Is Paul Giamatti Playing Ken Jeong’s Crimeboss In The Hangover 2?

Speaking with Metro News, Paul Giamatti let slip a few details about his character in The Hangover 2 , saying that he’s a “bad guy,” connected somehow with Ken Jeong’s Mr. Chow character. I was wondering how they were going to fit in Mr. Chow, the funniest part of the first movie, and making him an underling to an evil Paul Giamatti would certainly work for me. Just so long as it turns out they’re part of a web of intrigue controlled by President Bill Clinton, of course . [ Metro ]

Krauthammer on Clinton Quoting Him: ‘My Career is Done – Maybe NPR Will Take Me’

During his impromptu press conference in the White House briefing room Friday, former President Bill Clinton favorably referred to comments Charles Krauthammer made at the Washington Post earlier in the day. On Fox News's “Hannity” that evening, Krauthammer joked, “When you get praise from President Clinton and you are from my side of the aisle that means that my career is done, I mean, I'm toast. Maybe NPR will take me” (video follows with transcript and commentary): read more

Inconvenient Truth: Discovery Gunman ‘Awakened’ By Gore’s Film

James Lee, the crazed environmentalist that took hostages at Discovery Channel’s Maryland headquarters only to be shot and killed by police Wednesday, was “awakened” by Nobel Laureate Al Gore’s schlockumentary “An Inconvenient Truth.” As readers are likely aware, armed with several bombs, Lee took three hostages at the Silver Springs facility. When negotiations broke down, police stormed the building killing the gunman (see Eyeblast reports here and here ). Before the incident began, Lee posted the following demands at his website savetheplanetprotest.com : The Discovery Channel MUST broadcast to the world their commitment to save the planet and to do the following IMMEDIATELY: 6. Find solutions for Global Warming, Automotive pollution, International Trade, factory pollution, and the whole blasted human economy. Find ways so that people don’t build more housing pollution which destroys the environment to make way for more human filth! Find solutions so that people stop breeding as well as stopping using Oil in order to REVERSE Global warming and the destruction of the planet! This was not the first time Lee protested Discovery. MSNBC.com reported Wednesday evening: Court records show that Lee was arrested Feb. 21, 2008, on the sixth day of a protest at the Discovery building. At the time of his conviction in March 2008, he was identified as being from San Diego. Police were called to the scene when a crowd that had gathered began growing “unruly” as Lee threw thousands of dollars of cash into the air, some of it still in shrink-wrapped packages, police said at the time. (Lee was found not guilty of littering.) Lee said at the time that he experienced an ‘‘awakening” when he watched former Vice President Al Gore’s environmental documentary ‘‘An Inconvenient Truth.” This incident points to another inconvenient truth: despite the absurdity espoused by many liberal media members in the past 19 months that conservative talkers are inciting “right-wing extremists” to acts of violence, there are indeed disturbed individuals on both sides of the aisle that can be provoked by any number of things. As NewsBusters’s Melissa Clouthier noted Thursday: The left…has spent the last year and half trying to pin every act of terrorism and evil on the vast, white, racist, homophobic, bigoted Tea Party. They do it without shame. They impugn, malign and besmirch repeatedly. Best Tea Party sign? “You’ll say I’m racist anyway.” Lefties generalize from anecdotes unless the crazy person is one of their own (and yes, that was just a generalization). Then, of course, the crazy is an “outlier”. He’s a depraved individual. And often, there are compelling reasons for the outburst. Those compelling reasons demand more examination. And upon examination, well, it turns out the context is complex and nuanced. However, when their own crazy gets caught, they want the more reasonable and reasoned and logical response of not smearing a whole group of people (say, all people who watched and liked the Al Gore movie An Inconvenient Truth).  Indeed. To suggest that this incident was caused by Gore’s film is akin to the inanities put forth by the left about those on the right.  As AOLNews opinion editor John Merline wrote Wednesday evening: It’s an unfortunate reflex these days among pundits and politicians trying to score cheap political points against their ideological opponents. Just find the thinnest thread to tie them to the actions of some deranged nut job who happens to espouse somewhat similar views. See how dangerous and extremist their positions are? So, liberal talk show host Keith Olbermann once blamed competing talk show host Bill O’Reilly for the murder of abortion doctor George Tiller. Conservatives once tried to draw parallels between the Unabomber and Gore. President Bill Clinton attempted to connect the horrible Oklahoma City bombing to the rhetoric coming from right-wing talk shows. It’s all bad logic of the reductio ad absurdum variety. And we’d all be better off if everyone took this opportunity to forever swear off this pathetic rhetorical device. Yes we would, John, but if this man was a Fox News-watching Tea Party member whose demands were that the Discovery Channel stop showing programs blaming carbon dioxide for global warming, you can bet that every so-called news outlet in America would be proudly making this connection regardless of it representing bad logic of the reductio ad absurdum variety. As such, calls for sanity in the coverage of these horrible incidents are noble, but such good intentions will be completely forgotten the next time something happens that can be blamed on a conservative regardless of how absurd the nexus. Sadly, that’s just the way the liberal media work. Readers are encouraged to review Brent Baker’s ” Miracle on West 57th: CBS Ties Lee to Gore and Quotes Assessment of Bush as ‘Intelligent.’ ”

Clinton Denies WH Claim That He Intervened in U.S. Senate Race in Pennsylvania

Reigniting a political controversy, former President Bill Clinton this week contradicted the Obama White House, telling a Pennsylvania TV station that he never encouraged U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak to drop out of Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate race – as the White House claimed in May.   On Tuesday, Aug. 10, as Clinton campaigned for Sestak in Scranton, Pa., a reporter with the NBC affiliate in Wilkes-Barre asked Clinton why he was in Pennsylvania campaigning for Sestak if he had once tried to get him to drop out of the Senate race. “I never tried to get him out of the race,” Clinton  replied . “I’ve never even been accused of that,” he added in response to a follow-up question.   Clinton’s denial on Tuesday represents a third version of events, said Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), the ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which has been looking into the matter.    “You know the saying there’s three sides to every story — well, now we have it,” Issa said.    In the first version of events, Sestak repeated for months that the White House had offered him an administration job in exchange for dropping his Democratic primary challenge to Sen. Arlen Specter. Specter said such an offer would legally constitute a bribe.    In version two, the White House — after months of refusing to answer questions about what happened — issued a memo in May saying the White House had asked Bill Clinton to talk to Sestak about serving on an unpaid advisory panel while continuing to serve in the House. The memo, written by White House Counsel Robert Bauer, referred to discussions in “June and July of 2009” and said that nothing improper had happened.   Version three came with Clinton’s denial on Tuesday.   “Admiral Sestak has repeatedly said he was offered a ‘job’ in an effort to obtain his withdrawal from the Senate primary,” Issa said on Thursday. “The White House has said ‘efforts were made in June and July’ in said job as well as the admission that they ‘enlisted’ former President Clinton to make the overture. President Clinton says he ‘never tried to get Sestak out of the race.’ Who’s telling the truth?”   As CNSNews.com has  reported , White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs would not say what position Sestak was offered.    After Bauer’s memo was issued in May, Sestak said he believed he was offered a spot on the president’s intelligence advisory board. Regarding his conversation with former President Bill Clinton, Sestak told reporters, “I heard presidential board and I think it was intel.”    Bauer’s one-and-a-half memo explained that former President Bill Clinton, acting on behalf of the Obama administration, had offered Sestak an unpaid role on a presidential advisory board.    According to the Bauer memo, “efforts (plural) were made in June and July of 2009 to determine whether Congressman Sestak would be interested in service on a presidential or other Senior Executive Branch Advisory Board, which would avoid a divisive Senate primary, allow him to retain his seat in the House, and provide him with an opportunity for additional service to the public in a high-level advisory capacity.”   However, the memo mentions only one conversation between Clinton and Sestak.    The Bauer memo said that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel recruited Bill Clinton to offer Sestak an unpaid position on a presidential advisory board while remaining a U.S. congressman.    But as a House member, Sestak could not serve on an executive branch board. As the White House Web site  notes , the president’s intelligence advisory board “consists of not more than 16 members appointed by the President from among individuals  who are not employed by the Federal Government .”   (emphasis added)   Sestak faces Republican Pat Toomey, a former congressman, in November. Tax Cut All-Star — CNBC’s Trish Regan: Calls It ‘Inherently Un-American’ to Penalize Prosperity

Throughout the last half-century, time and time again, a means to stimulate an ailing economy has occurred through tax cuts. Former Presidents John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush have proven economic relief is most effective through tax cuts – not government spending.  Still that method has detractors. However, CNBC “The Call” co-anchor Trish Regan, with a panel decidedly against her, made the case for tax cuts. On NBC’s July 11 broadcast of “The Chris Matthews Show,” Regan explained how tax cuts encourage businesses to help reverse the trend of high unemployment and that businessmen are worried about the end of the Bush tax cuts. “They absolutely are,” Regan said. “They’re concerned about it and this is one of the issues when it comes to hiring. They’re hesitant right now when it comes to bringing more employees on board because one, you’re not seeing final demand because consumers aren’t spending that much, and number two, they’re dealing with the tax consequences of having more people in their companies. So that’s definitely an issue.” Matthews followed up Regan’s response with a question to Chicago Tribune columnist Clarence Page. He asked would if “Democratic progressives” would be open to the idea of tax cuts, if it meant rescuing the economy and solidifying President Barack Obama’s chances for re-election in 2012. “Well, only if it hit those at the bottom,” Page said. “You should expand the earned income tax credit or give some kind of a job incentive. But I disagree that he ought to call off, well continue the Bush tax cut. That’s not going to win Democrat support.” However, as the Congressional Budget Office shows , upper-income taxpayers pay more than their fair share of taxes, over six times as much in terms of a percentage of household income overall. And Regan as explained, penalization through taxation is “inherently un-American” because it discourages aspiration. “Isn’t there something kind of inherently un-American about the more money you make, the more money we’re going to take from you?” Regan said. “I mean, even if you’re not making $250,000 a year as a couple, you may aspire to make that. The government’s going to take more.” Probably at this point, Matthews may have been wondering how someone with these views wound up booked on his shows. Regan’s remarks drew laughter and protest from “The Chris Matthews Show” panel. Nonetheless, Time magazine’s Joe Klein offered up his pro-taxation view – suggesting all conservatives want to abolish the income tax, which he deemed as “radical.” “It’s called the progressive income tax for a reason,” Klein said. “Now conservatives want to abolish the income tax. That is so radical.” But Regan fought back, explaining taxation discourages productivity which is essential to economic growth. “What I’m saying is, you don’t want to necessarily discourage productivity,” she said. “You want the country to grow and there are ways to do that through tax cuts whether it be through individuals or to businesses.” Klein attempted to use former President Bill Clinton’s 1993 tax hike as evidence higher taxes don’t necessarily discourage economic growth. And although there is significant evidence to dispute Klein’s point , Regan explained the economy was in a different place then as it is now. “He did it at a time when the economy was growing,” she said. “We’re in a very different situation right now.” Take away: Good thing Regan is anchoring a CNBC show and Klein is writing a column for a magazine with a dwindling circulation.

What are the Bilderberg Group Really Doing in Spain?

Security is so tight at the annual cabal of the world's elite that conspiracy theories about what is discussed – and who's invited – are rife. If the conspiracy theorists are on to something, they could be plotting the invasion of Iran, planning the funeral of the Euro or scheming to wipe out French poodles in pink sweaters at this very minute. Or perhaps the world's financial and political leaders are simply schmoozing about their golf game as they enjoy a “chocolate massage” followed by the “honey body scrub” and the “spectacular oxygen Echo2 facial” at the Dolce Hotel's spa in Sitges. It is also possible that the world's executives, media moguls, and financial gurus came to the elegant seaside town near Barcelona to study the booming gay tourist market there (although they missed the wild Carnival celebration by a few months) and to sneak a preview of next year's international horror film festival. But ordinary citizens can only guess at the goings-on at the annual meeting of the secretive Bilderberg Group, a media-barred pow-wow of the global elite that in the past has reportedly attracted former US President Bill Clinton, Tony Blair and David Cameron, and US treasury secretary Timothy Geithner. Even the late Enoch Powell once attended. The heavyweight weekend retreat kicked off yesterday with hordes of police security and a gag order for employees at the luxury Dolce, whose aptly-named presidential suites overlook the Mediterranean. None of the illustrious guests posed for photos or spouted prepared statements for the media. Instead, activists, journalists and bloggers attempted to stake out positions in the surrounding hills to catch glimpses of this year's participants, guerrilla-warrior style. more at link…We are definitely on to something; check out my page: www.current.com/groups/conspiracy-films added by: rodstradamus
