Will "Hunger Games" Or "Bridesmaids" Rule Movie Awards?

Sunday’s most-nominated films have the Wanted, ‘Jersey Shore’ star Deena and Big Time Rush divided. By Jocelyn Vena Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in “Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate While we all know where Justin Bieber stands on the issue of “Bridesmaids” versus “Hunger Games” (hint: He prefers laughing to crying), we felt it was important to do our due diligence and reach out to other celebrities to see which of the two most-nominated films might take home more prizes at Sunday’s 2012 MTV Movie Awards . Kendall Schmidt and Carlos Pena from Big Time Rush also went for “Bridesmaids” as the night’s big winner, with Pena telling MTV News he thinks he’s “in love” with Kristen Wiig — “a little bit.” Siva Kaneswaran from the Wanted was banking on “The Hunger Games,” and bandmate Jay McGuiness had a very good reason. “Me and Max [George] Googled Jennifer Lawrence. We were very happy with the results,” he laughed. Deena Cortese from “Jersey Shore” also seemed pretty sure that Jennifer Lawrence’s dystopian flick will beat Kristen Wiig’s female-driven comedy about the perils of weddings: “I think “Hunger Games” might take it.” The films will not only face off in the Movie of the Year category, but also in Best Female Performance, Best Cast and Breakthrough Performance. To find out which movie will take home more Golden Popcorn, check out the 2012 MTV Movie Awards this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT. ‘Hunger Games’ Star Slings Arrows At Movie Awards Rival ‘Twilight’

‘Harry Potter’ also earns Leven Rambin’s wrath: ‘That’s so seven years ago.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Leven Rambin Photo: MTV News “The Hunger Games” has some stiff competition at Sunday’s 2012 MTV Movie Awards , especially in two major categories: Movie of the Year and Best Cast . Surely the cast of the splashy big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel fully understands warfare, which is why when MTV News recently spoke to Leven Rambin — who plays the ill-fated Glimmer in “Hunger Games” — she had some feisty fighting words for those other casts. Well, for all the films except one notable exception. “I think it’s a close tie between ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘Bridesmaids,’ and I would not be offended if ‘Bridesmaids’ won, ’cause, frankly, they’re my favorite cast of any movie I’ve ever seen ever,” she dished. “I think it’s neck-and-neck.” Of course, she had less-than-kind things to say about some of those other nominated films. ” ‘Harry Potter’? That’s so seven years ago,” she said. “So I think ‘The Hunger Games’ is the hot new kids on the block.” And she wasn’t shy to brush off “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” another major movie franchise vying for the Golden Popcorn when the show goes live this Sunday (June 3). “What? What’s that? ‘Breaking’ who?” she sassed. In the Movie of the Year category, Rambin and the other Tributes face off against “Bridesmaids,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” “The Help” and “Breaking Dawn – Part 1”. Meanwhile, in the Best Cast competition, “The Hunger Games” will take on “Bridesmaids,” “Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” “21 Jump Street” and “The Help.” Want to know who will win? Well, the 2012 MTV Movie Awards will be hosted by Russell Brand and feature performances from Fun. , The Black Keys, Martin Solveig and Wiz Khalifa . Madonna At #1 Again With MDNA

Madge’s 12th studio album sells 359,000 copies, giving singer her fifth straight #1. By Gil Kaufman Madonna Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic Madonna will retain her claim to the pop throne next week when her 12th studio album, MDNA, debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. This will be the singer’s fifth straight #1 album, and its sales of 359,000 were more than enough to outpace the #2 debut from fellow veteran Lionel Richie . Richie marks a return to the upper reaches of the charts with his hook-up with country artists on Tuskegee, which sold 199,000 copies, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. With her latest chart-topper, Madonna, 53, joins Barbra Streisand as the only woman to top the Billboard albums chart at least eight times; Streisand holds the record with a total of nine #1 albums. Two seasoned rock bands also debut in the top 10, with Shinedown hitting #4 with Amaryllis (106,000) and the Used returning to the charts at #8 with Vulnerable (32,000). The rest of the top 10: Adele , 21 (#3, 121,000), “Hunger Games” soundtrack (#5, 64,000), One Direction , Up All Night (#6, 46,000), the deluxe version of Katy Perry ‘s Teenage Dream (#7, 33,000), Bruce Springsteen , Wrecking Ball (#9, 28,000) and NOW 41 (#10, 25,000). The week after they debuted at #3, the Shins drop 11 spots to #14 as business for Port of Morrow dipped by 71 percent to 22,000. Meanwhile, noisemeisters the Mars Volta land at #15 with their latest, Noctourniquet (21,000). All-American Rejects bop in at #18 with Kids in the Street (18,000), and last season’s “American Idol” winner, Scotty McCreery , got a big boost after appearing on the show last week, sending his debut, Clear as Day, up 46 spots to #21 as sales picked up by 172 percent to 16,000. Look for a new #1 next week as Nicki Minaj ‘s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded crashes the charts. Related Artists Madonna

Nari & Milani Lead For Miami Music Week Track Of The Week

While ‘Atom’ currently tops list, Porter Robinson and Martin Solveig weigh in on Bingo Players’ ‘awesome’ ‘Rattle.’ By Akshay Bhansali Photo: Opium Group After a weekend showdown that saw Knife Party fans edging “Internet Friends” just past initial leaders Nari & Milani , “Atom” fans have reclaimed the lead again in the Miami Music Week Track of the Week competition. Steve Angello must certainly be proud: Not only is a song from his Size Records label, slated for release later this week, in the lead, but Swedish House Mafia’s “Greyhound” currently has just under 15 percent of your votes and is holding firm at #3. Of course, the most popular song to come out of Miami is the topic of much discussion, for fans and artists alike, and MTV News was lucky enough to bump into a couple of your favorite EDM stars to have them weigh in. ” ‘Rattle,’ by Bingo Players , everyone is playing it,” Porter Robinson told MTV News in Miami. “I’m playing it as well. And this is by no means a criticism. These songs are getting played out so frequently because they have merit and because they are awesome.” “I heard the Bingo Players track ‘Rattle’ a lot!” Martin Solveig revealed to MTV News recently. “And it’s just an instrumental so it’s interesting, and it’s coming from artists that don’t have the exposure of the Swedes or David [Guetta].” Well, these two clearly have their favorite picked, but you the fans have until Thursday at midnight to cast your final vote for who wins Miami Music Week Track of the Week! Madonna’s MDNA: Behind The ‘Eclectic’ #1 Album

Producer Martin Solveig opens up to MTV News about working with the Queen of Pop on her latest chart-topping opus. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna’s MDNA Photo: Interscope Madonna released her latest chart-topping album, MDNA, last week, and whatever special magic she cast in the studio seemed to work. The dance-heavy album sits pretty at #1 this week, selling a whopping 359,000 units, proving that Madonna still is the Queen of Pop. The album is full of dirty and chugging production, with Madge lamenting about her broken heart on some songs and seeking vengeance against a former lover on others. The album gets production assists from William Orbit , Benny Benassi and Martin Solveig , among others, but it’s the contributions from those three that stand as the highlights. Both Solveig and Benassi had a hand in the album’s first two singles, “Girl Gone Wild” (Benassi) and “Give Me All Your Luvin” (Solveig), while Orbit brings some emotional gravitas to the record, recalling their work on Ray of Light. Solveig recently stopped by MTV News and opened up about creating the chart-topping album with Madonna. “We were working with no limits. I think the only thing that she said when we started was ‘I just want people to be able to dance to my music and connect easily with my music,’ and also probably to take some risks at some point,” he explained. “Other than this, it was open to any kind of experimentation.” What Solveig wanted to focus on when it came to experimenting with her was rhythm. “This is why I explored mainly the BPM thing,” he said, referring to the beats per minute of his tracks. “You have slow BPM, very fast BMP songs, twisty and more four to the floor, and I thought it was interesting to explore this, because she hasn’t done that a lot on the past albums. And actually, William did a little of the same. It’s very eclectic. Every song has a little story. It’s a collection of songs that are very different, but you are excited to listen from beginning to end.” With a hit record on her hands, Madonna will have a moment to breathe before she kicks off her world tour later this year. The trek will begin May 29 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Madge will land Stateside August 28 in Philadelphia. Did you pick up Madonna’s latest album this week? Share your reviews in the comments! Green Day’s Reign On Shaky Ground In Musical March Madness

Evanescence and Paramore battle it out in the first #1 vs. #2 matchup in MMM history; Elite Eight voting ends tonight at midnight ET! By James Montgomery Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong Photo: Getty Images There are still a few hours left before polls close in the Elite Eight of MTV’s Musical March Madness, and it looks like every second — and vote — is going to count. Because, as we predicted on Wednesday , we’ve got more than a few epic encounters on our hands, as the remaining eight bands slug it out for a spot in the Final Four. And, really, with matchups that include Paramore vs. Evanescence, Green Day vs. Adam Lambert and the MMM grudge match to end all MMM grudge matches (that would be Coheed and Cambria vs. Tokio Hotel ), well, we’d expect nothing less. Things have been wild, to say the very least. Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket! And so, with Elite Eight polls closing tonight at midnight ET, we figured we’d bring you up to date on all the back-and-forth battles. And they’re basically all back-and-forth battles at this point. Shoot, even the My Chemical Romance/Metallica tilt seems destined to come right down to the wire. So here’s where we stand with just a few precious hours left. East We thought the MCR/Metallica matchup had the potential to be a blowout, and for a while, it looked like those predictions would be correct: MMM heavyweights My Chem surged to a huge lead over road-weary Metallica, though, as the hours wore on, Hetfield and company dug deep, and have been staging a furious comeback ever since. As of this afternoon, they still trail MCR by a fairly sizable amount (something like 12,000 votes), but the gap is closing by the minute. Do they have enough left in the tank to overtake My Chem, or will Gerard and the boys make MMM history and advance to their third-straight Final Four? We’ll just have to wait and see. West There’s a huge upset brewing out West, as #11 Adam Lambert has got defending MMM champs Green Day on the ropes. Somewhat surprisingly, this matchup has seen more votes cast than any other in the Elite 8, as the Glambert Nation has shown up in full to support their man. Barring a tremendous rally, it looks like Green Day are going to have to relinquish the trophy, which, given the fact they never bothered to pick it up in the first place, should actually be quite easy. Sort of like Lambert’s dominance up to this point. East The biggest MMM rematch in years — 2010 champs Coheed and Cambria once again facing off against eternal MMM bridesmaids Tokio Hotel, in a battle wrought with historical tension — has, instead, turned into a massacre. Though fans of both bands have been lobbing accusations of cheating (as much a MMM tradition as the trophy itself, it would seem), we’ve been monitoring this one closely … and, Tokio fans, you’re seemingly home free. With hours left, Tokio are pasting Coheed (to the tune of some 440,000 votes) and seem destined to return to the Final Four. Then again, as we’ve learned in the past, you can’t count Coheed’s Children of the Fence out — but sufficed to say, they’ve got their work cut out for them if they want to help their favorite band advance. Just keep it clean, folks. Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket! South The first #1 vs. #2 matchup in Musical March Madness history has most definitely lived up to the advance billing, as top-seeded Evanescence and #2 Paramore have been slugging it out since polls opened. Early on, this one was as close as double digits though, as it stands now — with nearly 2 million votes cast — it’s Ev who hold the lead ( we see you, Amy Lee! ) Does the Para-clan have one more rally left in them, or will Evanescence run the table and become the first-ever #1 seed to make the Final Four? The hour is growing late, though we suspect this one isn’t over just yet. There are just hours remaining in the Musical March Madness Elite Eight! Can you lift your favorite band to the Final Four? Or, alternately, bring them back from the brink? Get voting, time is running out! MTV’s 2012 Musical March Madness tournament reaches the Elite Eight! Voting runs until midnight ET on Thursday, March 29, and winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act is still alive, it’ll be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM or by downloading one of our custom badges — but get ready, it only gets more difficult from here on out. Madonna/deadmau5 Feud: MDNA Producer Weighs In

‘She has this dry sense of humor, which sometimes makes her say or do things that are a little bit shocking,’ Martin Solveig tells MTV News of Madge. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna and deadmau5 Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Earlier this week, Madonna and EDM star deadmau5 were in a war of words after a comment the Queen of Pop made at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival . For those who haven’t been following along at home, when Madonna took the stage to introduce Avicii, she asked the room, “How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?” Molly is another term for the illegal drug MDMA (ecstasy). That reference angered ‘mau5, who took to his Facebook to call out Madonna for seemingly linking dance music and drug use, a persistent stereotype. Eventually, the two settled the argument when Madonna took to Twitter , explaining that she was actually referring to the song “Have You Seen Molly” by Cedric Gervais, not the drug. deadmau5 seemed fine with her clarification, and all was cool between the once-beefing twosome. When MTV News caught up with one of Madge’s MDNA producers, fellow EDM DJ Martin Solveig, he weighed in on the short-lived, yet headline-making, tiff. “She’s a lot more ironical than a lot of people think, and … she has this dry sense of humor, which sometimes makes her say or do things that are a little bit shocking, which is also the reason why everyone loves her,” he said of Madge. Solveig also showed support to ‘mau5 (real name Joel Zimmerman). “Joel probably read the whole thing a bit more first-degree and was a little bit angry, and there’s nothing wrong with that,” he continued. “And about him saying the things that he wants to say, I mean, I’m totally with him on that. No one here is promoting drug use, and maybe it was important to say this. I know Madonna enough to know that she is, like, completely at the opposite of supporting drug use, but it’s a little bit of a chitchat.” What did you make of the Madonna/’mau5 feud? ‘One For The Money’ ‘Not Just A Chick Flick,’ Stars Say

‘There’s explosions and there’s shooting! You’re gonna like it too,’ Katherine Heigl tells MTV News, selling her new movie to men. By Christina Garibaldi Katherine Heigl and Daniel Sunjata in “One For the Money” Photo: Lionsgate NEW YORK — Since parting ways with “Grey’s Anatomy,” Katherine Heigl has established herself as a queen of romantic comedies, starring in several “chick flicks” such as “27 Dresses,” “Life as We Know It” and “New Year’s Eve.” In her latest movie, “One for the Money,” based on the best-selling Janet Evanovich novel, Heigl takes on the role of Stephanie Plum, a tough Jersey girl who becomes a recovery agent sent to track down a murder suspect — who just so happens to be her ex-boyfriend. If it sounds like the perfect recipe for a ladies’ night out, not so fast. At the movie’s New York premiere, Heigl promised that “One for the Money” will keep women and men on the edge of their seats. “I wouldn’t qualify it as a romantic comedy. It’s got [romance] and it’s got comedy, but it’s mostly about this sort of murder-mystery undertone that keeps it moving and keeps the pace going,” Heigl told MTV News. “I always feel like I’m selling it to men, like, ‘There’s explosions and there’s shooting! You’re gonna like it too, I promise!’ ” Lending her comedic chops to the flick, “The View” co-host Sherri Shepherd agreed with Heigl’s assessment: “It’s a lot of action and it’s a lot of fun. It’s something that I think my husband, who is 6-6, 280 pounds, would love. So no, it’s not just a chick flick; it’s a fun film.” Now, if the ladies of the film haven’t convinced non-female moviegoers, they may want to take some advice from their male co-stars. “There’s action sequences,” Daniel Sunjata said. “There’s definitely a healthy enough dose of testosterone and really good storytelling that I think the guys will have a great time at this movie too.” Heigl’s love interest in the film, Jason O’Mara, added, “I think if the guys come and see it, there’s gonna be lots in it for them. This is not a frilly romantic comedy. With all due respect to Katie’s past work, this is not ’27 Dresses.’ There’s something kind of edgy, something kinda blue-collar about this that gives it a bit of a realism, and I think it’s cool. Whether you’re male or female, I think you’re gonna have a good time.” Check out everything we’ve got on “One for the Money.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Madonna Calls M.D.N.A ‘Action-Packed’

Queen of Pop tells MTV News most of her upcoming album is more ‘high-energy’ than award-winning ‘Masterpiece.’ By Jocelyn Vena Madonna Photo: MTV News Madonna has teased fans not only inadvertently with a leaked demo of her first single for “Gimme All Your Luvin,” but also with “Masterpiece” (which also appears on the soundtrack for her film, “W.E.”) . So far it seems that the two very different tracks show the two very different sides that the Queen of Pop is pursuing on her next studio release, M.D.N.A. While “Gimme” plays up Madge’s playful, upbeat persona, “Masterpiece,” as she explained to MTV News, is a different story. ” ‘Masterpiece’ is one of the few kind of more down-tempo songs, more reflective,” she told MTV News at the New York City premiere of “W.E.” “I think the majority of the record is more action-packed,” she teased. “More high-energy.” It seems, then, that what fans have heard of “Gimme” is more of what they will hear on the album. The album will reportedly get a March release date. It features production from Martin Solveig on its lead single, which gets some presumably sassy assists from two fierce female MCs, Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. Both ladies will reportedly take the stage with the pop icon to perform the track at the Super Bowl halftime show . Madonna also worked with longtime collaborator and Ray Of Light producer William Orbit , who produced the Golden Globe-winning “Masterpiece.” “We’ve worked on stuff for so many years that we kind of finish each other’s sentences. He knows my taste and what I like,” she explained at the premiere. “Magic happens when we get into a recording studio together.” At the Globes, Madonna recalled how “Masterpiece” came together. “[My manager Guy Oseary] harangued me for the entire time I was filming and editing my movie to write a song,” she said during her acceptance speech for Best Original Song. “And I said, ‘Please, Guy, I’m trying to focus on being a director and I want people to pay attention to the film and I don’t have time.’ So then I finished the film and I started making my record and somehow magically and miraculously the song emerged, ‘Masterpiece,’ so thank you, Guy Oseary, for being so irritating.” What are you looking forward to on Madonna’s next album?
