As you may have heard, Megyn Kelly did not have a great week last week. Her peppy, mostly apolitical morning show, Megyn Kelly Today , premiered to less than rave reviews and featured more than a few awkward moments. Thus far, the show has served to strengthen the argument that NBC made a costly mistake in courting the former Fox News anchor. Reports that execs are desperate to fire Kelly have been circulating for months, but new revelations about just how much the network is paying the 46-year-old lead us to believe they’ll likely ride it out in hopes of seeing some return on their investment. According to a new report from Radar Online, NBC has agreed to pay Kelly an astonishing $69 million over the next three years. Yes, that awkward morning show that’s become Twitter’s favorite punchline is earning Kelly $23 million a year. For reference, NBC pays Jimmy Fallon just over $15 million annually. Matt Lauer is paid more than Megyn, with a salary of $25 million, but he’s been with the network for 23 years! “How on earth can they justify paying her $69m for three years?” said one irate insider in an interview with Radar. “The network that created Barbara Walters, Tom Brokaw and Matt Lauer will now forever be remembered for the $69m hire of Megyn Kelly,” opined another. What’s truly baffling about the staggering sum Kelly is being paid is that NBC had to know her contract amounted to a tremendous gamble on their part. Though more moderate than some of her colleagues, Kelly still made a name for herself as a rightwing firebrand at Fox News. NBC shelled out for a kinder, gentler Kelly, which baffled many within the industry. Why pay her so much to not do what she’s best known for? It’s the journalistic equivalent of signing Tom Brady for eight figures and having him play wide receiver. On top of the confusing attempt at rebranding, the network assumed the risk that left-leaning viewers would reject Kelly as a result of the controversial views she espoused in the past. And indeed, to seems to be what’s taking place. Numbers for Kelly’s second week aren’t in yet, but her ratings declined steadily during her first week on the air. Of course, that could have less to do with the fact that she once argued Santa Claus is white in an unhinged on-air tirade, and more to do with the fact that her show is simply not good. And in a recent episode of Oprah’s Master Class, he gets real about his father, who physically and abused the actor when he was young. “As terrible as he was, and as horrible as he was, he never once left us. We were never hungry. And every time he’d go to work, all week, he’d bring all the money home,” Perry said of Emmitt Perry Sr . “From a child, I had always known that this man despised me,” Perry recalled. “I could not figure it out for the longest [time]. I could not figure out why he hated me so.” “Every action was about his hatred or his disdain for me,” he continued. However , when the Madea fil m director and self- made millionaire found out that Perry wasn’t his biological father , he strangely felt obligated to take care of hi m . “I’m giving him what he gave to me,” Perry explained. “I had shelter; I had food . He has shelter, pretty nice shelter, and any food that he wants to eat.” But Perry’s version of support lacks any real connection or emotion . “What I missed from him, being in a relationship, is also what he’s missing from me now. So he doesn’t have everything. He has what’s easy.” During the interview , Perry didn’t just focus on his past and current trau ma . H e also focused on what makes him happy–his son . Today, the sun is getting eclipsed. But so are your hopes and dreams. If you were hoping to see Dean Unglert star on the next season of The Bachelor , anyway. Especially after hearing that Peter Kraus is unlikely to get the role . Nothing’s for certain just yet, but based upon what Deanie Baby has revealed, he might not qualify to be the leading man. And no, it’s not because he allegedly makes an ass of himself on Bachelor in Paradise . So, it was a little while back when Dean Unglert revealed that he finds love in Paradise in a Glamour interview. “Did I find love in Paradise? Yeah, I’ll be honest with you. I did find love in Paradise . Yeah. I don’t see any need to hide it.” We’ve known for a while that Dean Unglert is on Bachelor in Paradise , well before Dean was sent home after his Hometown Date with Rachel Lindsay. But what we didn’t know until recently was that Dean would find love. We can’t say that it’s surprising — with his endearing personality and baby blue eyes. (Even DeMario Jackson, in his very short time in Paradise, found Dean’s eyes memorable enough to mention in his Instagram tags when he reflected on his time there) But, if Dean found love in Paradise, people have to wonder: what does this mean for his future? What does this mean for The Bachelor ? Right off the bat, Dean Unglert seemed to really hit things off with Kristina Schulman. From what we’ve already seen on Bachelor in Paradise , Dean and Kristina hung out and they opened up about their past hardships. Dean talked about his emotionally distant father and his mother’s death when he was still a teenager. (That’s why he has her name tattooed on his body) Kristina talked about spending eight years growing up in a Russian orphanage before being adopted by a Kentucky couple. That’s sort of par for the course when it comes to trying to find love on a reality television schedule, but they did seem to have a connection. The thing is, though, that lots of people find love in lots of places. There’s a difference between “aww I love you” and “i think I’m in love with you,” both of which are very different from the sort of lifelong bond of love that happens in Disney movies and allegedly in real life sometimes. Dean might find love in Paradise. (In fact, a recent promo shows him confessing that he’s in love with two women there, so that’s … potentially complicated) But that doesn’t mean that he’ll come out the end of the season having forged a lasting relationship that will preclude him from appearing on The Bachelor . Because, you know, a lot of love is fleeting. Dean Unglert is a fan favorite to be the Bachelor , and he was a frontrunner on The Bachelorette . That doesn’t mean that he’s a shoe-in, unfortunately. One factor is that Dean is still in his mid-twenties, which you’d think would be fine, but it’s a little younger than the Bachelor tends to be and might bring about different age dynamics. But we’d still love to see him, or Peter Kraus, in the role. And, of course, we’d love to see Dean find love. If he has to not be the Bachelor, it would be ideal for it to be because someone already won his heart. We hope that, at the very least, Dean Unglert got to have some fun on Bachelor in Paradise .
