Source: ERIC BARADAT / Getty The 28-year-old who was fatally stabbed outside a Popeyes restaurant has been identified and folks are sending their condolences. According to WJLA , Kevin Tyrell Davis of Oxon Hill, Maryland was the victim of the stabbing, which occurred after an altercation over the restaurant’s popular chicken sandwich . He has been identified as 28-year-old Kevin Tyrell Davis of Oxon Hill. pic.twitter.com/eQ3aGaZYzL — ABC 7 News – WJLA (@ABC7News) November 5, 2019   According to officials, an argument between two men began inside the restaurant located at 6247 Livingston Road, reportedly while the victim was waiting in line for the sandwich. The argument then transitioned outside on the street where the victim was stabbed. Davis was pronounced dead about an hour later at a local hospital. “Our homicide detectives are hard at work on this one, but we have been able to determine preliminarily that this is related to the release of the sandwich here at this restaurant,” explained Jennifer Donelan , the Prince George’s County Police Department’s media relations director. Investigators believe the argument came about because Davis cut the line. “It’s something we have to question in terms of how we’re interacting with one another as a society, is how does a confrontation over cutting line lead to a death,” Chief Hank Stawinski said at a press conference on Tuesday. “What bothers me about this…is that there are families and children in this restaurant as this is unfolding and they’ve been exposed to this now as well. This is pointless. This is disrespectful.” The suspect for the crime is still at large, and cops are asking witnesses to come forward to assist with identifying him. They released store photos shortly before 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, tributes have already started pouring in for Davis, who was known as Oside KD, according to the DailyMail.com. “I failed you. I’m sorry #longlive KD,” one person shared on Instagram, who claimed to be his cousin. “LongLiveKD Another Bro From the Lawd. Senseless,” another friend added. On Tuesday, friends of Davis stopped by the Oxon Hill Popeyes location to lay out candles that spelled his name and to put up flowers as a makeshift memorial. Although Popeyes hasn’t made a statement on social media regarding the incident, a representative for the restaurant chain told DailyMail.com, “What happened in Maryland last night is a tragedy and we are saddened to hear about this senseless act of violence. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends. We, along with the franchisee, are fully cooperating with local authorities and actively working to gather more information.” SEE ALSO: Tom Steyer Urged To Drop Out After Aide Stole Kamala Harris’ Voter Data White Woman Calls Black Cop The N-Word, Dares Him To Shoot Her And He Obliges

Qveen Herby Drops Ear-Pleasing, Kaleidoscopic ‘EP 7’ [Stream]

See original here:

Source: Qveen Herby / Qveen Herby Reinvention is often difficult for musical acts, especially those who achieved recognition at a level that may have suffocated their true artistic aims. For Qveen Herby , shaking loose the ghosts of music’s past has come relatively easy and she lands full circle with the release of her latest project, EP 7 . Some might remember Qveen Herby as one-half of the viral YouTube duo Karmin , who blew up after their cover of Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now,” which led to a major record deal. However, the crushing weight of corporate meddling and a burning desire to be true to herself moved Qveen to embrace Hip-Hop music in a more organic fashion that still manages to capture the playful bounce of her past group. Now in the front all alone, Qveen has dropped her latest set, EP 7 , a matter of fact title that illustrates the number of short projects she’s released over the past two years with her ex-Karmin partner and boyfriend Jedii Nick on the boards willfully playing the back while Qveen takes centerstage. EP 7 is a kaleidoscopic audio journey that has the high-gloss sheen and sound of big pop tunes skilfully meshed with the hard, head nod-inducing bop of trap-influenced Hip-Hop. As a rapper, Qveen’s verbal dexterity and lyrical stylings are at times comically boastful yet entirely believable. Yes, the pop stylings are audibly present but this time, the music doesn’t feel packaged to only be played in some artisanal coffee joint for college kids who wear thick-soled shoes for an ironic fashion effect.   EP 7 sounds like an album from a woman who knows exactly who she’s speaking to and for, all the while paying reverence to those who came before her with a chest-out bravado that her male counterparts in Hip-Hop wield fearlessly. With its lead single “Cheap Talk,” it would be fair to say that few would know what to expect of Qveen and that’s true across the five-song, 11-minute journey on EP 7 . To go along with the EP’s release, a video for the project’s lead track “Vitamins” was also unveiled to the public. When asked what Qveen Herby’s aims are with just dropping EPs over a full-length, she answered as confidently. “I love dropping EPs cuz it’s basically half an album every few months,” Qveen told us. “My team keeps getting tighter, I’m honing my craft, and my artistic vision for Qveen Herby is becoming more refined. Even my visuals have evolved to show more of my quirky persona and lean into my uniqueness. You can hear and see me becoming my true self through my EPs.” She added in her comments that she hopes to tour in the coming year and reconnect with her legion of fans across the globe, especially those who have stayed along for the ride to the switch from Karmin to Qveen Herby. In a tweet from last month, Qveen mentioned fellow fierce firebrand Rico Nasty after seeing the “Big T*tties” star in one of her dreams. When asked if their pair will collab soon, it appears that the idea is fresh on Qveen’s mind. “I have yet to connect with Rico Nasty but she’s so brilliant, saw her perform on tour with my friend/goddess Maliibu Miitch this past spring,” she shared. Kailyn Lowry Confirms: Farrah Abraham is Just The WORST!

This Just In: Farrah Abraham is a really awful person who thinks only of herself at all times. Okay, fine. Perhaps that isn’t exactly a piece of breaking news. But still: it’s worth repeating now because someone who has interacted with the former Teen Mom star has once again confirmede verything we’ve read and heard about Abraham. Appearing as a recent guest on the Domenick Nati Show, Kailyn was asked which Teen Mom cast member — present or past — rubs her the wrong way. Who does Lowry just hate the most, basically? “My least favorite cast member? I would say is Farrah,” she responded. This is not exactly stunning, of course. Last summer, Lowry scoffed at the notion of Farrah headlining an anti-bullying campaign, something Abraham had actually been tapped to do when she agreed to an exhibition boxing match. “I think there are much better influencers,” Kailyn said back then in a rather epic understatement. She later said she wanted to flat-out fight Abraham , although no match ever materialized between the pair. Asked what it is about Abraham that prompted Lowry to label her as the absolute worst, Kailyn said in this new interview: “Anytime I’ve been around Farrah she just doesn’t treat people like human beings. She treats them like they’re below her,” Lowry said, adding: “And that’s not really something… I don’t want to surround myself with people like that.” Hard to argue with that logic, isn’t it? Lowry’s pointed jabs at Farrah comes amid the news that another Teen Mom alum, Jenelle Evans, is divorcing her husband, David Eason. This is a hot topic that both Abraham and Lowry have weighed in on recently. “If she’s truly in the right mindset and is on a journey to find health and happiness, she could teach people a lot,” Lowry said on social media of Evans, expounding on her occasional rival as follows: “One could only hope that this is all true. “Despite our differences, her and her kids safety has always been a concern of mine, and now I’m not as worried hearing the latest news.” Sounds pretty fair and balanced of Kailyn, doesn’t it? Abraham, on the other hand, isn’t feeling nearly as generous when it comes to Evans and Eason. She seems to question Jenelle’s motives for the split, taking the cynical approach that Jenelle is only making this decision to further her career. “I just feel like it’s a way to just go back on TV, and I think more like myself and others, who just want better crews, better circumstances for her kids, beyond just going back to television,” Farrah told late last week. Concluded Farrah in her dissing of Jenelle: “I don’t know. Will things change when she gets a divorce just to go back on TV? “I’m just worried about her real intentions. Is it for her safety, her health, everyone’s well-being, or is it just get back on TV?” Like Kailyn just spent some time detailing, right? FARRAH IS THE WORST. Christine Brown’s Aunt Begs Star to Leave Sister Wives: It’s an Abusive Cult!

As previously documented, Christine Brown has lost a lot of weight. But someone very close to the long-time Sister Wives star is now hoping Christine loses something else in the near future: Her wedding ring. And the commitment that comes along with it. The veteran TLC personality, who rarely shares photo with spiritual husband Kody, is the subject of a new interview between Radar Online and Kristyn Decker. The latter is both Christine’s aunt and also the author of Fifty Years in Polygamy: Big Secrets and Little White Lies . She’s someone who grew up in polygamy, only to finally escape 33 years after she married her first husband. In other words: This is not some random critic of Christine, Kody and their unusual lifestyle… … this is someone who can speak from personal experience. Now that she’s happily in a monogamous marriage, Decker is calling on her estranged niece to do the same. “I was still in polygamy when Christine joined,” Decker tells Radar of watching her relative become a Sister Wife. “She looked happy. I thought, ‘She’s crazy about Kody, so go for it!’ Even as a believer, I wanted to privately to go tell them to run. I knew how crazy and insane it was. “You don’t know what you’re getting into. I wish I would’ve warned people.” Many observers have offered similar critiques for Christine and the three other women who shares Kody as a husband. But almost none of them have known the life of polygamy in the way Decker has, which is why her words are garnering national attentoon. “It’s a miserable-happy life,” she explains in this article. Meaning what, exactly? “The Browns are miserable-happy,” she says, elaborating as follows: They’re miserable on the inside. I don’t think any of them know what genuine happiness and freedom is. I thought I was happy. I thought life was great and I was serving God. “I was happy serving God, but miserable doing it. The more you sacrifice, the better your blessings will be in heaven.” Decker actually has appeared on Sister Wives. Her name or face may be familiar to long-time viewers. But she tells Radar that she and Christine never really talk, mostly due to Decker’s critical nature of her niece’s arrangement. Why does she think Brown can’t see clearly? Why isn’t Christine getting the heck out of there? Because she makes most of her income off the program and would be in financial trouble if she left. It’s a tragic and vicious and emotionally-damaging cycle. Kristyn went on to tell Radar how the Brown family belongs to is called the  AUB, which stands for Apostolic United Brethren. She said that while physical abuse is common, it is “not as common as emotional and mental abuse.” “Polygamy is a system of abuse overall,” she says. “Mental, emotional, and spiritual. The groups believe their leaders are the right ones and the others are wrong. Overall, polygamy is a system that’s harmful to men, women, children and society. “You will live in polygamy and the women will be submissive. The women must let the men have other wives or they’ll go to hell.” Sounds about right, doesn’t it? Helps explain why Meri Brown always sounds so sad, doesn’t it ? Kody married first wife Meri in 1990. Second wife Janelle joined the family in 1993. Christine married Kody in 1994. Then, Robyn joined the family in 2010. These two legally married in 2014 — meaning Kody had to divorce Meri — so he could adopt Robyn’s children from a previous marriage. In the family’s tell-all memoir, Becoming Sister Wives: The Story of an Unconventional Marriage , Christine opened up about the ups and downs in their marriage. She admitted that Kody’s marriage to Robyn really took its toll on her. “When Kody started courting and then married Robyn it really rocked me. I gave birth to Truely and was suffering from extreme postpartum depression,” wrote Christine, adding: “I’d never thought I’d feel such a sense of loss and such crippling jealousy. I thought I was better and stronger than that, I really did.” Don’t blame yourself, Christine. Just get the heck out of there — NOW. Roger Mathews Claps Back at JWoww: I Hate You Too, Bish!

Throughout Jersey Shore ‘s original run, Jenni Farley did her best to steer clear of the drama. Sure, she might step in and casually cold-cock someone when the situation calls for it, but for the most part, JWoww preferred to quietly collect her MTV checks and leave the overwrought displays of emotion to her co-stars. But as we all know, sometimes drama finds you, and Jenni’s life has been loaded with conflict in recent months. The latest dust-up involves Farley’s boyfriend, Zach Carpinello, and his decision to grope Angelina Pivarnick , while a drunken Jenni slept mere inches away. Farley dumped Carpinello when she first saw the footage (captured by Jersey Shore cameras), but now they’re back together, and it’s a whole mess. But before that debacle, Jenni was dealing with even more intense drama as a result of her divorce from Roger Mathews . What initially appeared to be an amicable split has devolved into a nightmare of a protracted divorce, complete with revelations that Roger was abusive to Jenni during the final months of their marriage. Unable to keep the drama off camera any longer, Jenni opened up about these struggles during a recent episode of Shore . “We were talking about regrets earlier, and I’ve been thinking about the biggest one,” she said to Snooki, who promptyl blurted out, “Roger. He’s the f–king worst. But you always knew it wasn’t right.” “Yup,” JWoww replied. Jenni put a positive spin on the situation, noting that if it weren’t for her time with Roger, she wouldn’t have her two kids. “They’re my bliss,” she said, “as I’m suffering.” “I’m going through it with the divorce,” she later added in a later confessional segment. “It’s been like almost a year since I filed. When you get a divorce, you’re supposed to be celebrating and like start a new chapter, but it’s really heartbreaking,” Jenni said. “And it’s stressful, the up-and-down battle of figuring out custody issues. I just don’t know when it gets better. It’s more than exhausting; it can like mentally break someone. I just want peace.” Understandably upset at being called “the worst” on national TV, Roger responded in a statement issued to Us Weekly : “You don’t spend almost a decade of your life with only one person then just never care about them again,” he said. “You can act like you do but you’re probably lying,” Mathews added. “Hatred spawns from love.” To be fair, Jenni never actually said that she hated Roger, but it’s not hard to see how he might have surmised such animosity on the basis of her comments. But while we can see why Roger might be offended, he really doesn’t have any right to be. The best thing he could do at this point is take a tip from old-school JWoww and just take a seat on the sidelines while the drama unfolds. Hampton University Professor Leads Initiative To Bring Health Screenings To Black Barbershops

View post:

T here is power that lies in the cultural influence of barbershops; especially within the Black community. These establishments have become far more than places where folks come to get their haircut; they’ve evolved into safe spaces where everything from political and social issues to health are discussed. A group of students from Hampton University is tapping into the impact of Black barbershops by utilizing them as an avenue to spread awareness about cancer prevention within the African American community, Southside Daily reported. Nursing professor pilots black men’s health screening program in a Hampton barbershop https://t.co/JASIj7V18s — Daily Press (@Daily_Press) October 18, 2019 The HBCU students teamed up with Hampton University nursing professor Jonathan Romero to launch an initiative called the “Barbershop Outreach Project” which was designed to address the disproportionate survival rates amongst men after they are diagnosed with cancer. Romero and the students—who are all pursuing nursing and pre-med degrees—teamed up with the Hampton-based barbershop BK’s Barbershop to provide health screenings for Black men. The project was created to cultivate a stronger relationship between Black men and the health system and to insert the importance of health screenings into barbershop conversations. “We set up right at the side of the building and we just asked ‘would you be interested in talking to us about your health?’” Romero told the news outlet. “Machismo or masculinity stubbornness will kill you in our community and has killed people in our community. People don’t seek out care so others won’t think they’re weak.” He hopes that Hampton University will be the leading force of change when it comes to Black health in the local community. As far as what’s on the horizon for the Barbershop Outreach Project, the organizers are planning to host more health-focused events at other barbershops. Black barbershops have become vessels for social change on many fronts. Through his program Barbershop Books , entrepreneur Alvin Irby is bringing literature to barbershops across the country to inspire young African American boys to read. Here’s What You Were Probably Listening To 10 Years Ago Today

Source: Astrid Stawiarz / Getty Time flies when you’re turning up. 2009-2019. End of an era. — Sidra Aziz (@NamkeenJalebi) June 16, 2019 The era when Facebook was new and poppin’, flip phones and baggy clothes were out and sidekicks and skinny jeans are in — but one thing that doesn’t change with the times is our love for music. Ten years ago, Rihanna hadn’t solidified her place in music, Beyoncé and Jay Z weren’t even parents yet and Kanye West was Kardashian-free. 2009 was a such a transitional year, too. It was the end of a decade, we lost Michael Jackson, and the death of autotune was on the rise. Music still had a little meaning and a little fun, and wasn’t so drug and club influenced just yet. Life was much simpler back then. @Only1Vlad: What a crazy roller coaster 2009 – 2019 has been thus far. An entire decade of ups and downs (like all of you). The most important takeaway I’ve really learned and took away from the past 10 years is – people aren’t always going to be in your life. So, hold on to memories. Just in time for the nostalgic November weather, hit the flip to check out our list of hit songs that were probably on your  playlist in 2009.

Remember Her? Ananda Lewis Explains Why She Left Behind TV Success To Be A “Loner”

If given the opportunity,  Ananda Lewis  says she wouldn’t return to being a steady TV personality after dominating that space for years in the mid to late ’90s and early ’00s. The way things are done has changed, and she likes living outside of the public gaze. “I don’t know if I would want to do it now,” she told the people of  The DL Hughley Show   this week. “I probably could but I don’t think I would want to.” Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). “I like my privacy now,” she added. “I like feeling normal again. I didn’t feel normal at all. I didn’t seek out that career so it surprised me that that happened and it was scary to me for a while. I was frightened for a long time.” Lewis was planning to teach, and was applying to do Teach for America when the opportunity to audition for BET’s Teen Summit came about. She was hired and never looked back, doing her best to embrace the opportunities that came with being a beloved face on TV. However, a number of uncomfortable encounters with people in public left her wanting to retreat. That, in particular, was the frightening thing for her. SEE ALSO:  15 Things That Happened 20 Years Ago And Changed Life As We Knew It “What it felt like to me was, people, because they would see you, especially at MTV, but it started happening at Teen Summit, they would see you and you’re common in their lives, every day, every weekend, all day long. You meant something to them. I think that’s powerful and wonderful — right up until you’re in person and you don’t really know them, but they  really  know you,” she said. “Then they grab you and they come at you and it’s invasive. I like people, but I’m really private in terms of, I also need a lot of loner time. I’m a loner in my nature. It made a huge conflict in my heart.” Lewis, now 46, found the courage to leave it all behind, including doing her  The Ananda Lewis Talk Show,  after a few different life events happened. Those events included her grandmother requiring assistance and 9/11 happening. “I had a, kind of a convergence of big life events happening that also influenced my decision,” she said. “It wasn’t only me going, I can’t do this anymore, and that was in the middle of the talk show that I knew it. I knew it before 9/11 happened because we had been taping, but when 9/11 happened I was like, ‘This is a sign. I’m not supposed to be here.’ There are major things going on that are like, ‘get out!’” Ananda is still taking on hosting duties here and there. She is moderating  the reunion for Season 3 of the TLC series,  Unexpected , which airs Sunday .  She also has hosted the latest season of the fun reality series  While You Were Out.  So Ananda  is  returning to TV here and there, but she’s clearly doing it on her own terms. Yeezus Wept: Kanye West’s “Sunday Service” Trademark Gets Shot Down

Source: Oishi / SplashNews / Splash News Kanye West’s “Sunday Service” Trademark Was Denied Kanye West and his new album are still MIA, even a year after its initial release date and  a month since the release date that was announced most recently. While avoiding questions about his album, though, Kanye has still been making his rounds with his gospel unit and performing his weekly “Sunday Service” worship series around the globe–He’s hit Atlanta , Wyoming, Detroit , New York, and most recently, Jamaica. Many fans are still confused about what his Sunday Service actually is, comparing it to some weird cult. Plus, the fact that Ye just purchased an entire city in Wyoming doesn’t help his case. Everything surrounding Kanye has been questionable since he sported the red MAGA hat , then wore it again in the presence of the weirdo in office, referring to him as a father figure all while his biological father is 100% alive and well. Even so, it seems like his Trump supporter antics Kanye have’t helped him very much in the legal department. While his wife Kim Kardashian is getting prisoners freed left and right, the US Trademark Office is handing Kanye a very fat “L”. TMZ Reports  that Kanye West can’t own the term for his merchandise and other purposes because someone else already owns it. Ye applied for exclusive ownership of the mark, “Sunday Service,” to slap it on clothing, dresses, footwear, headwear, jackets, loungewear, scarves, shirts, socks and tops. But, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office shut him down because, basically … someone’s already working that corner!!! Kanye started selling “Sunday Service” branded merchandise in April, during his Coachella weekend two Sunday Service debut performance, but applied for the trademark later on in July. Makes you wonder if the current owner got smart and applied for that trademark right after Coachella to seize the moment. Yeezy can still fight to appeal the decision, but he probably won’t come out victorious. Whoever dropped the ball on this is probably enduring the coldest Kanye rant of all time as we speak. If anything can bring the “Old Kanye” out, we’re almost certain messing up his money is one of them. View this post on Instagram Sunday Service at Emancipation Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
