Kroger Shooting: Victims Identified, Accused Killer Held On $5M Bond

ALERT: Here is the mug shot of the alleged suspect Gregory Alan Bush from the @JeffersontownKY @kroger shooting incident from 10-24-18. He is facing 2 counts of murder and 10 counts of wanton endangerment. Other charges could be pending. He does have a criminal history. pic.twitter.com/Gc3vwrADuQ — Aaron Ellis (@aaronellis01) October 25, 2018 The white man accused of killing two African-Americans at a Kroger grocery store in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, was ordered to be held on $5 million bond at his arraignment on Thursday. According to WAVE News , a lawyer for  Gregory Bush , a public defender, asked for a bond reduction, but the judge denied that request, ruling Bush a danger to the community. “I believe you to be a danger,” the judge stressed. “You are to possess no firearms, to have no contact with any of the alleged victims’ families, and (have) no contact with the place of violation including any Kroger.” Bush, 51, was charged with two counts of murder and 10 counts of wanton endangerment for the shooting that took place on Wednesday around 3:30pm, killing Maurice Stallard, 69, and Vickie Lee Jones, 67, both from Louisville. Stallard was the father of the city’s Chief Equity Officer, Kellie Watson. Apparently, he was there shopping with his 12-year-old grandson for art supplies. This is Vickie Jones & Maurice Stallard Sr., they were both murdered last night because of their skin color. Demand justice for their lives, keep their families in your prayers, & say their names. pic.twitter.com/pPOxD0RZJr — Simar (@sahluwal) October 25, 2018 The Courier-Journal reported that the arrest citation stated that Bush “pulled a pistol from his waistband and shot [a man] in the rear of the head and again multiple times as he lay on the floor.” Bush then allegedly re-holstered his weapon, walked out of the store, drew his weapon again and allegedly shot and killed Jones in the parking lot, the newspaper noted. The Kroger Co. issued a statement saying that company officials were “shocked and saddened by the shooting.” “Thanks to the quick response of the local police department, the suspect was apprehended and our store is secure.” Authorities have yet to confirm a motive behind Bush’s alleged crimes, but WDRB.com News reported that he has a history of making racist comments in the past, domestic violence and mental illness. Older court documents claim that Bush called his ex-wife a “n***er b*tch” and was charged with domestic abuse. In a past Facebook post, Bush also wrote “[I’ve] worked most of my life and battled mental illness throughout my life. My paranoid-schizophrenia finally stopped me from working and not am on mental disability. I’m lucky I made it this far with all the trouble I’ve caused myself when I get off my medicine.” It’s unknown if Bush was off his medication during the time of the shooting. But what we do know is that a witness to the shooting claims that after taking out his gun to protect himself, Bush allegedly told him, “Don’t shoot me. I won’t shoot you. Whites don’t shoot whites,” the Chicago Tribune wrote . This is a developing story and we will provide updates as they become available.  RELATED NEWS: Drunken Man Yells Racist, Violent Slurs At Black Woman Studying In Front Of Grocery Store Police: White Supremacist Killed Black Woman Who Threatened To Disclose His HIV Status #SayHerName: Woman Shot And Killed By Boyfriend Outside Family Dollar Over $36 [ione_media_gallery src=”https://hellobeautiful.com” id=”3015988″ overlay=”true”]

So Nasty & So Rude: NeNe Leakes Wasn’t Invited To Kenya Moore’s Baby Shower

Charles Sykes/Bravo/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images Mystery solved… NeNe Leakes Wasn’t Invited To Kenya Moore’s Baby Shower If you’re wondering why NeNe Leakes was the only O.G. housewife not at Kenya Moore’s baby showe r, then wonder no more. As previously reported Kenya had a fairytale themed celebration that brought out housewives, “Married to Medicine” stars and of course her husband Marc Daly. Noticeably absent however was NeNe who seemingly played nice with Kenya on social media and blasted Bravo for not making her a full-time housewife this season. “So happy for her! Bravo should have made her a housewife this season!” wrote NeNe in the Instagram comments section. “She really really deserves it! Congrats girl! I know you bringing a life into the world and I’m trying to save a life.” […] “She should be a housewife! Bravo is crazy. They r soooo beautiful! So so happy for her and Marc.” Her comments might’ve been dripping in shade, however, because NeNe’s confirming that she wasn’t even invited to the party. NeNe told a fan on Twitter today that she didn’t get an invite, but she’s still willing to buy baby Daly a gift. RT @PorozaVuyo : @NeNeLeakes Hello Nene, my name is Vuyokazi, did you attend Kenya's baby shower and did you buy a gift, if yes, what was the gift? Thanks for letting me ask No i wasn’t invited! I didn’t get a gift but I’m oppose to giving 1. I luv babies & i luv shopping — NeNe Leakes (@NeNeLeakes) October 23, 2018 Ooop! A few weeks ago NeNe told  Bossip on WE tv that while she doesn’t necessarily miss Kenya, she was certain that she’d be invited to her baby shower. “I can’t say that I do [miss her],” said NeNe. “I probably will get an invite, we don’t have any beef. If I don’t that just saves me from buying a gift honey, I can do something else with my bread.” So much for that…   Are you surprised that Kenya snubbed NeNe from her baby shower???   Charles Sykes/Bravo/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images   See more of NeNe’s comments on the flip.

77-Year Old Black Woman Assaulted On A Plane By White Man, Forced To Move HER Seat [Video]

Ryanair is catching hella flak over a recent racial incident that took place on one their flights from from Barcelona to London on Friday. A white old man apparently had an issue with a 77-year old Black woman sitting in the same row as him, so in true racist Wypipo fashion, he raised hell. He said to the Jamaican woman, “Don’t talk to me in a foreign language, you stupid ugly cow! Ugly black bastard.” The passenger who filmed the disgusting incident, David Lawrence, told Newsweek he was unhappy with the airline’s response which he described as “absolutely incompetent and unprofessional. Ryanair doesn’t care.” Instead of kicking the man off the flight, the airline asked the woman to move to another seat, in order to keep the peace. After being called out for being careless and unprofessional, Ryanair has since turned the issue over to Essex police.  SMH.

Twirl Times! Porsha, Kandi & Cynthia Attend Kenya Moore’s Royal-Themed Baby Shower—But Where Was NeNe?

For the RHOA stans… Kenya Moore’s Baby Shower Photos It’s almost twirl time for Kenya Moore and the mommy-to-be celebrated with an EPIC royal-themed baby shower. Despite not being on the upcoming season of “Real Housewives of Atlanta”, Kenya’s shower was filled with RHOA stars including Cynthia Bailey, Kandi Burruss, Porsha Williams, and Shamea Morton. Gizelle Bryant of the “Real Housewives of Potomac” was also in attendance. Other guests included Dr. Heavenly and Toya Bush-Harris of “Married to Medicine”… as well as former housewife Claudia Jordan. Noticeably absent however was NeNe Leakes. NeNe’s absence quickly made fans wonder if there was some secret beef brewing between her and the mommy-to-be. A few weeks ago NeNe told the Bossip on WE tv crew that while she doesn’t necessarily miss Kenya, she was certain that she’d be invited to Kenya’s baby shower. “I can’t say that I do [miss her],” said NeNe. “I probably will get an invite, we don’t have any beef. If I don’t that just saves me from buying a gift honey, I can do something else with my bread.” There’s a perfectly good explanation for NeNe’s absence, however, and it’s much less shady than you think! Hit the flip.

Why Lupus Is an Urgent Matter To Black People

Source: skynesher / Getty “Lupus is not some distant disease,”  Gabrielle Davis , founder of  Lupus Sistas , tells Black Health Matters just days before the Black Health Matters Summit. In fact, lupus is an urgent matter. “It is rampant in the black community. It is having devastating effects on women, specifically black women.” It is with this same passion that Davis, a lupus sufferer and advocate, addresses the crowd at Riverside Church in Harlem, New York. “Nine years ago, my life changed,” she says. “I was young, slim, cute. I was a newlywed. It was my first Valentine’s Day as a married woman. She goes on to explain how she was having pain that day, but she passed it off as stress. So she booked a massage, which only exacerbated the problem. “By the time I got off the table, I could barely walk,” she says. “We couldn’t do Valentine’s Day; we had to go to the ER.” The doctors said Davis’ white blood cell count was out of whack and she was severely dehydrated, but they had no idea what was wrong with the newlywed. Though her primary care physician caught on that Davis was suffering from an autoimmune-related disease, she didn’t see a rheumatologist until three or four months later. That’s when she learned she had lupus. Lupus comes in three main forms: Systemic lupus erythematosus is the most common form of the disease, and it involves the entire body. Cutaneous lupus causes a rash and lesions on the skin. Drug-induced lupus, which occurs when a doctor prescribes a medicine that causes lupus symptoms, usually goes away when the medication is stopped. Davis was diagnosed with SLE. “It was a devastating diagnosis,” she reveals. “And one I didn’t take as seriously as I should.” She takes prednisone, which has given her a moon face. She also suffers from joint problems, especially if it’s really cold or damp and humid. She jokes about buying stock in Aspercreme. And she has experienced hair loss. The fatigue that marks the disease has most severely cramped her lifestyle. “It’s the symptom that bothers us the most,” she says. “It stops us dead in our tracks. There were times it was truly a stretch to get up off the couch.” But perhaps her biggest lupus challenge came about a year after her initial diagnosis. “In 2010, I was diagnosed with kidney disease,” she says. At first she was able to manage the additional health threat, but by 2016, her kidney function had dipped to 4 percent. Her doctors said it was time to think about dialysis. She wanted to handle the new diagnosis with exercise and diet. “I said, ‘Let me get my green smoothie on,’ but sometimes we have to take the medicine, and my medicine was dialysis,” she says. Davis pulls up her shirt to reveal her catheter. “I do nine hours of dialysis with my boyfriend, Baxter,” she says jokingly. Then, serious, again, she adds: “This is my lifeline now.” Davis’ mission isn’t only to share her own story, though her real-world examples of how lupus has affected her are an engaging way to grab an audience’s attention. “I’m just one of many people living with lupus today. I’m able to hold down a full-time job still. Some can’t,” she says. Her bigger goal is to spread lupus awareness. And so she shares these facts: Nine out of 10 lupus patients are women. 40 percent to 50 percent of sufferers will have organ involvement. 1.5 million people in the United States are living with this disease. But that’s a conservative estimate, she explains. “Lupus isn’t tracked well and doesn’t appear on your death certificate.” Black women  are two to three times more likely to be diagnosed than white women; men are diagnosed less often, but they tend to have more severe symptoms. The City Of Memphis Is Keeping Martin Luther King Jr’s Dream Alive While Still Blazing A New Trail

Image via Joe Raedle/Ebet Roberts/Redferns/Win Macnamee/Getty Memphis’s Future Is Built On Fulfilling Dr. King’s Dream From the outside looking in, with only a superficial lens, the city of Memphis, Tennessee revolves around three things: barbecue, blues music and the world-stopping murder of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr . But only when you are on the inside looking out do you realize that Memphis’s true identity revolves around the community of people who not only champion King’s dream of equality, but push foward boldly with entrepreneurship, cuisine and culture. It makes Memphis one of the most unique cities in the United States. Recently, Bossip was invited to visit Memphis to get an intimate look at the city through the eyes of the men and women who have built it up into the enterprising hotbed that it has become. Let’s be clear, the food in Memphis is bomb, fie, lit, good af and whatever other savory superlatives you can cook up. That said, it wasn’t just the flavor of the food that earned Memphis’s culinary culture our high praise. It’s the pride that so many Black restauranteurs feel in serving their community and adding to the city’s legacy. We got a chance to speak to some enterprising sistas like Cynthia Daniels, founder of Memphis Black Restaurant Week, Chef Fran Mosely of HM Dessert Lounge, Ayren Moore-Alston of G. Alston Restaurant and Valerie Pevey, owner of The Office at Uptown. Each and everyone of them told the story of building their businesses from scratch and they credit generous Memphian support as the number one reason for their initial success and continued growth. In turn, these businesses reciprocate in offering opportunities to their communities. Image via Getty For example, the very first Black Restaurant Week took place on March 6-12, 2016. It was launched with 8 restaurants and as a result created 38 jobs. One-third of those turned into full-time positions due to the additional revenue. That’s community building. That’s pride. In speaking to people around the city, we couldn’t help but notice another source of Memphian pride, philanthropy. Memphis is one of the most charitable cities in the U.S. and the arts and culture in the city are better because of it. The Hattiloo Theater and founder Ekundayo Bandele exemplify this benevolence best. The New York native says that Memphis’ affluent Black residents had been longing to put their money into African-American theater, but had no outlet to do so. “There just never was that opportunity for Black wealth to invest in the city. So going to them and asking for $50,000 or $100,000, they were more than happy to do it.” Since 2006, that Black affluent support along with donations from white allies has allowed Hattiloo to flourish for over a decade and remain debt free in their multi-million dollar facility, a rarity in non-profit sector of the arts. Image via AFP/Getty Images Today, thousands are gathered in Memphis to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy and there will without doubt be several replays of the famous “I’ve Been To The Mountaintop” speech he delivered the day before he died from a sniper’s bullet at the Lorraine Hotel. King’s speech was primarily a rallying cry in support of the sanitation worker’s strike, but he also spoke of “strengthening Black institutions”. The unprecedented success of Hattiloo and many other local Black-owned businesses are a realization of that ethos. We can only imagine the pride he would feel seeing the fruits of his labor. Cuisine and culture are not the only things bringing people together in Memphis, visionary infrastructure is as well. Crosstown Concourse is a sprawling mixed-use “urban village” that houses restaurants, retail spaces, health services, a charter high school, art gallery, podcast recording studio and almost 300 apartments. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen before and has helped bring over 800 new jobs to the area. Many of the property’s business models work in tangent and are geared toward providing opportunity in education and employment. With all due respect to the hope that Dr. King had for the future, we have to think even he would be pleasantly surprised by how the city of Memphis, Tennessee has banded together to turn a dream into a reality. No place is perfect, no place ever will be, but there is a huge difference between a place mired in the tragedies of the past injustices and Memphis, where the mountaintop of freedom is reached by cooperation, community and combating separatism. Memphis is in this thing together, just like Martin wanted all of us to be. Written by: Jason “Jah” Lee, Associate Editor
