C ognizant of the lack of support that many Black-owned businesses receive, truck driver Edward Dillard decided to make a concerted effort to support African American-owned restaurants during his coast to coast shifts on the road. However, when the Delaware native would travel through the outskirts of major cities, he found it hard to locate Black-owned restaurants. Determined to come up with a solution to this dilemma and give African American-owned establishments exposure, he launched a platform called Eat Black Owned ; a national directory of Black-owned restaurants. There is power that lies in the Black dollar. Black buying power is worth $1.2 trillion and that number is expected to grow to $2 trillion by the year 2020. However, the life span of a dollar within the Black community only lasts for six hours. After learning about these statistics, Dillard’s mission to support local Black-owned businesses became bigger than himself and he began laying the foundation for Eat Black Owned to empower other individuals to spend their dollars at Black restaurants. “The dollar does not circulate in the Black community long at all. I think our community needs to do more to lift ourselves up,” he told NewsOne. “I hope individuals will use this site and find a restaurant to patronize that they never knew about. We spend our money with other communities and rarely ever with our own. If there were more resources for us to locate Black-owned businesses, then I believe more people would support them.” After five months of research, he compiled a list of over 2,000 restaurants and launched the website in June. Through the site, users can locate Black-owned eateries that are near their geographic location. The site allows restaurant owners and customers to add listings and Dillard created a section for individuals to leave reviews. He specifically wanted to highlight places that were located outside of major cities. Dillard also wanted to ensure that his site was inclusive of different types of businesses. He includes mom-and-pop eateries and restaurants owned by Black celebrities. “I prefer mom-and-pop restaurants because I believe they put more TLC into their food and customer service,” he said. For Dillard, the positive feedback has been rewarding. As far as what’s on the horizon for Eat Black Owned, Dillard hopes to turn it into an app. He also plans on transforming the platform into a hub for content related to the Black culinary experience and will feature recipes posted by users. Platforms like Dillard’s are needed. Research shows that Black-owned restaurants grew by 49 percent between the years 2007 to 2012. After eight long months on the inside, Mike Sorrentino was released from prison on September 12. And as anyone who’s been watching recent episodes of Jersey Shore knows — Mike’s absence has been keenly felt on the show. (How many more scenes in that Vegas hotel suite will be forced to endure?!) But if you’re among the many viewers who have lately found themselves missing the old guido group dynamic, fear not: The Sitch is back, and he’s ready to bring the heat with some spicy stories from his time in the clink. Sorrentino appeared on Snooki’s podcast this week, and in addition to weighing in on the latest drama involving his housemates, he opened up about life in prison and the joys of his newfound freedom. Mike began by confirming the obvious — the top item on his post-prison agenda was smushing with his wife, Lauren Pesce . After that, it was right back to making that green: “I feel fantastic,” Mike told Snooki. “I’ve lost 40 pounds in this process. I’m back reunited with my beautiful wife. “And working on the No. 1 TV show on MTV! I’m very grateful and just taking advantage of every moment, every conversation, every meal and just living my best life.” (Some possible shade directed at the ladies of Teen Mom there? We love it!) “When I first got home, all I wanted to do was spend time with my beautiful wife. I wanted to have a naked pizza party,” Sorrentino continued. “I wanted to watch movies. I wanted to watch ‘Avengers.’ I wanted to watch ‘Game of Thrones.’ I had to catch up on all that TV. I wanted to snuggle with my dog.” Unfortunately, his binge-watching was short-lived, as producers recognized the need to film Mike in his first days as a free man in order to maximize the drama: “And then the producers of MTV were like, ‘Listen, we need to get you in there ASAP,'” The Sitch went on. “So I pretty much took the ball and started to run with it immediately,” he explained. “I started working the day I came out. I saw you guys the next day, and then I think I moved in a couple days later.” “I was mentally ready, but at the same time, I was like, ‘Alright, this is my job. It’s time to man up. It’s time to rise to the occasion.’ Get that shmoney! I missed out on eight months. I wasn’t doing projects for eight months.” As for his experience on the inside, Mike says he benefitted from fame and was well-liked by his fellow inmates. (“I got all the extra food all the time!”) He confirmed the rumors that be befriended infamous Fyre Fest organizer Billy MacFarland and revealed that MacFarland was less than a model prisoner. “He supposedly smuggled in some sort of recording device, and he was caught with it,” Mike claimed. “They said he was trying to record high-profile inmates, and they threw him in the SHU. They sent him to a worse prison, I think, recently. That’s a bonehead move right there. And that’s not the only famous face who served time alongside The Sitch. Donald Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, is currently in prison for crimes related to payouts made to Stormy Daniels , and it seems his time at Otisville Correctional overlapped with Mike’s. And like the president, Sorrentino enjoyed demanding risky favors of Cohen: “I went up to him the first day, and he was a bit nervous, and I thought to myself, you know what? I’m gonna ask him to go sneak me some chicken out of the main line. It’s his first day,” Mike recalled. “I went up to Michael Cohen, and I said, ‘Listen, Michael Cohen.’ I’m there for like three-four months, I’m like, ‘Listen, bro, I’m gonna need you to do something for me.’ He said, ‘What is it, Mike? Anything!’ I said, ‘I’m gonna need you to go in main line. It’s your first day here. No one knows. I’m gonna need you to smuggle chicken from the main line and give it to me. I’m gonna hide it in my locker so that I can have an extra serving after my workout.'” Sadly, Mike says Cohen “chickened out” and didn’t go through with the meat heist. If only he’d shown that kind of backbone the last time a reality TV asked him to engage in some sketchy behavior! All-in-all Mike says his time behind bars was deeply unpleasant but not nearly as bad as it could have been due to his celebrity status: “I was blessed to shoot a lot of TV before I went into prison, so while I was in prison, I was on TV every Thursday with a smile on my face,” he said. “Like, ‘Oh, look, there’s my wedding!’ But I missed out on a lot of money from being in prison for eight months.” As for the work he was expected to perform, well … fame goes a long way with the masses, even behind bars. “I’ll be honest,” Mike said, “there was a guy in prison that did my job for me.” Hey, we’re just glad he’s back to his real job — stuffing his face and spouting inspirational cliches on television! In the aftermath of Sofia Richie's Keeping Up With The Kardashians debut , Kourtney Kardashian is dealing with something much more serious. Someone has been robbing her blind. We're talking about someone physically in her house, stealing cash and an iPad. In this preview clip, you can see her concerns as she wonders which person has betrayed her trust. This Keeping Up With The Kardashians sneak peek starts off almost unimaginably boring. Khloe is talking about wanting to retire her cookie jars, lamenting that “everyone has them now.” (Refusing to do something because it's popular is not morally superior to doing something because it is not . Both are dumb) That's when Megan, Kourtney's dutiful assistant, saves the day and the scene when she reports some bad news. Some of Kourtney's money — specifically, her cash — is missing. “Kourt?” Megan begins tentatively. She reveals: “So, we discovered that there was cash missing from your wallet.” While that's better than money being siphoned from one of Kourtney's massive bank accounts, that's still very alarming. “So,” Megan continues. “I don’t know if you spent it out the other night?” That suggested answer would be so much simpler. Money spent is much less scary than money stolen. “Umm, I specifically handed $20 to the valet,” Kourtney recalls. She continues: “And I had hundreds, and I threw them back into my bag,” Megan then delivers the very bad news. “There’s no hundreds there right now,” she grimly announces. “Is there any chance you could’ve lost the money?” Khloe asks, hoping for the simpler explanation. She suggests to her eldest sister: “Like, do you think it fell, or…” “It was definitely there,” Kourtney confirms. There's a brief transition, and Kourtney says: “You know when you just know? Like, I know for a fact.” “That’s crazy!” Khloe exclaims. “I don’t know.” Kourtney then speaks on this very serious matter to the konfessional kamera. “The fact that money is missing from my wallet definitely doesn’t feel like a coincidence,” she admits. Because she suspects that this thief has also made off with more than just currency. Kourt recalls: “We had an iPad missing in the house too,” We then see a flashback to her looking for her iPad and being unable to find it. “You know, I have people in and out of my house all day,” Kourtney points out. Some are family, some are friends, some are employees, and others are camera crew and producers for K eeping Up With The Kardashian s. Kourt says that these are all “People that I trust.” “Something just isn’t right,” she expresses. A thief nabbing physical cash may not be able to rob her of as much as someone getting into her accounts would. But the actual, physical presence of a thief in Kourtney's own home would make anyone understandably nervous. So who is it? Well, this sneak peek does not reveal the culprit's identity. Honestly? Even with what most people would consider a very nice salary, it's possible that a PA or other employee was desperate enough to steal. But in a normal household, a young child would usually be the most likely suspect. Not because Kourtney's wonderful children are prone to crime, but because young kids recognize the value of money, but generally lack impulse-control. And an iPad going missing is even easier to explain if a child wants to stream shows after bedtime. But we're obviously not accusing her kids. But given that this is Keeping Up With The Kardashians and they've chosen to air the footage, the answer may be something no one expects.

In a talk with Shadow and Act for his new movie with Eddie Murphy , “Dolemite Is My Name”, Snipes was asked about the “New Jack City” project. His response? “I’m not associated with it, you know. I’m have nothing to do with it at all,” he said. When pressed about his specific feelings for the flick, Snipes explained: “I think some things should be left alone…if it worked at the time under the circumstances. And the story was built around things that are current. I don’t particularly like the idea of recreating the drug culture. For what? […] I don’t know. They actually talked to me about doing it and I told them no. If I had a dime for every time I’ve said no. It’s a done deal, it’s a wrap.” The original “New Jack City” premiered in 1991 and it served as Mario Van Peebles ‘ directorial debut. It told the story of New York City drug lord Nino Brown (Snipes) and the detective, Scotty Appleton ( Ice-T ) who goes undercover to plot his downfall. Along with Snipes and Ice-T starring in the movie, Chris Rock, Michael Michele , and Allen Payne also had significant roles. Deadline made the announcement that the flick would be receiving a reboot, although the writer for the movie, Malcolm M. Mays deemed it a “sequel” on Instagram. Along with being a writer, Mays has also had a reoccurring role on the FX drama “Snowfall,” which also explores the inner workings of the drug world only this time, in L.A. where Mays is from. “New Jack City” has had major cultural impact, especially serving as the launching pad for the acting careers of Rock, Payne and Ice-T. Rock was especially memorable to audiences for his dramatic turn as “Pookie” Benny Robinson, a crack addict who eventually becomes a police informant and infiltrates the Cash Money Brothers gang. The flick was made for an estimated $8 million, according to Deadline, and it grossed around $48 million at the domestic box office. Although Mays is set to pen the script for the sequel, there is no director attached yet. Meanwhile, Mays is gearing up to direct and produce the feature film “Flint,” starring John Ortiz and T.I. The movie will follow a converted ex-con who’s found peace in the Tao principles. He finds himself caught up in a murder mystery set upon by his ex-lover and young mentee. His journey plays out in the backdrop of the Flint, MI water crisis and soon connections are made between the protagonist’s mystery and the water crisis afflicting the community where he grew up. Keisha Lance Bottoms , the mayor of Atlanta, just announced that the city reached its goal of raising a whopping $50 million to provide housing for the homeless. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). According to reports from Blavity , Atlanta partnered with the United Way of Greater Atlanta to raise the funds. About half of the money came from donations from private organizations, which includes Ameris Bank, who donated the last $114,000 that allowed the city to reach its goal. The other half is from the Homeless Opportunity Bond sale that began under former Mayor Kasim Reed. At the moment, there are over 3,000 homeless people in the city of Atlanta and the money raised will provide 550 homes for the city’s homeless population. “It is a misperception that many people have — that homelessness is represented entirely by the people they see on the streets,” said Jack Hardin, co-chair of the Atlanta Regional Commission on Homelessness. “A far larger proportion of people experiencing homelessness have incomes and function at very high levels, but live on the margins of the economics of our society and any hardship can derail.” This very funding to help curb homelessness in Atlanta was a major priority for former Mayor Kasim Reed’s last year in office. The initiative was initially announced about two years ago, when the city’s largest homeless shelter, Peachtree-Pine, revealed that it was closing its doors.
