Authorities report that 23-year-old Sharonda Benson killed Chanell and wounded her 8-year-old friend Ellen Garjo while arguing with Ellen’s mother. Benson, who shares a baby’s father with the woman, apparently fired shots into the Detroit area home where the children were playing after an argument. Fox 2 Detroit reports: A 7-year-old girl is killed and an 8-year-old girl is in critical condition after both were shot Sunday night. Two people of interest are in custody for the Steel Street shooting in which the Detroit house was “sprayed” with bullets, according to police. Chanell Berry died in the shooting, while Ellen Garjo was wounded, while playing with Christmas presents. “My baby died in my arms,” said Kiana Johnson, mother of Chanell, her youngest child. “My baby was down, I (went) to pick my baby up in my arms and my baby died in my arms. Police say the shooting happened after 23-year-old Sharonda Benson began arguing with Ellen’s mother. Apparently both have children with the same man. And after leaving, Benson threatened to return. “It was because of her,” Johnson said. “That my baby lost her life. She knew there were kids in here.” Chanell and Ellen were both shot multiple times. Ellen lies critical in the hospital on Monday. Police say Benson turned herself in.l Sources say her 22-year-old relative, found in a taxi on Lamphere near Joy, was also arrested. A GoFundMe has been started by Chanell’s family for funeral costs. So, so sad. Hopefully the family gets justice for this little girl.

And there is a reason why they say “please don’t feed the animals”: A circus elephant trampled to death a girl who was attempting to feed it, police in Vietnam said Monday. Police officer Pham Ngoc Tien of Lao Cai province said the elephant was part of a troupe from Hanoi on a 10-day tour of the province. The animal was tied to a chain in the fenced backyard of a cultural center when it was not performing. Tien said Monday that the 11-year-old girl and several other children had entered its enclosure. The girl was feeding the elephant when it lifted her up with its trunk, threw her to the ground and trampled her repeatedly. Police officer Phan Van Quang told AFP that Nguyen Thao Anh was offering the elephant sugarcane. “She was trampled to death on the spot”, he added. Nguyen Xuan Quang, deputy director of the Vietnam Circus Federation, reportedly said that children had been teasing the animal prior to Sunday’s incident.
