kaufman Royce Da 5’9″ and Eminem Photo: MTV News Eminem just scored another #1 album. Almost a year to the day his comeback smash Recovery crashed the charts with more than 741,000 in sales, the Detroit rapper’s collaborative EP with pal Royce Da 5’9″ as Bad Meets Evil , Hell: The Sequel, hit the top of the charts as well, though it didn’t post anywhere near the gaudy numbers of Slim Shady’s solo effort. The album moved a modest 171,000 copies in its first week on the charts, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, just besting the latest album from 11-year-old “American’s Got Talent” soprano opera singer Jackie Evancho , Dream With Me , which sold 161,000. The second release from one-man emo band Owl City , All Things Bright and Beautiful , debuted at #6 on sales of 48,000, while classic crooner Barry Manilow made it to #7 with 15 Minutes (36,000), his first album of all-original material in more than a decade. R&B singer Ledisi was just behind at #8 with Pieces of Me (36,000). The rest of the top 10: Adele , 21 (#3, 115,000); Lady Gaga , Born This Way (#4, 68,000); Jason Aldean , My Kinda Party (#5, 51,000); Brad Paisley , This is Country Music (#9, 35,000) and the cast recording of the Tony-winning Broadway show (#10, 34,000). Among the other chart debuts were makeup-wearing rockers Black Veil Brides with Set the World On Fire (#17, 23,000) and the debut EP from YouTube sensation and Christina Grimmie , Find Me (#35, 13,000). After finally opening on Broadway, following months of maligned previews and technical glitches, the soundtrack to the musical, featuring music performed by the cast as well as score writers Bono and the Edge of U2, hit the charts at #86 on soft sales just shy of 7,000. On the iTunes charts, Em and Royce ruled the album tally, followed by Adele, Owl City, Journey’s Greatest Hits album — which led a parade of classics as part of a low-dough Father’s Day digital special also including the Nothing But the Best Frank Sinatra comp (#5) and Bob Marley’s Legend (#6) — as well as Grimmie (#7), Gaga, Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More and Evancho. On the iTunes singles chart, Katy Perry hit the top again with “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” besting LMFAO ‘s “Party Rock Anthem,” Pitbull ‘s “Give Me Everything,” Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and Gaga’s “The Edge of Glory.” Rounding out the singles tally were Nicki Minaj with “Super Bass” (#6), Bad Meets Evil’s “Lighters,” Lil Wayne ‘s “How to Love,” Bruno Mars ‘ “The Lazy Song” and Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem.” There could be a few new names in the top 10 next week, thanks to debuts from R&B singer Jill Scott, mellow folkie Bon Iver, LMFAO, Pitbull and comedian “Weird Al” Yankovic. .
