Assistant Vice President Of Alabama Cheerleading Squad Wears Racist KKK Shirt A volunteer cheerleading coach says she was fired after she complained about the squad’s VP and his friend wearing blatantly racist KKK and White Pride shirts. WAFF.com reports: It was a normal day at practice for the Boaz youth cheerleaders until the team’s assistant vice president Brian McCracken and his friend Brian McDowell showed up wearing shirts that said “The original boys in the hood” with a picture of a burning cross and a KKK member another that said “White Pride”. “It’s awful,” former volunteer cheerleading coach Kayleigh Tipton said. “I mean, I don’t stand for it, I don’t want my kids around it. No one I know wants their kids around anything like that.” Tipton complained to Commissioner Kenny Jones about the tee shirts. “We ended up taking care of the situation, we informed the parents they are no longer allowed to wear that type of shirt to any NAYF functions,” Jones said. “We have zero tolerance for any kind of discriminatory apparel or anything.” Tipton says the next time she went to practice, Vice President for Boaz Cheer Melynnda McCracken asked her not to come back as a volunteer coach. “I’m just disgusted because I feel like I didn’t do anything wrong besides make a complaint that should have been kept private to begin with,” Tipton said. “I asked why and she could not give me any reason.” Jones said the decision has nothing to do with Tipton’s complaint. “There was some parent concerns of some drama that was going on so we had to go in, evaluate, do our diligence and see what actions were necessary,” Jones said. Brian and Melynnda McCracken have both resigned. The Tipton family says those resignations needed to happen, but the damage has already been done to their children. “It’s hard for a biracial child that is 4 and 5 to understand what racism is,” Kayleigh’s husband, Cody Tipton said. “It just outrages me and a lot of other parents but no one will stand up to it because of the consequences their children will get.” Brian McCracken said the tee shirt was worn as a joke and he doesn’t want his personal decision to reflect badly on the organization. We also reached out to McDowell who reiterated it was a joke. Really white people??? What do YOU think about these practical jokesters wearing these racist shirts????SMH…
